Wii U Release Day Thread

Ugh, my profile is still blocked even though administration sent me a message saying it had been reviewed and deemed appropriate last night. Thinking about just not having one at all. Pretty sure at this point "hi I'm brandon" being questionable wouldn't surprise me much.
So wait...how many Brandon's have you registered?

I went to my local supermarket to buy Black Ops 2, but it was sold out. They had all the other games, and I stupidly bought Zombi U instead of some nice and silly action game like Assassins Creed... Not that the game is too scary, but having to save ammo and watch your every step is somewhat frustrating to me.

So something is definitely not right here.

I've downloaded several games since getting the Wii U (Mario, Zombi, Trine and Neo Assault), and everything went pretty well. So I decided to download Assassin's Creed 3 today and the download began and said it would take about 7 hours to complete (which for 17GB isn't too bad). I left to work on the computer and when I came back the Wii U had shut itself off, which is strange because I thought it didn't do that when stuff was downloading.

I turned the system back on and turned off the auto shut down option. However, my download was now at around 52 hours and not going down. I shut off the system and restarted it again but the download was still 50+ hours. I decide to delete the download as well as Neo Assault to re-download and get an idea of the speed. Neo Assault (which is 82MB) is taking 30 minutes to download.

I ran a speed test and my internet is still working fine, but since the Wii U auto shut down the system is downloading like it's in fucking 1999. I don't want to wait 3 days to play Assassin's Creed. This is pure bullshit.

WHOA, what are these mysterious cross-compatible cards!? They look awesome.

Definitely never seen anything like that in Canada. I wouldn't be surprised if they work on Wii U -- afaik, anything that worked on 3DS also worked for Wii U, whether or not the Wii U logo was shown. Someone should test it though :)

How long did you leave it? Give it 20 minutes and see if it ramps up.

I left it for about an additional hour after restarting the system a second time. It was still 50+ hours. Restarting the download now (Neo Assault has finally finished), and it's hovering between 60 and 65 hours, 0% complete. I'm not happy.
It's strange that people are experiencing different download speeds. I bought Neo Assault last night and I had it downloaded and installed in roughly 8 mins.

In all honesty the download speeds have been very good for me up until now. It's only after the system shut itself off that it's been doing this. I'm not sure why that would cause slow downloads all of a sudden, though. I'm just gonna leave it to download now, and my only hope is that it somehow corrects itself as I'm sleeping tonight.

So I ordered one of those Wii U Classic Pro controllers from Amazon. The ones that let you switch between wii mode and wii u mode. I'm psyched, because I want to play xenoblade and smash bros.

My question is this: If I buy stuff off the Wii virtual console, will I be able to transfer it eventually to Wii U, or will it remain only playable in Wii mode? If the latter is the case, then I think I'll wait until there's a Wii U virtual console before I buy anything.

Maybe you can try playing with the DNS servers on your box/modem. Try Google DNS or OpenDNS if you trust them.

Mind you, it's not a promise it'll make things better. But I know at least Sony has problem of load balancing, and the download times I have are several times longer if I use my provider DNS servers.

I doubt there's problems with servers, some of them at least are probably with too much trafic so close after launch. Since not all people experiencing the same kind of difficulties, that means that not ALL of them are with their hands full. Maybe changing the DNS can connect you to a different server and make things better.

Didn't realise the eshop worked as a background app. Someone kindly gave me a Nintendoland code, and I was playing NSMBU at the time. Pressed the home buttons clicked on the eshop (which took me to the NSMBU page oddly). Redeems the code and hit 'download', then closed out and carried on playing where I left off. Nice.

Thanks for the advice, but I don't really want to be messing with that stuff. Besides, the downloads were working well before, so I can't imagine it's something to do with my modem or router or anything of that nature. For now I'll just play the wait and see approach.

Sorry if I missed something earlier in the thread explaining this, but what is this? Do you have a link to one? I didn't know there was a 3rd option between a Wii Classic Controller and a Wii U Pro controller that some how worked with both systems.

Edit: And now I see he was banned for some reason... Can anyone else answer?

My system is coming tomorrow but I won't be transferring my Wii stuff to it for awhile so I am in no rush to consolidate my controllers, just trying to plan for what my options are.

Gahhh.

Im still irritated that my Zombi U bundle didnt come with Nintendoland. Really wanted to play that one.

Gonna head to ebay, see if I can snag one for under £40.

I've ordered one locally, this one: http://www.mightyape.co.nz/product/Nintendo-Wii-U/InterWorks-Wii-U-PAL-SNES-Colours/20978358/
Universally Compatible with Wii and Wii U
No idea how though!

BGBW

Maturity, bitches.
There should be a link to a survey next to it when you click 'Games & systems registered'
Complete the survey and you'll receive 1,000 points.
got my survey link on the club site a day later and cashed in my 1000 shibatas!

not that they are worth anything atm here in germany....
Thanks. Just did it now. Noticed they've updated some of the answers. Finally can tell them how great I feel Nintendo Directs are.

I'm considering selling my kids 3DS and my 3DSXL and games, and putting that towards an iPad for the kids for Christmas. They don't play 3DS that much anymore, and I tend to play in the house not out and about. I'm thinking that the wiiU gamepad will have similar Nintendo games as the 3DS, they'll look better than 3DS and with a bigger screen. For my usage patterns its a perfect handheld.

I suspect that they'll consider wii vc games to be a different SKU than wii u ones. It's safer to wait for now.

It's just called Pro Controller U instead of Wii U Pro Controller.

who knows if it works, but they're savvy enough to do them in classic snes super famicom colors.

guys do we still have to access club nintendo on the browser to actually see our amount of stars or has it been integrated somewhere on the eShop?
i'd love to be able to choose my prizes right from the eShop

I know your feel, been getting error after error since yesterday, I've seen no less than 7 different error codes, error codes that are not even explained in Nintendo's website.

Tried to change the DNS, changed the IP config and it actually got worse, tired of this shit.

And no, my router is not the problem, my PS3 has no issue at all.

EDIT: I can't play BLOPS online now, yay!
fuck...

Anyone else getting a very loud, high-frequency "coil hiss" from the Wii U power brick?

Happens to mine whenever 3D graphics are displayed; just like with certain PC graphics cards. Never though I'd hear a console component make this noise..

while i was initially sad about my gamepad not working in my bedroom, i'm actually relieved now, otherwise i would never sleep probably.

ps: smiles are you actually playing games? XD every time i look at my friend list you are browsing miiverse

I'm not getting a Wii U anytime soon, but I am saving up money for it right now. However, I am getting a little worried with the demand of this thing. Earlier today I went to Walmart and saw 2 deluxe and 1 regular boxes. Compared that to the Wii launch I never saw one until around 8 months since it came out.

I may be overreacting, but I'm not too sure there's a huge demand for Wii U now.

There doesn't seem to be. The advertising push has been super low. It isn't just that "hard core" gamers aren't interested because it's "only as powerful as the current gen". It's that even the casual consumers are essentially unaware of its existence or are unaware that it's a new console at all.

I talked to a guy on BLOPS2 the other day who said he was pissed when he got it home because he thought it was a portable handheld.

Crazy Super Mario Galaxy glitch during Wii emulation mode on Wii U:

Bowser's dark matter plant level. Darkness on the horizon. Fighting bowser. And Bowser just flies away into space further and further away. And he never comes back. The screen is stuck on staring at him flying away. I've been watching it for several minutes now. Can't do anything but reset.

Is that a known game glitch ? Or is that an emulation glitch ? Or something else ?

Can't wait when the virtual console eventually transition its way to the e-shop. I'll eventually transfer all my Wii VC stuff over to the Wii U. All this of course to play on the Wii U pad.

This of course is if Nintendo is working on them for a future release like Iwata says. =p

That's really creepy... lol

Didn't think this deserved a thread, but I translated the article, anyway.

Nintendo strengthens digital marketing with the adoption of Adobe Marketing Cloud

Adobe Systems today announced that Nintendo has adopted their Adobe Marketing Cloud, the unified solution for digital marketing.

Adobe Marketing Cloud analyzes consumer trends in various channels, such as web, mobile, and social services, as well as clarifying consumer segments and their needs. Adobe Marketing Cloud is also a useful tool for increasing customer satisfaction, strengthening online sales, promoting brand recognition, and offering appropriate content matching consumers' interests.

Nintendo will use Adobe Marketing Cloud in various channels, such as Wii U's online sales channel Nintendo eShop, to understand consumers' needs, grasping user trends, and the company is also planning to strengthen communications as well as content deployment with it.

That sounds like a fucking platforming survival horror...

I don't know if anyone's mentioned this, and its certainly not thread worthy.

Wii U's eShop has a wishlist, but its hidden in the 'all ratings' tab for some reason...

Also, there needs to be a central hub for general discussion outside of communities on Miiverse.

Geez. New console buying spree. Bought the deluxe 2 weeks ago. Bought ng3 a week ago. Then I made the mistake of walking into TRU with the B1G1 50%off. Walked out of there with zombiu, nbmbu, controller pro, and Mario partyy 9 as a gift.
