I'd heavily dispute the supply bit.

But the other point only reenforces what I thought. It's a machine without a market right now. The HD hardcore aren't buying it for any third party upgrades. There's nothing to light a fire under the casual market. So it's only NSMBWU selling and selling to hardcore Nintendo fans. The only market we've identified so far for the WiiU.

I'm really interested to see what some of the Late October/November handheld titles like Layton, ACIII: Liberation, Paper Mario, VLR and BLOPS: Declassified did.

Don't let me down Creamsugar :)

That's awful. Let's hope this isn't an omen of things to come for the next gen.

We really need new consoles across the board. Clinging onto the 360 and the PS3 has only held the industry back from its much needed refresh.

The Wii U isn't enough...we need new consoles from everyone to jumpstart the industry in America.

It's IMPERATIVE.

Hmm, so what does that mean for people who WERE buying a Wii U, since apparently they weren't buying any games? Scalpers, people who assumed Nintendo Land would suffice (as Wii Sports did for "casuals"), people with gadget lust, or?

Christmas presents? You don't need games immediately and have a month to save up/wait for deals.

My dad picked up a Deluxe for his stepson and that's what he did.

3DS selling less YoY is definitely the biggest fail in this whole november NPD story.

people buying DSs MORE than last year indicates people haven't got the memo that next gen already arrived.

good job nintendo, now call your nextgen consoles "3DS advance" and "Wii U Elite" and watch as people continue buying regular DSs and Wiis in 2020.

such morons.

It's going to cost them in the long run. Not sure why they didn't just go with a new name and make it plain and obvious that it's a new console. There's no need to be clever when naming your product. Make it as simple as possible for consumers to understand it's something new.

I agree. Nintendo is ridiculously terrible when it comes to marketing.

I mean, seriously--Wii 2 or Super Wii would have completely destroyed any brand confusion.

Does the DS and Wii still selling well make anyone else think the same thing happens with MS and Sony with their next console (i.e., 360 taking sales away from the new console)?

PS2 outsold the 360 through most of 2006, and the PS3 and sometimes the 360 in 2007. This is nothing new.

No WiiU games? No PS All Stars? Yikes.

Sad to see no Paper Mario or LittleBigKarting either, even tho it was expected.

Cool to see Skylanders up there tho. Especially since its not its premiere month.

single platform charting vs multiplatform charting in november

i also am shocked

Maybe the 3DS needs to be rebranded? :/
Change the boxes at least.

Also how about:
- 3DS XL
- Super Mario 3D Land
- A popular DS game installed on the system

Also a 3DS Lite to replace original 3DS build quality would work well too.
Nintendo should make DS games downloadable. PRONTO.

Heck Gba games honestly should have been available like an year ago.

"The much anticipated launch of the new Wii U console brought in more dollars than the Wii launch in November 2006, up 21 percent from that launch month. With an average price 35 percent higher for the Wii U at launch compared to the Wii, this is an example of how consumers are willing to come out and spend when they see the value of the product. Comparing Wii sales from November 2011 to Wii sales combined with Wii U sales in November 2012, dollar sales increased by 76 percent.” - NPD industry analyst Liam Callahan

I'd heavily dispute the supply bit.

It clearly sold out its first shipment, which is most likely what he's talking about. That said, it's in stock now in most regions.

I'm going to attempt some math here. Let me know if I'm wrong. I probably am.

Didn't the Wii sell 576K launch month? If I attempt math by revenue at $249, multiply it by the 21 percent boost, and divide by the 35 percent hardware boost number I get roughly 516K Wii Us sold for the month.

476K I think is the Wii number. Recalculate.

Cheap systems with cheap games sell. It's why I think any console successor are going to have problems selling their new consoles for at least 2 years after release.

Yeah, it's $99 now and you can pick up a lot of cheap games. Lot's of people here seem to forget that not everyone has a lot of money to spend.

As much as I love it kill the thing so the 3ds can live.

No joke

Well the difference was that PS2 was $129 and PS3 was $599. DS and 3DS are so close in price that this shouldn't happen especially as 3DS is backwards compatible with DS.

THE WORDS! They'll drift away without the _!
Looking back over previous years, this seems to be the first time only 1 exclusive game has charted.

edit: I'm talking about November, not going over all 12 months lol

You're right. I read it quickly and thought he was talking holiday outlook. It's fair to assume he's simply talking about November (although even the last couple days weren't exactly impossible to find).

I am not sure with what sort of authority you would assert this. It was really difficult to buy a WiiU for me in November.

Ebay tracking. Not a fan of anecdotal evidence since you can skew it to whatever agenda you have. Ebay, for as much as it sucks, does provide a valuable tool for tracking macro demand and getting the true picture of something.

If having similar names is harming 3DS/Wii U in the present because of brand confusion, won't the same phenomena necessarily help them once supplies of the older model dry up?

"I want a Wii" automatically becomes "I want a Wii U" if that's all that's available.

So basically so far we got that Wii U should be around 427k, PS3 in the 650k-700k range.
3DS down yoy (of course) and DS up yoy.

If only NSMBU sold anything "meaningful" than everything else bombed hard, including ZombiU.

No.

"Website not to be mentioned" had the sales of ZombiU at 91,394 from the 18th to the 24th.

That website isn't extremely accurate but it does give a good indication of how games are doing.

If it was really close to that after 1 week then I would say that is pretty damn good.

'Even a broken clock is right twice a day' site guesses its numbers like you or I.

Why not? WiiU did 400k+ with 1 week, it has 5 in December lus good stock. PS3 looks to be around 650k so it isn't some massive stretch.
