Pokémon Black Version 2/White Version 2 |OT| Zero Shades of Grey

My problem with it is less about the number of Pokemon used (though I do love stall) and more about the dearth of options. It's "play with our very specific set of rules", "suffer through an unbalanced playing field" or "spend a bunch of time leveling up ingame". I wanted to use my event Pokemon without being forced to power level every Pokemon to 100. :[

If I wanted to play 3v3 with item clause and no sleep clause, I can get more than my fill with the Battle Subway, PWT, and Global Battle Union.

Diamond/Pearl were more the exception than the norm. Game Freak has never considered LV100 or 6v6 to be what the multiplayer game is about. Its been LV50 3v3 Singles and then 4v4 Doubles going back to the Stadium days.

Got my last member! I only have a couple of routes + Black City + E4 Rematch left, but oh well. I always liked this guy. He's so silly.

Now I guess I'll just battle everyone left, then catch 'em all, and it's Subway time.

Yeah.. and I don't get how that happened. Pokemon's "main" battle front has always been and will always be a full classic 6v6.

I get get why it's 3v3 in-game because of AI, but it was always about the big fights between players. Back in the 1st gen when the levels didn't matter thanks to Missingno, we would only battle if we had a full team.

There's no difference to the AI between 6v6 and 3v3. And it hasn't "always" been like that. Like I said, this stretches back to the first generation. There has literally never been a format where they've had a full 6v6.

I know, when I said that I meant from the players' pov. GF never truly supported the format despite that which is what's weird here.

The AI does a lot better with the 3v3 than the 6v6 though, even if it's the same. You basically have 3 Pokemon against the opponent's 1, where in 6v6 it's more like 6 against 1.

I guess I'm upset that GameFreak is continually taking steps back in newer iterations, this time with a feature I really liked. I wouldn't be surprised if Gen 6 saw a return of one-time TMs or the elimination of random battles with zero explanation whatsoever.

6v6 singles hasn't been a good versus format since probably 3rd gen anyway.
I don't know. Constant tiering changes aside, 4th gen OU was quite fun. I really haven't dabbled in the 5th gen competitive stuff yet but weather wars and hard hitting mons make it sound like ubers-lite though.

I'd be mad. So mad.

But more importantly, eliminating the unlimited TM use would me they have to nerf the Unova Pokémons, because of their movepool that has been designed with the unlimited TM in mind...I don't see them doing that.

I don't want to use Solar Beam but I guess I have no choice for Arcanine needing anti water/ground :C

Also why is vulpix/ninetales shitty

Can anyone direct me to a comprehensive list all the post game content? I've just murdered the Elite 4. I also appear to have released Mesprit and co. tell me I haven't got to chase them around like a twat again...

I really underestimated how much exploring there is to do. Clay Tunnel+Twist Mountain is huge!

Also, after Mesprit launched himself at me like all other legendaries in the game (hahaha), I tried him on a whim and caught him on the first turn/quickball. What the hell.

Mesprit? You're giving me Mesprit for 1 quick ball? Is that how it's gonna work? Wow.

Holy crap, pokecheck is amazing. I just checked the team out that I just used to beat the Elite 4, out of interest. Does this work with level 1 pokemon?! If so, my mind is blown.

What order are those stats displayed in? Does my Ferrothorn have full attack IVs?!

I think so, first stat should be hp I think. Your Garchomp is pretty crazy, 25+ on both major stats (speed and attack).

HP/Attack/Defense/Special Attack/Special Defense/Speed is the standard convention.

I picked this game up a week ago and popped it in for the first time yesterday... and immediately dropped 7 hours in it. Been a loooong time since I've played a pokemon game, and I don't know why! This game is awesome.

Thanks for this. Claimed. IVs are terrible though.

Just had a tinker with the Dream World. Are there any really notable dream world abilities I should keep an eye out for? Also, does it actually make any difference what pokemon you send to sleep? Are there any drawbacks from doing so?

I was also pretty impressed to see that I was able to download Gothorita without repairing the DNS settings on my DS. I completely forgot that I had mucked about with pokecheck until after I had done so. How does that work?

I believe what Pokemon you tuck in can determine what area of Dream World you access? I don't play around with it too much. The most important DW Pokemon are probably Vulpix (gets Drought) and Poliwag (gets Drizzle). Recent releases that are getting a lot of hype are the aforementioned Gothorita and also Scraggy (Intimidate).

Oh cool, I didn't expect Dream World Gothorita to be released outside of Japan. Maybe they can do some of the Kanto starters next.

Does field abilities like Magnet Pull and repel affect the Pokemon coming out of rustling grass?

Theoretically, I don't see why it shouldn't - the Pokémon you find there is determined the same way as the Pokémon you find in normal grass, just with a different list.

Anyway, I bred me some Bidoofs. I'm going to raise all six of them to level 100. Just because.

The first one is already EV trained and nearly level 60. I tested it out in the PWT Champions Tournament. It soloed Lance and Wallace's entire teams, before meeting its untimely demise at the many hands of Blue's Machamp.

Once I have all six, I'll be back. Doesn't the Mix Master tournament not enforce species clause or something?

Ha ha. Amazing. How long did it take you to EV train? I want to get into it, but am worried it's gonna be time consuming. I also get stressed out wondering where to assign the EVs. Do you tend to just follow the base stats and IVs, or are you more "strategic", about it?

Ah cool.

So it looks like I need to Join Avenue for Max Revives and evo stones huh? Kinda wish digging was around. Made those stuff easier.

Once you have one of each of the Power items and a source of Pokérus (trade for one), then it's pretty quick. Maybe about 40 minutes per Pokémon? If you can afford vitamins, even less.

For EV distributions, I usually pick a move list first by looking at base stats and movepool, then work to the strengths of that. For example, Golurk has high Attack, but low Speed - so you'll want to boost its Attack, but focus on making it able to survive hits instead of outspeeding things.
In 90% of cases, you'll be able to get away with a standard 252/252/4 spread. The only times you want anything else is when you require a stat to have a specific value (for example, if you want to make sure you outspeed a certain Pokémon or survive a certain attack). For that you'll need to take into account IVs too.

Smogon has suggested spreads for the majority of Pokémon; you don't have to follow them exactly, but if you're not sure where to go, it's a good start.

Does anyone else feel like.. there might be a true 3rd game after all this?

I mean, this is pretty obviously a super-powered 3rd game.. and originally I thought the only reason it was split in two was because BW had so many un-merge-able version differences (like Opelucid), BUT I'm starting to have second thoughts.

There are so many things in BW2 that just make me scratch my head. Like the construction signs in an empty corner in north Opelucid, and the "planned expansion" to Route 4's west side (hell, route 4 in general), whatever is going on in west Undella, etc etc. It's like signs for a sequel are everywhere. And of course there's the "new game guy" in GameFreak's office.

Am I just putting myself into a pickle jar here? Or does anyone else see this? I don't know what to think.

Wasn't it said BW is going to be a trilogy?

Also I hate you Unova dex. I forgave you for not making Vullaby (or Rufflet to you Black folks) see-able last game, but why did you make so many Pokemon un-meetable now?!

I finally got my hands on a copy of Black 2 today. Yay! :D

The thing is, I'm into monotype runs; should I do that on my first playthrough or would you recommend that I play through the game normally before going monotype?

I'd like to do a mono-ghost run, but after checking the web, it seems most ghost-types appear later on. I guess I'll get a Golett egg or something from my White 1 cart, since Golurks only appear at level 46 or so, which probably means you'll get them slightly before or after challenging the elite four. So, when will I be able to begin trading, after the first badge?

Question: do I need to own/obtained Latias and Latios in order to get the shiny charm? Please say no I have come to far (only need to evolve 7 more pokemon) to be stopped now. :( I have a feeling the answer is yes because it's only event legends excluded from the pokedex.

If that's the case, then you could probably get someone to trade you for the dex entry. I've got both of them (but I think they still are on my Gen IV games), so I guess I could trade them for you and get them back.

On unrelated news, long live the GTS hack! Having gotten the game just today it's the only way for me to get the event Genesect. I know the hack might devaule some event pokémon, but I find timed events extermely annoying for games like this. I reset my copy of HeartGold a few months ago and only later did I realize I had lost the two special pokéwalker routes I had unlocked through events, with no way to get them back anymore (I think they were a route full of Pikachu and another one with Munchlax, Bronzor, Magikarp, Duskull and Beldum).

Oh, now this whole thing got me thinking... what will happen to my linked copy of Black 2 if I ever decide to delete my save and start anew? Will I have to un-link my earlier save from the pokemon global link and re-link the new one, or will it automatically detect that the new game is still somehow linked to the earlier save?

What is this GTS hack?

Also, White Treehollow/Black Tower is making me hate the game.

I can't find anything about that, you really made me think I missed some interview or something. Holy crap man.

Wait! Are you just talking about that one guy who mistranslated some line in the original announcement thread?

Ah it's probably the mistranslation.

Sorry guys, me again. Have a question. What's the best way to transfer my Pokes from Platinum into Black/White 2 if I only have one DS? Are those websites that let you transfer reputable? My Pokes won't go missing, right?

Thank you!

What is this GTS hack?

They're servers you can route your DS through, and which pretend to be the legit GTS to let you redeem pokémon you select from their web site. It's mostly used to get event pokémon, although you can generate whatever you want (but you should be aware that hand-crafting pokémon might make them "hacked" according to Nintendo).

I'm not sure if you can use those servers to upload your mons, though.

EDIT: I'm not sure how legal that is considered acoording to GAF rules. I know this can be used to hack stuff, but it does have some legit uses, like allowing people who don't live in the continental US to get store-specific events. If this is deemed inappropiate, just let me know and I'll edit this out.
