That... looks really bad. It's like they took the cel-shaded look of VIII and removed all the charm. It looks sterile and amateurish (!), and that's something I never though I'd say about a DQ game. I'd rather they kept the original graphics to be honest.

I never liked the Dragon Quest 7 character designs and they haven't changed in the remake. How disappointing. They look like disgruntled midgets. I'll still be getting the game. I still have to play through the original, too.

The map excites me more than the actual game screen. Looks like the ds games which aren't a bad thing, if it was a ds game. The ship screenshot is very bad. The inside of houses screenshots look pretty good though.

Characters are definitely wearing different shields/weapons in some of the battle screens. I think I see Maribel wearing a hat in one of them, but it's probably too much to hope for new costumes on class change.

Never played DQ VII so this a great opportunity to with a new coat of paint. Unfortunate they couldn't match DQ VIII's graphics because I know the 3DS is more than capable.

DQVII is a freaking huge game. That they're remaking it alone is already something.

Yep.

100 hours into the PS1 version and I was only halfway finished completing the game when I checked a guide. Once I realized I was only halfway through the game, I quit.

I take a long time with my JRPGs, but DQVII was ABSURDLY long. I'd imagine they'll cut some content with the remake considering it's full 3D.

as long as the rest is fine no problem for me
also looking forward the fps (dq9 was a little slow though I still put around 500h in it), please 60fps :)
and the damn text speed in the localization ^^

waiting for a video to see it in motion, sometimes it is better in motion :)

Well, it's not like they're creating a whole new game here from the ground up for 3DS, my guess is they are simply doing what they have been doing for the DS remakes except on 3DS you get a higher resolution and more graphics memory to work with obviously. Plus as has been mentioned, the game is HUGE so i am glad we're even getting it, even if it's just a "touched up" version type remake in this case!

No it isn't; that's exactly what happens!

after somme looking at the pictures, it seems ALL NPC are in 3d, not just the important characters.
ok the 3DS is powerfull enough to handle everything, but considering DQ9 still had some 2d sprites, it is a nice touch

I do agree that the camera seems a bit too close in some cases. Nevertheless, pretty excited... and will level up to full excitement if/when it gets announced for US release.

That's ok in my book, if it means they cut some of the worse content i am all for a more streamlined experience, especially when the game is AS long as some people here are mentioning. Who has time for such a humungous RPG nowadays?

not so much time, but on 3dS, it is easier to put the game on pause :)
or to play in bed :)

Looks pretty good to me! Just being able to play this again, this time on a handheld makes it worth it for me. The wait for February will be too long. Makes me wish I hadn't forgotten both my Japanese and English copies of the PS game back in the states when I moved back to Japan or I would be playing it now to get ready for this version.

Well let's hope not. I don't mind streamlining so everything moves that bit quicker (like finding shards, which seems to be addressed with that new fairy thingy), but the scenario design in DQVII represents the peak for the series and it wouldn't want that changed.

For some reason the environments look sort of 'off' to me, but I can't put my finger on why. I love the maps on the lower screen, though. Very pretty. Characters are okay.

I mostly just want to play through Dragon Quest VII for the first time and this would be a great way to do so.

lol @ people expecting a DQVIII level visual remake. That game would have cost over 20 million to make. DQ7 is around 4x the size of DQ8. It's a miracle that they are making any kind of visual remake of this game.

EDIT: Now people are complaining about the art direction? At least have some familiarity with the original game before making yourself look ignorant.

Just means that you shouldn't plan on playing any other game while playing DQVII.

Considering how large this game is and what Terry's Wonderland 3D looked like, the screens do look much nicer than expected. I'm interested to see what kind of changes they brought to the table. The little vignettes are what breathe life and character into the Dragon Quest worlds, and DQ7 is the entry that delivers the most in that respect.

It's a little weird to see so many constantly compare every Dragon Quest game to 8. Was that a lot of people's introduction in the series?
