X360 line for comparison at the same place (reverse angle looking from the head of the queue) - i love how everyone is hiding their face! lol.

Is that the entire Japanese 360 user base?

OK, now this makes it seem worse than I thought it would be. Bamco wants 350k lifetime sales? I could only see that if they had gotten 250k+ first week. I'm hoping the drop in 2nd week won't be too big but I'm not expecting anything.

And even i am moderately surprised
the system is selling out after launch day in some stores:

underlined the pertinent part. The machine isn't fully sold out - not by a long shot - it would appear. I can get one right now in my home town if i want to.

Again - we are back to "did Nintendo pour a glut of machines onto the market" or "did they cover preorders + %"

and again - it seems preorders were pulled on thursday last week - certainly in Aki/shib/shinj we went from LOADS to ALL GONE! I wonder if that was a stock order deadline or something?
(i.e. the last day to commit to stock)

Also - Japantimes has Nintendo spokesman again claiming the machine is sold out in America.... :/

Hopefully we get sell-through figures for the hardware, so we don't get all the bullshit arguing over whether the system is effectively sold out or not.

According to Miiverse, at least 11k unique japanese people have played NSMBU and posted in the community. This includes multiple accounts on the same console, though. Monster Hunter is ~8k.

Doesn't say much about the actual sales, but I expected these numbers to be higher.

Sales-Age Genius
from some retailer blogs Premium Set appears to face the biggest supply problems, NSMBU>>>Nintendo Land>Monster Hunter, Zombi U>>> everything else.

For the record, every version of the system was sold out in Nagasaki prefecture (I can guarantee at least 80% of the stores had none left yesterday). The caveat being that the retailers I spoke to only got enough units to cover preorders. None of them were actually selling systems to people who walked in that day.

Well, we know about the terrible software sales in the US so this is not exactly reassuring. NSMB, which did relatively fine (243k) had more than double the posts than Japan has now.

Seems in line with the number of posters in the Miiverse community. Got to say, I was kinda surprised seeing so many posters in the Japanese Zombi U community.

It's Nintendo published. But surprisingly good indeed. Will wait for the numbers. Very very good move for Ubi (don't forget JD4) in any case!

Lines seems pretty thin. But it was somewhat expected. I think the lines are now the past. Distribution shemas and pre-orders are now better prepared, and early adopters just went into the store when they can. The real deal start right after that, we will see what is the momentum for the system in the following months.

Edit: Nvm, is Nintendo Land even bundled in JP? If not then it's not surprising at all.

No it's not.

Aeon in my town was sold out by midday of 26 Premium and 12 Basic, plus (after asking) about 17 pre-orders.

Was number 3 in line and only got there half an hour early, lol.

Zombi U is dubbed in Japanese too (didn't realise) and so is COD, I think, which might help sales.

Again - to put that "30 people at yodobashi" queue into a little context ...

here's the Vita queue at the same location (we had to queue over from the main enterance)

waiting2-600x337.jpg

The queue looped all the way round too. 300+ or so, perhaps Johntv can remember as i think he was counting.

This said - Yodobashi abandoned preorders at the last moment when they first became available and they didn't start until some time later. Still, i'd have thought they'd have had more than 30 people, but - hey - sounds like everyone went to Ikebukero for their unit this time (reports of 3-400)

and i hear ZombiU has no English at all right? Which will help here - but for honkeys abroad, please be aware :D

Went to 5 stores around here today (Osaka city).

Everyone sold out of MH bundles
2 were sold out of both systems
2 only had basic sets
1 had both basic and premium sets

Probably doesn't matter, but Sofmap is already offering Wii U Basic for free with an internet contract. Never seen that happen on a systems launch, but it's anecdotal.

Nope, checked the options, no subtitles or audio for English. The only English is in-game signs and the Ubisoft logo at the start. Dub is pretty decent too.

Does anyone have the launch week sales for GC, Wii, PS2, PS3 and 360 so we can have them as a comparison when the Wii U numbers are revealed?

What's the current conversation about? Whether or not Wii U launch sales are any good or if the lines outside stores are indicative of sales or not? All we have are a few pictures and anecdotal evidence. Let's wait for numbers.
