is beloved, despite what anyone might say
With a lot of these "quick restart" games, I never feel I'm actually gaining a mastery over the level designs/mechanics the way I do something more methodical, slower-paced, but still very challenging like say, a NES Castlevania or Mega Man game. Like, I'll beat a level and feel that it was a fluke more than anything else... when going through the levels again to collect the puzzle pieces/missed masks, I realized that I'm still having trouble and in some times, not even getting close to the high score I got the first time through the levels. Anybody else feel this way?

Has anyone managed to get an A+ in chapter 8?

http://www.twitch.tv/the_real_safe_bet/c/1752797

Not sure if Masks matter a great deal.

Managed to snag an A+ while working on the "Wear All Masks" achiv.

iirc

I had the "extra ammo" mask on.

Haven't figured out in detail what the game values most, and probably won't, .

I just try to be as fast and varied as possible.

When possible, I try to knock them down and perform a ground kill with a weapon equipped for the extra points.

I thought it's a sequel-sized expansion?
It was originally an expansion, but it got turned into a sequel.

I already got an A+ the day after I posted that, but thanks for the advice. I re-visit the level every now and then and it's really hard to re-earn the A+ on that level. It's probably the hardest A+ to get, for me personally at least.

The drill mask made it super easy to A+ every level, but I think they nerfed it.

I never really liked the drill, since the only thing it has going for it is the unique execution, which doesn't even work when you execute them against the wall (plus it doesn't hit dogs). I prefer zooming through the map while actively switching/tossing weapons on the fly to maximize my combo, and the drill unfortunately doesn't facilitate that.

In Chapter 12
Trauma, there's a key card two rooms north of where you start that lets you into the locked room across the hall. Is there anything to this, or is it just an alternate route through the floor?

Spoilered just in case. :p

This was pretty fantastic. It didn't click with me at first but then it did. Tony the Tiger mask is the best, you kill everyone with a single punch, including dogs. Except the fatties. Only negatives for me are the somewhat wonky controls and the easily exploitable AI.

BTW is it possible to make sense out of the story? :p

Everytime I launch the game proper, as in an actual mission, the graphics go nuts. It is just a blurry mess. Anyone run into anything like that because I can't find info on google about it.

What, are you saying the keycard wasn't necessary? I thought it was the only way of beating the level!

Any tip for the "final" level?
(I know there are some bonus levels after that.)
I can beat the tigers and bodyguard, but the main thug always kicks my ass.

lol Yeah, you can completely skip the key card. I didn't even notice it until after I beat the game.

As for the final level,
as soon as you kill the bodyguard, run right up to the boss and get as close as you can. He can't hit you when you're right up against him. While he's reloading is your chance to grab a weapon and hightail it back to him.

Thanks a lot, I'll try that the next time I play the game.

Another way is to try
to kill the bodyguard near one of the 2 pillars/columns in the room, since they will block the bullets from the boss, that way you can hide while the boss is firing, run out and grab a knife to throw at him when he recharges while also running for the other column.

All sorts of spoilers, obviously:
On a superficial level, it's about some nationalistic dudes wanting to kill the russian mob because they're nationalistic assholes.

On a deeper and cooler level, the two guys you meet in the end are the devs saying to you that they just gave you the frailest of excuses so you could go on a rampage feeling like there was more to it than that. When you mix it with the nationalism thing of protecting America and whatnot, I see there's a jab at all the other Call of Duty type of games that spend cutscene upon custcene trying to lay out why the bad guys are very bad and why your extreme violence is necessary. And I think they mean that pretty much most games are just that, a shitty excuse for you to murder whoever's in that way, and that we should think a little about how "we enjoy hurting other people".

That sounds tough.
The bodyguard throws a weapon at you what seemed like it couldn't be stopped by the column. That's the method I originally tried and she kept killing me while I was behind the thing. I guess there's a sweet spot though. Got too frustrated to keep trying. :p

So... Steamworks. I just downloaded this on my gf's computer and it doesn't appear to have my saved game? Isn't that what Steamworks is for?

don't stand behind the column until after you kill her. for some reason she only throws the knife if you're behind it. However, bullets don't go through it.

Also, another tip that you may want to wait to read.

lock on is your friend

This game's steam implementation still needs some work. AFAIK the Steam overlay still doesn't work.

99.9% of games are about "killing" something.

Alright, I just did it this way. So much easier than the way I was doing it. smh :lol

That whole section was frustrating for me. Even once I knew how to do it I kept dying
to those panthers. I have no idea what triggers them to leap. The first 10 or so times I never had them tackle me once. Then, out of nowhere they did it every time for awhile.

I found that boss fight far easier than the first one against the biker dude. As long as you can get the cats the woman dies instantly by throwing the trophy at her, as soon as she dies pick up a knife and get behind the column, peek out and throw one, grab another knife and repeat. I spent probably 20 minutes at least constantly restarting against that damn biker, compared to maybe 2 or 3 attempts for the final boss not counting deaths from the cats.

Soooo....

The Biker's course of events is the actual one that happened, the Jacket guy's events were some near death fantasy?

In any case, it was a really cool. It was a fun ride.

Just beat the whole thing, except the bonus chapter.
Now to find the puzzle pieces.

Is the pay off worth it? Someone spoil it for me.

Anyone else getting far too many crashes with this game? I love it and want to keep playing, but it seems to crash a good 4 or 5 times every time I sit down to play it and I'm not sure why.

Alternate ending about taking down the Russian mob or something
.
It wasn't super memorable or anything
. But it was a reason for me to go back and replay.

Bought it. 6 chapters in I guess I quite like it. Controlling it is a bit of a hassle, be it with a 360 controller or KB/mouse, but who cares.

I tried using the 360 pad the other night and just couldn't do it, I just find it doesn't have the reaction times of a keyboard & mouse.

Still can't get past chapter 10. Always crashes on chapter 10 in the 3rd floor. Tried changing all sorts of driver settings, nothing will help.

This is what I finally ended up doing. Great game, though I didn't unlock the special ending nor all the masks and weapons.

Lol Am I the only one who completely forgot about lock on and beat the game without it? Just finished it including the bonus levels, really enjoyed but couldn't help but abuse the AI at times by just baiting them all and standing around the corner. Really enjoyed it though but I do wish there was a little more to the story, I know that was probably the whole intentional but I couldn't help but feel a little unsatisfied by the resolution.

With me both suck. I can't aim properly with the 360 and I can't move properly with KB/mouse.

Lock-On is your friend.

Also..

I hate to sound like "that guy" but...

If you're playing it as a shooter, you're playing it wrong.

Helmet guy officially the worst boss fight of the year. So bad.
hehe

Have to respect the code though.

;)

Personally, I hate the Final Chapter Boss more.

I know about the lock-on and abuse it quite often. Still feels wrong. Literally, every single time I die is because of the controls. Too much stuff to keep track of at the same time. Having to move, aim and shoot all at the same time gets mighty confusing in a top down shooter.

Also, I'm not playing it as a shooter, I mostly use melee weapons, but I think the game's supposed to be played as a shooter... why else would 50% of the weapons be guns?

EDIT:

Yep, just impossible to control accurately, at least for me. I cannot for the life of me play this game and feel in control. With controller I have shitty aim, on keyboard/mouse I can't move my guy properly.

And the trial and error nature of it drives me a bit insane. If the controls were good I'd have no problem with it, but when nearly all of my deaths come about because of control issues it's hard to love.

EDIT 2:

Yeah, it gets pretty ridiculous in the later chapters that require way more precision than I can ever hope to achieve. I'm getting way too fucking frustrated.

EDIT 3:

Finished it. Worst "final boss" in the history of mankind, lol. Liked the bonus levels.
