Guys..are you finding the OS in general to be slow? I mean..something as simple as selecting system settings takes 10 seconds to come up. WTF is going on? And I've already downloaded the update.
It is slow... Try and exit out of any app.. Thats 20 seconds right there.

My son is watching sponge bob on dvd. It was nice to fire up New Super Mario Bros U from the gamepad and play it without having to deal with the TV.

Very nice.

So you will be able to get a console? I had no trouble picking up 2 deluxe preorders at the Almaden Walmart near Oakridge. I have another deluxe preorder at the Best Buy that I haven't picked up if any friends wanted one but couldn't get it.

Ya, I was able to get my preorder at Best Buy at Curtner. Seems like a lot of people are still hunting for a system. I still have my other preorder at GameStop that I'm holding on for any friends who might want it. Preorders seemed to work out like a charm, but man there's not much extra stock even at the opening of stores.

Guys, I need some help.

I finally got done charging the controller and everything is hooked up but I can't seem to synch the controller with the system.

On the TV, it has a white screen with only the Wii U logo and I hit synch on the controller and it has the screen where you match the shapes but nothing is on the TV but what I just said.

It says hit the synch button on the console then but nothing happens.

It seems I can turn off the controller but not the console as well.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Are you hitting the recessed synch button on the back of the controller?

*edit* missed that in your post. I guess you are.

I've got a few burning questions for you new Wii U owners. Sorry if any of them have already been answered; this thread is massive.

1. Can just a certain partition on an external drive be used, or does the entirety have to be formatted?
2. Can Wii homebrew be used in Wii mode? Is homebrew kept from a Wii system transfer?
3. Can users sign into an existing account on another system and download content linked to that account on that system, keep any stats tracked on that account, etc.?
4. Can non-motionplus equipped Wii Remotes be used in any Wii U games, especially New Super Mario Bros. U and Nintendoland?
5. What, if anything, does the Gamepad display when it loses signal from the console?
6. Is there any sort of cross-game chat solution?
7. Can system updates be downloaded in the background?
8. What are download speeds for eShop games like? Are they throttled at a certain speed?
9. Is there a screenshot function?
10. Can the Gamepad be turned off independently of the console?

Thanks in advance.

Yeah, I hit that and it brings up the screen on the controller where you are supposed to hit the shapes in order that you see on the TV but there is just the Wii U logo on the TV and nothing else.

It says on the controller that if there is nothing on the TV that you hit synch on the console but I do and nothing happens.

Same thing happened to me. I had to pull the power. Turn on the console first and hit console sync button first. Worked for me.

I hit the console synch button and it brought up the shapes, then I hit the synch on the pad next and it asked for the code. Not sure why yours wouldnt be producing the code.

Did anyone ever figure out the club nintendo account linking?

I did it when I connected to the eshop for the first time.

Got my Wii U. Walked into Walmart and picked it up without a problem. I peaked in the back and there were a ton still there that hadn't been picked up. Just finished downloading the update (somewhere around an hour) and now to mess with stuff.

Are Wii Points Cards not the same thing as the WiiU's shop points? Bought a card this morning because the people at GameStop said it would work with WiiU, but it's not recognizing the code which is making me think it doesn't... -_-

(Don't have a 3DS or anything, so not sure what the store has been called since the Wii--spare me the "You're an idiot" posts too please :| )

I just got home with my console and ended up buying Xenoblade Chronicles along with NSMBU. This along with the VC games I never finished should keep me busy for a while.

So as a cheap means of using online voice chat in Black Ops 2 say, could I use something like the iPhone headphones with in-line mic, or is something proprietary required?

I...I don't have to buy "points" in bulk...

I don't have to buy points in bulk.

You can just directly purchase software for their exact amount using a credit card (which can also be saved to system). AH! So happy. So far, Wii U eShop >>>> 360 Marketplace (but I really hated the 360 marketplace so I might be an outlier here).

Been that way since the 3DS bro. It's awesome

While trying to set up my wii u, it automatically shut down and the red light by the power button started to blink. I tried it again and again and again...it stays on about 5 minutes through the set up and turns off again with the red blinking light. I have the red light of death :(

I'll probably have to wait for the next shipment to get another one. I am very unhappy.

They need to release an optimization patch to speed up these menus like.... ASAP. This is kinda unacceptable for a OS that's taking up 1gb.

for amusement's sake, i think i'll walk into some stores and see if i can get one day one.

right now it sounds like the worst thing nintendo's done in years:

-low cpu, slow ram
-games in 2013? maybe?
-lack of 2013/future titles and console innards make it hard for current ports, let alone games from more powerful consoles
-every showing of the console has been absolutely terrible
-launch titles that should be here are pushed back- notably pikmin 3 which has a big question mark above its head. tells me they made it a gap-filler in their release schedule
-online is weird
-launch games are polarizing or not very good... aside from nsmbu.

and it's weird because they were originally planning for a mid-2012 launch. you'd think with an extra six months, they could have gotten their shit together or future-proofed the system a little more.

if i do end up impulse-buying, it'll probably be so i could play the last story and other wii games i never got to finish (and didn't want to risk playing on my dying wii).

If you're buying from the eshop, I recommend going into settings (in the store, not the Wii U) and setting your zip code to somewhere in Alaska. Wave goodbye to tax.

When are MS and Sony going to finally reach 2012, mirite? :-D

After becoming increasingly pissed off every time I bought something on XBL, this is probably my biggest and most welcome surprise of the system. It's the little things ;_;

Seriously..I'm so frustrated right now. I never in a million years expected this from Ninty. :(

Damn, Miiverse was up and running so smooth for like 3 minutes and it died.

The 3DS menus feel like it takes more time than it should to go to the Settings too.
