Tsuritama 8:
This show really excels at moving between comedy and high stakes drama with a very deft hand. I absolutely loved this episode from start to finish. There was some great character drama throughout, between the scenes with Yuki and Natsuki, and the exploration of the family issues both of them had, both scenes involving Keito, which each took the form of some one-sided but rather revealing conversations, and the continued development of Akira as he explored what the right course of action was. But we also got some amazing comedy (especially...DUCK) and some very heart warming scenes of the characters friendship. It's great when a show can just make you break out into a pure grin and feel happy.

I also thought there were some great facial expressions throughout the episode, and they really enhanced all of the scenes. I almost feel like even attempting to write about this episode is doing it a disservice, because it was just that great.

As most people following the show will have guessed this sees a tonal return to something more like the first four episodes. Here, though, the fact that we know "what's wrong" provides the creeping dread; it casts even scenes that seem innocuous in a different light.

While the quality of the drawing suffers at times (perhaps a consequence of so many people working on this episode), it's definitely more of a return to form in terms of storyboarding; each scene is effective and interesting, and the pacing is much improved after eps 5 and 6 in particular. Furthermore, despite the lower quality of the drawing, I found the nuance of the actual animation to be more impressive than I was expecting in an episode that is far more about character than anything else.

As for anything salacious, as with the rest of the series it's handled with exquisite taste but I shouldn't think the slash hounds among you will have much to be upset about.

If I say DAT NTR under cover of spoilers, does it mean that no-one else is allowed to post it? Because I'd really rather hope people were more interested in talking about the fact that Shun is clearly suffering from Rahman-Crogius Syndrome and what that means for the thing in the egg, or the implications of the fact that the kids don't remember exactly what happened on Summer Camp, or...

By the way, over in his "ask me anything" thread that he set up on a whim, one of the questions posed to EviLore was "What are some of your favorite anime works?" and he responded thusly:
Jojo's Bizarre Adventure (OVAs), Rurouni Kenshin Tsuiokuhen OVA, Macross Plus, Cowboy Bebop, Samurai Champloo, Baccano!, Hunter x Hunter (original TV series), Mushishi, Kino no Tabi, Planetes, Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex, Seirei no Moribito, Full Metal Panic: Fumoffu!, Full Metal Panic: The Second Raid, Berserk, Ghost in the Shell (film), Jin-Roh, Kiki's Delivery Service, Sword of the Stranger, Redline

I guess Shun will be gone soon? in some horrific way hopefully :D preview for next week seems interesting too
. This episode did enough for me to get excited about the plot again after a few very weak ones.

This show has become more underwhelming by the week, but the hilarious ending (
I'm sure she loved her...to death!
) made this one
almost
worthwhile.

Guys, I have it on VERY, VERY good authority (read: I've seen the fucking pics!) that episode 8 of From the New World is :DTL and :SDBurton to the MAX! I'm not talking about subtle stuff here. Seriously. I am HYPED now. Holy shit!!!

This seems a good development. Finally some PLOT.

psgels wrote his Winter preview, if anyone cares.
Not sure if some shows are missing, actually, is everything that should be broadcasted announced?

Not a fan of his blogging, but I prefer these kind of write-ups to charts.

4 shows. Time for backlog catchup.

You mean until this happened:

You'll just have to learn to watch first and read later. You'll never change people's posting habits.

Well at least he got one of the better ending.

Though it is quite funny (or tragic) that the PBC team can pump out all these great looking EDs and some studios fail at just making one.

Oh and today I finally fell down the rabbit hole.

Nice! Space Pirates is pretty fun, but it starts off sloooooooooooow.

Finally, Florida gets their chance for the Madoka Magica movies. A screening has been added for December 15 at the Clearwater Cinema Cafe in Clearwater/Tampa Bay.

Never gonna arrive here until dead last :(

He actually does have good taste. We could get along.
Maybe.

Wanna hear a good joke? Waste your time helping me! LOL!
Anyone catch Robotics;Notes ep 5? This is the stuff that made Steins;Gate so cool IMO, the "grounded" conspiracy theories.

Naruto Shippuden 289

Wow Kakashi and Guy were pretty pointless this episode, however I guess more Omoi the better, and lots of shaky cam action.

I hope this "Power" or whatever subarc or something (looks separate from the war) is actually good, everyone was finally in position.

dont do this to me Tomat

Do what? I put grounded in quotes because it's all still crazy as hell, but I like that they use real world organizations and stuff in their story. Steins;Gate got me to read about a bunch of physics stuff (time dilation and other stuff about black holes) because I thought some of the shit sounded crazy. I like that they do that :D

I really don't get why they keep makings these fillers all the time in Naruto. Isn't manga like billion chapters ahead of Anime?

Haven't seen it yet, but already know today is going to be wonderful.

Gonna be wonderfuuuuuuuuul!

Them thunder thighs man. Dangerously delicious.

Haha! At that moment I was like
"It'd be funny if someone got her from behind" and then that happened and I was like "I wasn't serious! Holy hell!"
Lol I know!
I don't mean to sound like some kind of tyrant, but I can't agree with on this point. I actively dislike the music in Magi. To clarify further, I find that the vast majority of the music is bad-to-forgettable. Even worse than that, however, is the overall sound direction or lack thereof. I can think of very few scenes were the music matched the scene I was watching and probably zero examples of when it actually enhanced the visuals.

Oh that's fine. I don't mean it contextually and implementation-wise per-say, but I mean just on an orchestrational level. Like, I would buy a CD with it just to check out how the composer made use of the orchestra and adhered to the setting instrumentationally. I'm a composer though, so this is just how my brain works, heh. In this OST they make use of lots of non-traditional instruments in an orchestral setting, so i'm just interested in how the composer implemented these variables in a traditional setting.

I tend to focus on music individually and isolated as just the notes on a page first before applying context to it (whether it be animation, visuals, story, voice-work, etc.), which in the perspective you're looking at it from, I kinda agree with you a little.

I also don't judge music on memorability, but rather the intricacies and process of it, but I am far removed from a causal/common listener of music who cares about things like memorability as a kinda of selling point. I find the use of orchestra and exotic instruments in a blend as really stand out features of the pieces that really make it special. I hope I don't come across as sounding elitist or anything, but my opinions and perspectives are just really different because of my field of work.

Psycho Pass 6

The case was awkward though probably more for its location and the nature of the antagonist being quite close with the character in question.

I loved the scene with Kagari cooking and stuff then getting drunk and etc, need more of him. And the continuing highlight, that which keeps me interested the Shogo stuff with Shinya trying to identify him. I wonder of Shogo knows him and is just toying with him or something. Really do want more of the past revealed.

Psycho-Pass - 06

Not bad. The art was all over the place, and I generally feel as if the execution of this show isn't as good as it should be most of the time, but I liked how they're trying to tie everything together in an overarching plot. There's still a lot of potential in this show.

We should get rewarded one of those stars for completing these episodes or something. Romance being included is just plain awkward and unwanted, enemy type is pretty genre standard and I would have liked to see someone unique or something
Bland Bulky Rough Mercenary type with a typical attitude :(
, and well Himiko is continually proving to be utterly worthless and in the way even Taira-san too.

Anyway I did like how the episode played out though. Action wise not as good as the one with the Kousuke Kira but probably second best potentially. Sakamotos pretty athletic to be a top mmo player...

Soundtrack is still good.

Hidamari Sketch x Honeycomb 7

Switched pictures in the OP?

Nice! I always like when this happens between different seasons.

Hey! The audience gets another taste of dedicated Yuno in her craft again. I guess flashbacks of
incomplete assignments
can do that to even the most hardened artists. On the art, there were a couple of really awkward faces in this episode that stuck out. Thankfully, Sugino Miyako and some of the
scenes balanced the episode favorably.

The previous episode was much stronger, but this was still quite "Hidamari".

Is that not what a harem show is?
After a season and a half they finally show what the hell Matsu's Pokemon Ability is. Apparently she's Porygon, except without the seizure inducing flashes.
Just a big info dump. Something about they were eggs 2 years ago or something. I'm sure they're all just making this up as they go along. Hell even the villain, or what I assume is the villain, seems to be making up rules on the spot.
I found it funny how they explained why the original Disciplinary Squad isn't around anymore.

It was on the screen for like less than a seconds, but I got it! Yay... yeah no one cares.

KaKaka. Nice. Looking back and some of the other posts, I somehow missed a few of the other random references. Back to back good episodes, guess the writer knows exactly what I like in Medaka Box, Zenkichi's still the best, but Akune the Destroyer was fun too.

Why Kumagawa have no voice role and the story saved for another day? The brief glance made him look compelling especially if he did give Medaka quite a challenge
