It's hilarious that we had to put up with so much crap over the years at shows like the VGA's on the altar of main stream appeal and spelling it out for the dumb TV viewer - and then we get such a cryptic announcement you have to decipher first. Good luck preordering this at Gamestop tomorrow morning

When they show gameplay in ground zeroes trailer, it looks pretty much like that (plus shiny specular plus rain). Similar image quality in GZ, if not even worse, with at times obvious alpha-to coverage handling for transparencies.Ignore the rain, look at everything else. I think this trailer looked bad graphics-wise and I thought ground zeroes looked good. That's all. If the environment effects are good enough to pull that kinda trick on me, then they are hella good.
No way this is a next-gen game.

There's definitely some reversed piano in it. The rest doesn't sound much different.

Those saying that the character models in the Phantom trailer and the GZ trailer aren't the same, thing again. They are.
It looks slicker in the GZ trailer because of the rain. It makes the normal and spec maps pop out more. Kinda like how when they film movies at night they water down the streets to make it more reflective and slicker.
The nose, beard and scar are of the same model.
Also, when 'Snake' first tumbles down and knocks over the cart, you got the same lens flare effects from the GZ trailer. Maybe a post-effect trademark?

GZ wasn't show on a next gen hardware either, no way. There's no way they'd use alhpa to coverage on a decent PC or next gen console spec.

If I were an unknown studio that just announced a game at a gaming awards show, then found out every was thinking the game is something its not, it'd probably be wise to do damage control.
Otherwise, i'd be obligated to make the game that people want/think.

I know this is MGS-related, but is the new thread title a joke? And are they outsourcing this?
I haven't seen the Fox Engine on the Vita yet, but if as much work has gone into it as Kojima has said, it's 100% possible with optimization and the right technical wizards.
I dont necesarelly disagree, but I dont expect that much of a leap for next-gen either. Just not as low as to something like Phantom Pain here wich looks completely like a current-gen game.

Wait, are people really serious about this being a Vita game? I thought it was sarcasm at first but it seems like it isn't. Sony would be teasing this through the roof if it was. The V instead of a 5 is related to the codename Snake has in the hospital.

The biggest question is if this and Ground Zeroes are separate or not. Kojima said they were separate before but this looks so similar that I have a hard time believing that to be true.

My best uninformed guess is that the dude missing the arm is a clone of some sort .. but that would be weird for a mainline MGS game.

That would make me very happy. MGS4 is so fucking dumb, even for a series that has a fourth-wall breaking boss, a ghost arm, and a man made out of bees.

Theory - Moby Dick is a real studio (just a new branch of KojPro). The game is being developed in Sweden as the first Western-made Metal Gear as alluded to by Kojima in the past. I suspect it's comprised of a lot of ex-GRIN staff. That would possibly explain the visuals if they are using their own Diesel Engine.
