I just got ZombiU, I find it excellent so far. Really engrossing and methodical game, really sold on the atmosphere and it's only just started for me.

Considering it said both Wii & 3DS on the card, I'm assuming this is okay then.

Hrm, that sounds peculiar. Wii and DSi use the same currency (points), while 3DS and Wii U use the same (actual money).

Well, the safest way to tell is if it says "points" (1000, or 2000, for example) on the card, it won't work on Wii U.

This is in the UK so I don't know if it was different than stateside. Sounds like a plan though, so good looking out!

Annoying though that Wii U uses GB/MB for storage and 3DS still uses blocks. Hope they switch that over sometime soon.

I've really grown to like my Wii U over the past few days, after a very shaky start.

The gf seems to really like it, the killer feature is definitely being able to continue playing games on the GamePad. But amazingly, she's also started using MiiVerse, something I never thought I'd see.

The console certainly holds a lot of potential and I think people are being overly unfair by focusing purely on the under-the-hood power of the console. The GamePad is also a good piece of kit, being able to watch Netflix on it and plug headphones in whilst someone else watches the TV is quite something. But for general gaming, I think the real benefit is playing off the screen occasionally rather than added functionality.

So, my few remaining gripes and things I'd like to see...

- Not enough released or announced exclusives. Nintendo needs more, they need to show some real commitment to this console - it's unique and therefore deserves unique games. I need more to tear me away from the 360/PS3.

- Virtual Console. Why oh why was this not at launch, it really would have given me more to play on this thing outside of NSMBU. Playing all those old SNES games on the GamePad is an awesome no-brainer. And hopefully Gamecube too, if they can find a workaround for the analogue triggers.

- Why no disc spin-down? I love the Wii U web-browser and it's so easy and quick to use straight from the GamePad without turning the TV on etc. But... it's a bloody noisy way to surf the web because I've got NSMBU spinning loud 360-style in the drive. But I'm not playing it - so why not spin the disc down!? Come on Nintendo, simple stuff.

- Still not happy that I can't turn the display off whilst using the GamePad on games where I want to play on the TV. It's so distracting for me. I've now got a Wiimote to get around this issue on NSMBU but it shouldn't have had to come to that.

OK, so a few gripes still remaining but it's definitely growing on me every day - to the point that I was incredibly disappointed when hearing about the poor sales of the console in the UK. I really do hope this is a success - nobody makes games like Nintendo and NSMBU is a real joy to play. It's so simple and yet so deep at the same time - like every Nintendo game. So many secrets, so much to discover, it never gets old.

Ultimately though, I feel this was rushed to release. There's so much potential here that the console could be something extremely special by the end of next year, but Nintendo needs to act fast and realise that potential sooner rather than later. Fingers crossed everythign works out.

I wish I could Yeah this post. Instead I'll just quote it.

The Wii U has got off to a rough start, and clearly has some issues on the software side, but I'm incredibly fond of it on a personal level. Rough edges and all, I can't remember enjoying a console launch as much as this one for some time. Maybe not since the 360; which with Xbox Live, the dashboard, Call of Duty 2 and PGR3 felt totally amazing. But I'm enjoying the Wii U much, much more than the last 3 console launches I've experienced since then, those being the PS3, 3DS and Vita. Miiverse is a wonderful thing and I'm finding the system very charming and unique in its own way, once you work around some of the quirks. I guess it also helps that I'm enjoying the games I bought. Nintendo Land, NSMBU, ZombiU and Sonic Racing are all enjoyable and are all giving me a great and varied experience with the system.

The UK sales data today was miserable reading but I'm really happy with the system and am looking forward to its future of first party and closely aligned third party releases.

If you try to buy something without enough credit, it will ask you to add whatever is needed through CC so you'll never have leftover points unless you go strictly prepaid cards.

So just like the 3DS. Nice. There you don't need to add money at all and just play the exact amount whenever you buy something.

When I picked up my premium set, I also picked up NSMB2. I'm enjoying both games, although I don't play Nintendo Land too much.

I am definitely planning on picking up Zombi U, but would like one more game; likely a port.

Which is the best port on the system right now? The one which best utilizes the gamepad?

My headphone jack already started to behave erratically on the first evening of play... :(

I hope Nintendo warranty covers this...

Other than that, I quite like the Wii U.

It's not as mind bending as the original Wii was for me, but I see a lot of potential.

As it has been pointed out, the gamepad has an outrageously tight jack. The last millimeters take quite the effort to get in. The first time I put in headphones, I thought it was really loose and wobbly too.

Some games use it more then most. Best might be harder to label depending on the person. Some people dislike how Batman uses it but others actually like it. So it's really subjective. I personally think the best use of it is ZombiU but you're already planning on getting it. The best ports seem to be Tekken, Mass Effect 3, Black Ops 2 (whatever the details under the hood are the game runs great from what I've experienced and that should be what matters), Assassin's Creed 3, and Sonic I believe.

Played through a bit of Zombi on launch day. Hated it, considered trading it in. Tense, but gahhh. Couldn't get into it.

Gave it another go, and now im hooked. Just got to Buckingham. Congrats, Ubisoft.

Sonic is still my favourite out of the two launch games I brought though. So much fun, as well as bringing back memories of Diddy Kong racing days gone by.

Would recommend that to anyone.

When you register the WiiU through the eShop are you meant to get Club Nintendo Points. I checked the NintendoUK site and it's shown as registered but like the British Eurovision contestant I got nil point.

There should be a link to a survey next to it when you click 'Games & systems registered'

Warriors Orochi 3 has been pretty solid, but unfortunately it doesn't use the gamepad for anything special. What I've played of Assassin's Creed 3 has been ok too...seems to run alright. It does use the gamepad for a map, but nothing else that I can tell (I'm still early).

I had another survey about the Wii U hardware (and a little about the games I purchased, Mario and Nintendo Land) for 50 stars today.

It was a long survey, likely seeking some intel about Nintendo fans and hardcore gamers interest about the hardware and its future.
Awesomely enought, one of the first questions was very straight forward: "What brand do you prefer the most in video games? - Nintendo - Sony - Microsoft". Seriously!

Other questions were searching for the hardware most selling point and what feature is the most appreciated one in games.
And like I said, very N-fans and core-gamers oriented.

Zombi U is so great.. Can't believe I almost didn't buy this because of those stupid reviews! Easily the best launch game.

Something happened yesterday and today: I had no time to play Wii U, but felt compelled to check out the Miiverse. (Not unlike the daily facebook check).

So I did, enjoyed it and ended up playing a game as well.

Nintendo, you sly foxes.

Almost done with Black Ops 2 I think. At least the single player campaign. Been putting most of my time into that. Thought it would be ZombiU but usually to tired when I finally come in. I like to play carefully and fear I'll do something stupid or make a big mistake simply because I'm not thinking clearly. However I'm not making the progress I would want in it however. So once I finished the Black Ops 2 campaign (which has been pretty damn good but think the Strike Force Missions really break up the pacing in a bad way) I'm going to dive head first into ZombiU to finish it. If I die then I die.

Just want to finish up the games I have before the next batch come out. Something like Nintendo Land I expect I won't "finish" for a while so it's not on the list. However BO2, ZombiU, Mario, and Ninja Gaiden have to be tackled before any other retail game is bought. I need to stay firm on this.

I'm attempting to do the same; finishing up the games I have before I buy any more. I only have three games at the moment but I've been playing them a lot longer than I normally would. I completed the Story Mode in New Super Mario Bros. U but still have all of the additional modes to go through as well as the extra post-game levels/objectives. Nintendo Land will take a while to "finish" and I'm about halfway through the Campaign mode in BLOPSII. I must admit, I've been spending more time in online multiplayer, thus slowing down my single player progress.

I've avoided a lot of good deals (Skylanders Giants for less than $50, Toys R Us B1G1 50% off, Scribblenauts Unlimited for $40, etc) but the reality is that I might not play those games right away if they were bought. I might buy one Wii U game this month, though. My attempt to avoid a large backlog is a success, so far. Too bad I didn't start doing this with the 3DS... :/

Yes! So good.

The gamepad support is brilliant. Especially with the scanner and miniguns. So much fun.

Anyway. Its unbelievable that Ubisoft is the ONLY publisher apart from Nintendo to really make an effort and show the possibilities of the Wii U.

Its also a bit depressing.

I'm hoping it's just a side effect of all the rushed ports.

well in my experience, either nintendo have a very warped conception of how long a second is (all my 12 'second' installs/downloads took more like 10 minutes), or its in hours and minutes.

to start with the estimate is way off and says it will take several hours but once it gets going it seems to be fairly accurate.

so valve was responsible for the nintendo network, after all ;)

One of the things making it easier for me to focus on the games I have now and not build up a big backlog at the moment is I'm no longer buying games for the PS3/360. Stopped months ago. Anything new coming out I'm for the most part not bothering to pay much attention to if I can help it if there won't be a Wii U version. No sense getting interested in when I'm not going to be able to even play a version. So there is more then enough time for me to focus on what I have when it comes to my gaming time.

Seems like its because of the security settings on your modem.

In Wii mode it only accepts a certain security setting. I'm sure it explains what settings are not allowed on the error code.

Out in town now so need answer ASAP.

Do Nintendo eshop vouchers listing Wii/DS and 3DS work on the Wii U eshop?

I'm guessing yes. Just want to make sure before I splash out.

I'm considering getting some USB storage. A question: any impressions on how long it takes to move content from internal storage to USB HD? Or if installs of downloads are any faster when installing to an external HD?

You mean the pre-paid cards? The Wii/DSi "Nintendo Points" cards WON'T work. The Wii U/3DS E Shop cards WILL.

I've never had to mess around with internet settings as much with any other console or device in years. Xbox, ps3, ipad, phones, etc. Everything picks my wifi up easily. I had to manually mess with settings just for the wiiu to even connect to the wifi out of the box, now I have to go into my router just to connect in wii mode.

And people say nintendo is for granny.

Ugh, my profile is still blocked even though administration sent me a message saying it had been reviewed and deemed appropriate last night. Thinking about just not having one at all. Pretty sure at this point "hi I'm brandon" being questionable wouldn't surprise me much.
