They had a pile of Wii Us basic and deluxe and I just saw one lady getting a deluxe version, thats all

Wii U isn't the recipient of a highly-limited and highly-advertised Black Friday sale price like the other two platforms are. Once the extreme sales stop, a more normal sense of demand will be easier to gauge. Ninty should have launched two or three weeks ago, ahead of the big competing console sales prices and bundles, instead of the biggest shopping sales week of the year. I mean, it's possible that the lower-priced Vita bundles saw a greater representation at the store level during BF week. Doesn't necessarily mean that Wii U is bombing, but it's definitely not the best deal on gaming consoles right now.

I can think of a couple things.

1) Nintendo has shipped a lot more Wii U consoles than Wii

2) Wii U demand is not the same as Wii

3) Economy

4) People think the Wii U is a controller add on

5) It's the basic set available that no one wants

6) People who shop on Black Friday want those $199 PS3/360 specials

I did some shopping yesterday and found Wii U in stock at Best Buy and Target. But only a couple units and they were the basic model.

Early adopters are the core commnity, ofcourse they all want black.

Finally got to play NintendoLand with a few people last night and it was really great. These people were lukewarm about playing but after we started they did not want to stop. Even the Train Tour where you are handing the gamepad around and watching a lot of the time seemed to work. For some reason they really wanted me to run around and past people to see what they were posting about the games (or to write stuff after each round we played under my name).

This also revealed how terrible the gamepad battery life is. I think it was 2 1/2 hours and it was blinking red and in need of a charge.

So according to Gerstmann it's still easy to find Wii U in stock even after Black Friday. What IS going on?

I strolled into my local Toys R Us at 6pm on black friday and picked up a deluxe edition, no line or anything. They had like 4-5 more behind the glass. My wife thought it was an add on for the Wii.

I will admit that I bought a white one, because it was all I could find, but I still think it was the better value for most people. The additional flash is a joke because it will only postpone the need for a hard drive and I got a copy of Nintendoland off ebay for 35 bucks which I just bought on a whim while IMing my wife.

Makes me question the Basic unit more and more.

The basic should have come with 16gb of storage, 8gb just doesn't cut it considering the size of the OS. It would seem the basic will be quite the loser in this little battle or it should have been priced at $249.

Nintendo is actually prepared this time?

Doubt it. There's no hype for it yet. It's also hard to compete with the holiday bundles being offered by Sony and Microsoft. 199 for a 360 with Skyrim, Forza, and BLOPS2 is far more attractive than Wii U +Nintendoland for 350. Ditto the 199 dollar PS3 bundle that comes with every inFamous game and Uncharted 1 and 2. It also doesnt help that Nintendo and its third parties are stupidly asking for full price on games that are 50-80 percent cheaper on other consoles...and the games run better on the other consoles. It's just dumb.

I'm pretty excited to see some shipped and/or sold numbers soon to see what is going on.

My guess: half a million shipped/sold in November for Wii U. 1.5 million sold for 360. 1.1 million sold for PS3.

Are the console flippers getting hit in the pocket due to its retail availability? Took a quick look on eBay and most are barely being bid above MSRP if not below.

Just got this email from Tesco regarding my Wii U pre order. Looks like they may be shortages in the UK.

Dear Customer,

Thank you for your recent pre-order for a Wii U console.

You may have seen that Nintendo have confirmed a market wide shortage of stock for this product at launch.

However we are pleased to confirm that we will be able to deliver your order on the release date of 30th November.

We hope you enjoy your new Console!

Kind regards

considering the size remaining after formatting/OS update, they shouldn't have advertised any storage at all. Just enough for saves and the occasional patch

I was sort of surprised to see yesterday at my local Walmart that they had a bunch of basic (I could see at least 6 or 7) Wii U sets on sale behind the glass.

My local EB Games and Future Shop were both totally sold out of Wii U units though.

This makes no sense to me. 32GB is dogshit for storage and its only about 27 after OS. The white unit is more than enough for someone who buys only disc games and wants to save progress. The Black is for someone who might buy a few digital games before they need an HDD. The only real value proposition is Nintendoland and maybe color. It is not worth it at all if you don't want that game.

What they should have done is made the same guts for both units and kept the package deal as is, rather than confusing people into thinking that 32GB of flash is somehow worth something. It probably costs them more to have 2 different SKUS assembled than they "save" by gimping the flash in one unit.

I think some kids may come under the impression that the white one is somehow inferior, ask for black, and either be dissapointed when they get white or when their parents come home with nothing because they passed up the white when it was available.

So...

Just hit cancel on my amazon preorder. And I feel fine.

I mean, I'm broke now until next Friday, which means Amazon wouldn't have shipped it anyway.

But between a choice between a Wii U, and a two year lease on a stupidly cheap rent on a gorgeous brand new house overlooking the sea on the south coast ...ill go for the house. Especially when my current place is filled with damp, mould and goddamn insects. Not good for a baby! Or me!

As I was putting the deposit down on the house, someone else turned up to do the same thing and were noticably very pissed off when they found out Id beat them to it.

I will buy a Wii U next year with a load of games and Zombi for a fiver.

The wiiu launch reminds me a lot of the ds, negative reception on gaf, while everyone's praising/waiting for the psp. The ds launch window was a disaster, it makes me wonder how the wiiu would do in comparison.

$10 says my "EatChildren" account gets banned/blocked, just as it was with EA.
As it should be, you are scaring the children.

Is there not a way to turn off the wii u pro controller? I set my gamepad's screen off while i play black ops w/ the pro but after when I want to hop on nsmbu I have to use the gamepad and see no settings or way to power off the pro since it just sits there losing battery...

hahaha, I really doubt that

I don't plan on using the Wii remote for anything other than the thing I plug the actual controller into :)

No, it seriously is. It lets you play the game in any position you want. The game does not use the pointer or motion controls at all, just the buttons. I played the game with my arms comfortably resting at my sides. Most comfortable traditional gaming experience I've ever had.

Ooh, thanks!

A mod sent me a message a few days ago telling me to edit my profile and had it blocked from public viewing. My profile was (paraphrasing) "can't wait to have VC support on gamepad!" followed by my GAF username. Seriously.

You can hit me up, my ID is countchozo; there is a Nintendo Network ID thread, just search it but it should be within the first few pages.

Just added you, and yeah, at this point it seems like they're just taking down any post or profile that gets flagged.

Well, you definitely wasted money on that CC Pro. Wiimote and nunchuck is the superior experience.

As someone who has played 500+ hours of Xenoblade whilst using the CC Pro, the Wiimote/Nunhuck and a 360 controller on Dolphin, my answer to you would be

hell no.

You lose camera control if you just use the Wiimote combo during battles. A massive no no, especially during the later battles.

True, but even casuals want the most value for their money. Especially with Nintendoland packed in the with the Deluxe model it makes it the one they'll want to buy as well.

You also get a 10% discount for digital games on the black unit which can more than make up for the $50 price difference on top of extra storage and nintendoland.

I'm in agreement with this, and won't spend anything over $5 - $10 on the nintendo store until its fixed/modified

i find sony's to be pretty reasonable

First off NO, Sony's isn't reasonable. There are PSN games that require you be online to play (offline play games with no netcode), which is bad enough BUT

They took away how many consoles you could have it on. It is one thing to launch without functionality, taking functionality away is a huge no no, and people just let it happen. On top of that PSN has the worst customer service I've ever personally used (I've tried contacting them over 3 issues and never had it resolved or worse, the e-mails I tried for all 3 never got a reply)

why does it matter how many console activations they removed? 2 is more than enough for anyone and you're free to activate and deactivate those two accounts on any number of consoles.

about the online games, that's not sony, that's capcom and their stupid decision to require online activation for bionic commando and a few others. no others require you to be online to play them.

I'm not sure how any part of that can be construed as sexual... Likely some tight wad minister's wife who saw it on her child's wii U and freaked out and flagged it and Nintendo just siding on caution.

they probably have software that flags drawings that look anything like a penis.

So according to Gerstmann it's still easy to find Wii U in stock even after Black Friday. What IS going on?

my target had 4 basics this morning, but that's the tard pack really. Even so, I dont think Nintendo's marketing has been strong enough for consumers to know which is the better buy. They're either shipping a lot or people dont want one.

They took away something you previously had, that is wrong. It is not something to defend in any shape or form. Imagine if they patched the launch systems (you know, the expensive ones) to remove BC just because no one else had it?

GameStop had these in yesterday and was trying hard to sell them. I bought some wii games during b2g1 and they said I should upgrade to Wii U. I said yeah I got 1 that's why I'm finally getting the good Wii games. They had at let 4 that I could see.

oh right. I agree with that they maybe should have waited until next gen before making those changes.

still did anyone ever use for five activations? it was s odd number to settle upon for sony but it shows they understood how online account migration works, even if it wasn't as good as say microsoft.

I'm curious as to the shipment number for Nintendo, loving my deluxe, but the extra basic I have is going back to gamestop. Nobody seems to want the "gimped" version.

I had no problem. Just use the c button and you can control the camera all you want. It's not like doing that takes up any fingers you could be using for something else; if you're moving the camera, your right thumb is going to be occupied with the d-pad or right stick. At least with the wiimote you can select arts while moving.

Yeah, after you spend $550 it'll make the difference. That's why I didn't get a Deluxe even though I plan on getting all my games digitally, I doubt I'll spend more than $550 on Wii U games in the next 2 years.

24 month is a long ass time ill prob buy 10 games within the first 6 month easily.. But i wont use digital but will wait for pricedrops of retail games

Maybe it's because Germany is totally different but the more interesting thing will be how it sells in the longer run. The launch is super soft here and neither DS nor 3DS were selling out in the slightest when they launched either. DS had huge stockpiles and no one was interested when I picked it up at Mediamarkt, 3DS midnight launch at a flagship Saturn was a graveyard. Felt kinda bad for the Nintendo reps.

That's only 9 games. I highly doubt that anybody who posts on gaf would'nt buy that many games for a console over a 2 year period. I think you're missing out on a sweet deal here, particularly since you say you're going all digital.
