UK game retailers discuss phenomenal Wii U preorders

You guys need to consider the fact that Nintendo may be buying these themselves and selling it on ebay. They get it to count as a sale and then sell the same console right back to unsuspecting customers who like mindless drones were excited by sold out signs and news reports.

They buy it back to inflate preorder sales figures. And then turn around and sell it again for the same price, loosing money in the process after eBay takes its cut.

Not buying it.

If anything, this thread has really demonstrated the creativity of those who don't want to believe the Wii U is going to be another sales monster :p

Exactly:

And for extra measure:

Whether it's going to be a 'sales monster' is up for debate... mostly unnecessary, mindless debate, but debate nonetheless... but yes, I'm generally surprised at some of the mental gymnastics GAF members will undertake in order to circumvent reality.

LOL, Some people totally disregard any positive news or theories and just focus on the negative because that is what they want to believe anyway. Even if more devs came out and publicly stated that the WiiU is more powerful and the games will look better some people will just say it's PR LOL. Indeed. This is NeoGaf.

I wonder if Nintendo will create an artificial scarcity with the wii u to drive more preorders...

Okay, I'm sorry...I really am, but this has to be called out.

It makes no sense WHATSOEVER for Nintendo to not make as many units as demand allows. None.

This fallacy has to stop, it really does. Any units that Nintendo cannot produce is money lost. They're not going to purposefully slow production if demand is there....that's lost sales.

I'll tell you what, when you get a group of people who want to believe something, and they keep focusing on the negative/or positive side of something - continuing to bounce stories off each other... eventually that group becomes very removed from reality.

That's what's happened with a large portion of the gaming community (gaming media, fans ect) and the Wii U. To the point where people are legitimately surprised and in denial that a very viable successor to a 100 million selling console is selling out preorders?

It's collective insanity I tell you.

It doesn't matter how many times the best selling technology is never the most high-end at the time of release... some people cannot and will not comprehend, unless it's the most highest tech possible, it cannot be popular... cannot.

It's like the last 6 years and what will wind up being well over 100 million Wii sales WW never happened.

YEAH BUT THE GRAPHICS NOBODY WANTS IT

A Nintendo console will perform very well this holiday season as every other one. What a surprise really.

This thread is full of stupid as almost all Wii U threads. I can't wait for the release when we can finally discuss games.

None of what I can see are system sellers.
Sure, who cares about Mario and Nintendo's mini-game compilations.

To me, aye. I'm not going to assume Mario isn't the reason why people are pre-ordering when the next game doesn't seem to expand upon the Wii version any.

It may not be super original, but to say I wouldn't say it isn't expanding on the previous one either. If NSMBW was Super Mario Bros 3, NSMBU is Super Mario World.

The Basic Wii U may end up the best selling SKU in the end, but Nintendo really should have had nothing but Deluxe units at launch. That's the product that anyone dedicated enough to preorder wants.

The Wii U version seems to be the exact same game with sharper visuals, not to mention that game was bundled for Wii consoles sold recently.

Yeah the public clearly had enough of those similarish Mario sequels back in the 80's. What's Nintendo thinking!?

Exact same game? If thats what you think then I know you havent played NSMB Wii or even seen screens of NSMBU.

We're just going to have to agree to disagree and see how it all turns out then. :)

One more thing though: how big, relatively speaking, would you say the gap between the 360 and the Wii U is?

PS2: 32MB RAM | XBOX: 64 MB RAM

XB360: 512MB RAM | WIIU: 2 GB RAM

Do the math! ;)

I have to wonder what the hell is wrong with people to preorder 5 year old tech. If that's what they want then why not buy a PS3 or 360. And if that's not what they want then what the hell is it that they do?
The games that PS3 and 360 don't have. You may be surprised, but the PS3 and 360 completely gun for a specific, non-encompassing market. They do branch out with titles like Little Big Planet and Kinect Star Wars, but they are by no means the focus.

NSMB Wii was in the 20 millions LONG before the bundle appeared. Keep in mind the NSMBWii bundle only appeared last winter, 2 years after release, and the Wii has been on its deathbed sales wise in North America for some time now.

Man, if this is the demand for a console with a less than stellar launch line-up then nextbox and ps4 will be insane.

anybody else getting pre-release PSP vibes from these posts?
we joke about Pachter, but it's this segment of GAF you should always bet against, i think

People said that when comparing the Wii game to the DS game, too.

Let's not be petty and downplay the sales potential of a new 2D Mario.

So what are the launch line ups for the 720 and the PS4 anyway?

Oh wait, nobody knows and it's just wishful thinking on their part.

Neat.

Reading through some of this... i am reminded of part of a lecture i was a fan of a few years back, part of which was about the power of the human mind. The lecturer was talking about human intuition as being a great thing, but the mind itself is a nightmare of a tool. He made some points about the human mind and how it works stating that "it would rather have its host dead, than be wrong". He then went on to cite examples of people who dont want to go to the doctor for a checkup, even though they know for a fact something might be wrong. So there you have it, the person knows they might have a life threatening illness, and knows that early detection can save them, but still wont go to the doctor because the mind refuses to believe its happening. You are not your mind, the mind is a tool designed by nature to govern thought and action at all costs, even to your own demise. I think its important to remember this when reading through some of these posts where people are refusing to even consider that the Wii U might be onto something. It also makes dealing with those who refuse to give an inch of positivity easier because, as you can see, the mind would rather have its owner dead than be wrong.

Hey guys. Just as a heads up to those sitting on the fence as regards to pre-ordering a Wii U in the UK, I just now placed an order with Shopto for a premium model (after much indecision). 5 minutes after placing the order they raised a ticket on my account to let me know that they have secured enough stock so that I'll get my order on launch day. I was expecting to have to wait a few weeks, if not until after xmas, to get hold of one.

Long and short: Shopto have guaranteed Wii U premium consoles available for day 1 even at this late point, so if you want to get an order in, I'd guess this is the place to go.

As an aside, it seems they'll start processing preorders on the 23rd (Friday) according to their ticket.

the biggest supermarket in the country is still guaranteeing launch day delivery.

i don't think people in the uk should be sweating it out, it'll be easy enough to get ahold of.

Christ the bump in this thread made me fear Pramath is back.
Here in SA, it seems to be going ok. Not really seen any place claiming it's sold out. But the ZombiU premium pack seems to go in and out of stock constantly.

Unbelievable

Well it has some new power ups, the levels are new. But I think it's a fair point for the casual observer.
NSMB and NSMB Wii had a big 'remember 2d mario?,' thing attached to them, with Wii introducing 4 player co-op. The game will sell but as with NSMB 2 I don't think it'll do quite the same again.

Just got this too.

Hype + 1

Hey there's still 2 weeks til release

Sainsburys sold out
Amazon won't guarantee the black models day 1
Hmv sold out of white

Its getting tighter

Some supermarkets and the game specialists will have an allocation that they haven't put up for pre order. If you want one badly enough on the day and get in early you'll be alright IMO. It might help to go to any midnight openings that happen, mind.

I want a basic. I pre-ordered a basic. I enquired in the shop whether they were doing a midnight launch because I am dedicated enough to queue for a midnight launch to acquire my basic.

Apparently, nobody else is dedicated enough, so 9am Friday morning it is.
