Fuse Box Art revealed

Pretty sure I have purchased every game insomniac has ever made, and yet I have zero interest in ever bothering with this, honestly it looks like atleast a dozen or so other games I have already played this gen and lacks that insomniac touch I've always loved.

I wonder if their regretting parting ways with sony and signing this deal with EA, seems like EA sticking their hands into this because I can't imagine that this is what insomniac really wanted to make.

Serves them right though in a way... What do you expect when you sell your soul to the devil? They really should have stayed with Sony to focus on a soft evolution of their product line while still keeping that Insomniac magic intact and make proper Ratchet games etc. instead of now making brown dudebroshooter nr. 349 where you can't even tell anymore whether they want to make it or are forced to :(

Don't mind me, just ranting cos i'm bitter the Insomniac of old is gone... but then i am also sad that 80's TV shows are gone now so i guess you just can't please everyone in the end ;)

lol, GAF can be a real dick.

i don't think anyone seriously wants Insomniac to suffer losses and people to lose their jobs etc..

it's just that it is so obvious to everyone that this game will fail. it's kind of stunning actually how quickly we can collectively determine that nowadays..

someone should come up with some algorithms that would tell the developers their recipe for a game and its marketing tactics are a surefire bomba, so they could scrap their plans before it's too late. the gaming masses are of course not entirely predictable, but sometimes it's just obvious.

At least someone loves it

Another day, another thing for Gaf to hate on a game they haven't played...

No one says the game plays like shit. We're saying everything released about the game so far look uninteresting and generic and we don't even WANT to play it.

There's a difference. The game might be brilliant, but it's a marketing disaster.

Well that's all on EA. This seems like the same shit they pulled with MoH: Warfighter.

I don't know who is responsible for the marketing in an EA partners game. But they're doing a terrible job. That might be because they're is literally nothing interesting to show about the game, and most people are naturally assuming that, becaus for what other reason would you NOT show it?

The sad thing is that I fear for the future of Insomniac if Fuse fails and Sony isn't there to back them up. Yes, now they are striking out on their own, developing games for multiple consoles, but it also means that if a game bombs their studio could go down with it.

In Ea partner deals its EA who picks up the tab for marketing the game, was the same for kingdoms of amalur, but if EA has another game launching at the same time with an ip they own this will get very little push as EA will want to focus on what they control completely.

Though the whole situation with 38 studios was a mess on a different level.

The whole Fuse thing has just become mean spirited now.

For a game no one has actually played, and we've seen very little of, to generate 9 pages of flame based on cover art is absurd. Insomniac's a highly community based dev that's been struggling a bit lately, cut them a break, GAF.

Why are we hating this anyway?

Haven't been following this too closely but I haven't seen anything hate-worthy. Including the box art.

Somebody should have told EA this. Marketing for Shadows of the Damned I saw from EA? 0. Marketing for Shadows of the Damned I saw from Grasshopper? More than 0.

The reason people are dissatisfied with it, is because it started as this:

It's not that hard to see why people were looking forward to it, and then subsequently being disappointed with how "generic" it turned out after the changes were made.

Seeing that original Overstrike trailer continues to break my heart.

Yeah. The original Overstrike was all about the characters in a distinctive, slightly cartoonesque style, the new Fuse is a action game without any recognizable characters and with an art style that looks like ten thousand generic military shooters. In the old trailer you had the main character being interviewed and introducing his team mates that showed the game was a mix of action and humor, in the new trailer you see just non descript future soldiers shooting everything in their sight with stuff exploding everywhere around them. There are just a few extremely short glimpses at the female characters.

WTF IS INSOMNIAC THINKING WITH THIS APPROACH?? HOW CAN YOU POSSIBLY ATTRACT BUYERS WHEN YOUR WHOLE AD CAMPAIGN LACKS ANYTHING THAT MAKES IT DISTINCTIVE??

grumble ... idiots .... grumble ... 12 year olds as focus testers ... grumble ...

I know the history behind it, but I just don't think shitting all over Insomniac is fair. They made a decision that I don't necessarily agree with, but lol'ing market based decisions when devs are shutting down left right and centre is pretty ignorant of the way this business works - these guys have to sell games, and assholes are only buying ones branded like this. It's a shame, but it's not like insomniac made that happen.

EA sending Alice: Madness Returns out to die with basically no marketing still breaks my heart. That gamr deserved a better fate.

The point of the market based decision is to secure a market for your product. Do you think that has occurred in this case?

Marketing exclusively to assholes will sure make their Ratchet and Resistance fans like this new game

I have no idea

The gameplay I saw didn't look bad, or even THAT generic. It even had some novel mechanics that reminded me of Resistance 2's co-op, which was pretty damn unique, actually

I mean I'm not really hyped for this game or anything, it seems disappointing after the last Ratchet masterpiece and the underrated R3, but the negative reaction seems insanely overblown

Even this box art is like... it's not good but I've seen much worse stuff get more or less forgotten instead of dogpiled

Great job, Insomniac. Now this game looks like generic shooter #467,355. Which means it will rot on shelves.

You had something really unique and fun with Overstrike, and then you grimdarked, dudebroed, and shootaned it up. On behalf of gamers everywhere, thanks for screwing up your first multiplatform opportunity. Have fun making Resistance 4 and Ratchet 12 :(

I loved R2's Co op, and one of the main reasons I haven't played R3 yet is because it ditched the R2 style Co op. I'm looking forward to this game but it seems like the co op won't be like R2's. I mean it don't seem like you will own your characters, you join other people's games and take control of the characters they aren't possessing. It seem like each play through resets levels and upgrades gained.

The thing I liked about R2 and wanted to be expanded in a later Insomniac game was the upgrades and selection of gear and weapons, making it closer to a fps rpg 8 player co op. I've been waiting for RPG games to not only be a MMORPG or SP RPG and add the ability to play with friends, at least fill out a 4 player party. White Knight did this and I liked it for what it was. Borderlands came out after R2 and pretty much did what I want but the classes didn't seem to work together like R2's. In this it seem like they will but everyone is sharing characters. It also seem like it's just story mode where you will be playing co op. Here's hoping that there will be some challenge mode where you pick the class you want and keep them for yourself.

I'm looking forward to this game for the gameplay.

Edit: That Kel picture is brilliant. S class photoshop. It's like it was sent back to the past.

so you are telling me I should purchase the digital version on PSN for $19.99?

I've been tempted to for a while... :/

Yes, yes you should. It is by no means a flawless game, but if you like oldschool platformers, amazing visual design and good stories in video games, you can't go wrong.

I never had any interest for this game anyway, but I do find it annoying that people still act as if games with more realistic art styles are somehow less "childish" than others.

From what I've seen, even the most dark, gritty, and photorealistic games have some sort of "goofiness" to them when it comes to how characters look, move around, and interact. Have we not come far enough in video games that players will put the "this game looks like it's for kids" thing behind them? All games are rooted in childlike fantastical desires so there's less and less reason to find cartoonish games less appealing than realistic ones. As time goes on, games strive to be more real but still end up looking "animated" and artificial anyway.

It's a very bad thing that focus groups are asking for more games that...look more like other games. If it has guns then it has to be some variant of Gears, COD, or Mass Effect, right? Give me a break. It's as if games like Team Fortress 2 don't exist or something.

Gamers who get caught up on this shit really need to just let it go already.
