LTTP: Kid Icarus: Uprising

I've never played a game that was so happy just to exist. So much of this game is just a pure joy to play and experience, and I say this as a left-hander who didn't use the CPPro.

Boy isn't this right. Everything from "sorry to keep you waiting!", Medusa's remarks that she's finally back after 25 years, constant references to the 80s ("What? You mean this guy?" with the sprite and sound effect), the references in the music (like the song played when a reaper sees you).

Well, it easily gets soundtrack of the year. Gameplaywise... meh. The flight sections are super shallow and always the same shid, just with different movies in the background that have absolutely no effect on the actual game. Ground sections are much better but brought down by the controls. Even if you get used to them, they are never perfect - the game belongs on a home console with Wiimote controls. As usual, Sakurai compensates with tons of content etc so it was still fun enough.

This game just may be my game of the year. So much to satiate both my nerdy side and dopamine-hungry side. Loved this. It's a shame that most people have already begun to ignore its existence.

Floor ice cream gives you health!

Lol. Seriously, this game is easily my favorite game of the year, 70 hours on it and my most played 3DS game. Once I finish Paper Mario I really need to play some more of this now that Ive got a 3DS XL.

I didnt dabble much in 7.6+ difficulty, how high of a weapon level and stars does anyone recommend for 8.0+ difficulty in the campaign? All my good weapons are about 250 to 280 for playing online.

How timely, I just ordered this off amazon today. It should come in tomorrow.

I'll remember some of the tips in here (FPS mode, set sensitivity high, etc.) Are there any other things I should take note of?

I remember being scared to play this game because
towards the end of Act 1 I thought the game was going to end, then every mission after that I was to scared to advance because I didn't know how far away I was from the actual ending. Really enjoyed the story, was a great ride and a game I couldn't put down. Don't really find those nowadays.
Definitely my GOTY.

Wow at the amount of love in here. Seems like this will probably win GAF's GOTY.

Personally I thought the game was average...I found the gameplay to be shallow.

No way this game will win GOTY, even though it deserves it. Not nearly enough people here who have a 3DS for it to even have a shot.

(I'll be OK if Sleeping Dogs wins, since I love that game too, but GOTY really should be KIU)

If you're really desperate for a new weapon you can unlock a >300 First Blade by acquiring all the in-game idol statues, which you can do by find a website with all the AR Cards somewhere and just scanning 'em all in manually.

Also, awesome character design

at last, for christ's sake
among a plethora of actually convincing gags, Pit getting crazy excited about hot springs was really funny to me,

Yeah, sadly it didn't get as popular as it should have been. One of the best things about KI:U was that borrowed difficulty mechanic. It just fit the game so well.

Across your posts I notice a number of games you find mediocre, I love. They only thing we seem to agree on is Zero Escape...

Ive got a few decent/mediocre >300 weapons, but overall something that high isn't necessary is what you're alluding to. I'm good with that.

It still blows my mind how Sakurai does it.

That and how the fuck he got that all-star composition team to make this awesome OST.

I mean, I have no idea how he does it.

Also how does he get younger as he gets older? It just makes no sense. Sakurai is a man of mystery.

Perfect way to describe Kid Icarus Uprising. The game radiates light and joy. You get the strongest impresson that Sakurai had an absolute blast making it.

Yeah, the game just had so much heart that it surprised even me given how so many games lack it now. Really love and appreciate the game, it deserves all the praise it gets.

Sakurai plays lots of non-Nintendo games like Uncharted 3 and Dark Souls, too. He's a true gamer. And it explains why his games are so feature-rich and option-rich, because he knows more value and more options is great. And he's an animal lover! (He loves his cats)

LOVE THAT MAN. And to think, right now he's making not one, but TWO Smash Bros. titles, shaping them in the irradiated forge of his secret moon base...

Loved it, the story was epic and amazing. Some great surprises to be had in it. The usual Sakurai everything and the kitchen sink approach to content. I can see peoples gripe with the controls but it is really something people need to learn and adjust to. It just wouldn't be the same fast paced game had it been playable with just dual analog controls.

Easily my GOTY

Shikamaru Ninja is hinting that he could end at EAD... imagine that.

Yea, I found playing with high sensitivity much better, had no idea there was a FPS mode. That said the controls are still iffy. I'll turn on aim assist when I get back to it. I've stopped playing it since I'm saving up for 3DS XL. I've already formatted my 3DS, hoping to sell the thing but nobody is interested. =/

I still think the localization/dubbing is terrible and the constant blabber annoys me.

I think the biggest fault was releasing in a portable. That game is too epic...
Also, its a lock for best OST-OTY.

Not everything has to sell a million. 800k is a great number. Especially for whats essentially a new I.P. on a "dying" portable market.

BorkBork

The Legend of BorkBork: BorkBorkity Borking
Was a serious doubter, came away completely impressed. The dialogue is so good and campy.

Weapon fusion was such an addicting feature. Also Sakurai has a wealth of stuff to pull from for Pit's SSB move set, gonna be good.

I cherished Meteos as an early DS title, but... Eh, I don't know. Had the classic Sakurai menus, though!

Planet Puzzle League and Tetris DS happened.
