Vita bros sell me on Persona 4.

I used to play the Final Fantasy games but really don't play many JRPGs anymore and don't really dig anime. (I like some movies like Akira and Gibli movies but most of the TV stuff is way to dull for me)

What makes this game so special.

Sorry if this has already been asked a few times but: What's the deal with the free games you get with PS+ on the Vita. Once they switch to a new game can you not play the one you've already downloaded anymore?

If you download it, its yours till you unsubscribe. The only thing taking it down does is prevent new people from getting it.

no you can. As long as you download them off the PSN store before they are removed you can play them forever so long as you keep PS +

I don't associate Persona 4 with anime, though I guess it technically is. It's just very Japanese, if that makes sense. It takes place in Japan so the honorifics are aplenty. "Thank you, Kanji-san." - that kind of thing. But I don't know if I can sell it to someone who isn't really into Japanese rpg's.

I just love the characters so much, and the story is quirky and often funny. I absolutely love the battle system, I think they've honed it down to a science at this point. I've said it before and I'll say it again, P4 is the best jrpg of the last 10 years, and that was before Atlus included a bunch of great, but subtle changes and additions to the game. Imo it's the Vita's killer app.

I was in such an RPG slump until P3P came along and completely blew me away. I had no idea such RPG's existed..

P4, so far, is shaping up to be so much more to me than P3 was. Freakin' love it.

You can play them as long as you have a subscription.

edit: beaten!

You can play as long as you are a paying subscriber.

Vitabros to the rescue.

I've never seen the anime, but played the PS2 version. They did a great job with the characters. Even the minor ones. I look forward to playing it again on the Vita.

So yeah, I spent a good bit of time this evening watching unboxing videos of the White bundle on you tube =/

...I've already had a black since launch but GAWT DAMN am I tempted to buy a white and give the black one to my son or something.

Yeah, I would MUCH rather have the white than the black Vita. I just really like white electronics, which is why I'm so sad that the Wii U Deluxe Set wasn't available in white.

That vita is tempting.
If I buy a revision model, I'll be looking at white.
Just like my new phone!

is it better to download the digital persona 4 off the PSN store or try to hunt for that elusive solid gold edition?

If you don't want to pay extortion rates, I think you'll be looking for the PSN store or a regular retail edition. :)

What makes this game so special.

For me, the gameplay appealed to my inner Pokemon fan, what with the focus on exploiting enemy weaknesses and collecting and fusing monsters.

How I've always described the story to non-anime fans is that it's kind of a Japanese Buffy the Vampire Slayer (not a perfect comparison by any means but I find it gets the point across). It's high school students dealing with these bizarre occurrences in their town with some witty dialogue and knowing nods and references to the genre's tropes. There's lots of fun lighthearted story moments that highlight the different aspects of the group, but there are also some pretty serious moments.

I'd go watch some videos of the first 30 minutes or so of the game. I think the beginning does a fairly decent job of introducing you to a lot of the different story elements of the game, from the serious to the comedic and the high schooler life to the supernatural dungeon crawling. I know some P4 fans hate it, but I've found that the Giant Bomb Endurance Run right here hooked a lot of my friends who had long since abandoned JRPGs to become full-fledged Persona fans.

Persona 4 Golden has a super easy mode that boosts the money and experience you get as well as giving you unlimited continues (I think?) and weakens the enemies. Put it on that and just enjoy the story. Hell, you can technically get all the trophies even on the lowest difficulties so it's a great way to cut down on some of the frustration of grinding and get to the story bits.

Yesterday I purchased a most amazing accessory for Vita...

...or anything thay can accept USB charging (PSVita, iPad, iPhone, etc.).

Its Playstation branded (created by Sony), Vita charger. Its a little 5000mAH battery cube and cost $30 at Gamestop. She had to dig in the back for the thing and mentioned they might not get anymore, so if you see it, snag one.

Long story short, you plug in the battery and charge it up. It has an on/off button, too. Anyhow, you use the cord that comes with the Vita, not the entire set, just the usb/connect Vita section of the cord. The charger seems to hyper charge the Vita, too, LoL.

I was using my Vita last night, and drained 1/2 of the battery. Grabbed my juiced cube charger thing, plugged it into the Vita, turned it on and Vita was at full charge within 20 minutes. I then turned off the battery, which has over 70% charge left (according to the indicator) and stored it away, continuing to play on my newly rejuiced Vita.

In short: 20ish minutes from 1/2 to full power, dont need tethering to an outlet and can work to juice your iphone or Vita.

30$ well spent, when I have a long gaming session.

Can you post a picture of it?
I looked for something like a charging cradle on amazon.de and it seems like Sony doesn't even sell them anymore.

Regarding the Persona 4 gold edition, it's not really that bad. ~$15 for the special hard case and ~$15 for the special Hori body armor, plus the skin/screen protector, plus more stickers.
It's mostly practical stuff.

Of course I don't need any of that stuff, I mainly wanted the special box. I just like collecting handheld CEs.

That actually sounds pretty cool. I stopped my whole JRPG/Final Fantasy obsession when I got sick of the whole save the world grandiose plot lines with nothing changing. Your comment about it being buffy like piques my interest. I have too many games now (damn you ps+) but Im 95% sure I'm gonna pick it up when I dig through more of my backlog and have time for an RPG.

I'm probably going to wait until I get a 32GB memory stick before I go digital crazy on my Vita. I activated my PS+ so I'm just downloading the free Vita games on PS3 right now.

Don't mind if I do.

Also, what's the process of transferring these from my PS3 to my eventual 32GB Vita memory stick? And PSN downloads are still slow as hell. No wonder I rarely downloaded anything from PSN. Since I've got PS+ now I've got to take advantage, I guess.

PSN on my Vita seems crazy fast compared to PS3. To download 2 or 3 gigs took less than an hour and usually that would take much longer on my PS3.

I have to imagine the price will start to decrease soon. Judging by eBay it seems like half the people that bought it did so to resell it.

Maybe a little but in the long run it'll probably stay expensive since it was a limited run and people using the skins and such.

Yes. Online passes and DLC wont work though.
For that reason I have Rayman in my cardslot and not, say, LBP.

Thanks. Yeah I figured. I was just hoping it was like the ps3 where I could DL Japanese PSN games and play them on my US account. Online passes and DLC Im ok not being able to access.

Again, being a Japanese Buffy isn't a perfect comparison but I feel it gets the idea across to non-anime fans. For the most part the story deals with the murder mystery and how the televisions figure into it. You're a transfer student thrust into this weird situation that you try to solve with your new friends.

The battle system like I said is very Pokemon-esque. You're exploiting weaknesses because successfully hitting an enemy with their weakness downs them and gives you an extra turn - down all enemies in the current battle and you get to do a powerful "All-Out Attack". It's also like Pokemon in the sense that you can switch your own "Persona" (your teammates stay with their own unique individual Personas) to better deal with an enemy. Know that they're about to cast an Ice attack? Switch in a Persona that resists it.

You don't put points into a character when you level. Instead, you focus on strengthening the Personas and gaining the right attacks through leveling and fusing.

I had ps plus once, downloaded the free game (forgot the name of it, it was made by double fine, the one with the dolls) and also got for free street fighter (again forgot its exact name)

I'm currently not with ps plus and I can still play them. Why is that?

Some of these game don't expire. I think it was those with licenses instead of having a version for the full game.

Didn't know either until I browsed VGP and read it. Persona collectables always seem to fetch a hefty price. That's why I usually preorder the games.

Same, any cult sort of game like that I preorder which is why I looked even without owning a vita since I wouldn't be able to get it otherwise most likely and the things bundled were just disappointing. I expected a soundtrack or artbook or something more standard than what they gave.

Yeah, and that's a good number of them.

I think any free game from PS+ that had the full game + unlock key downloads are forever.
Most people don't realize this.

On ps3 you can look at the game info and see that there are no dates.

Beaten like an unruly child in a trailer park.

Thanks lads. So, just to be sure, if I don't download it (or start to and then cancel) then I've missed my chance for that round?

Also, having never experienced an equivalent of this type of thing yet, finding out that my neighbours have Vita's via Near is weirding me out. I don't know what to do with this information.

The only problem is that they will take them out of your download list when your subscription ends. If you delete them you are out of luck.

Once you get them on your download list, they'll stay there as long as you are subscribed. If you let your subscription expire then renew, they'll be available again.
