Before game was released we said a bunch of the ideas were garbage. People (Read: Slrpers here who got to play it early said "Nah man just wait til you play it") They obviously went ahead with their vision and people are surprised a lot of players here dont like it?

Gee I'm shocked.

They just need to listen to the fans a little harder, and the casuals a little less (They will buy the game no matter what, they will even continue to play it if its actually a good game!)

I guess my point was simply that if people here at HaloGAF are going to be dicks, 343 isn't going to listen or continue to interact with us.

I absolutely don't think there is anything wrong with disliking the game and being negative, there's just a line that needs to stop being crossed.

I agree, it's tough since most of the regulars here live and breathe halo, it's really disappointing when the latest game doesn't live up to what your expectations of halo is.

If there's one thing I'd like from 343, it's better outreach with it's community. It has a huge fanbase with THC, HBO, and the like, but they have worse community interaction than treyarch and infinity ward.

Prior to release, I though it was awesome that there were 343 employees interacting with the community here, but I don't blame them from staying away now.

-- Many of the honchos at 343i have literally bet their careers on their new 'vision' for the game they told Microsoft would carry the franchise forward. They will ride this one down all the way to the bottom before they change anything.

-- If DLC sales crater they might try some emergency surgery though. Spartan Ops sure as hell won't be a new revenue source in its current state.

Is this an excuse to be a dick? I don't understand your point.

343 isn't going to listen either way as proven by years of dedicated, constructive feedback from hundreds if not thousands of people across every Halo community on the web. The response we get is a crying baby on twitter, endless cross-selling of products in weekly updates, regular edition copy of the game in the $400 limited edition console, AR starts on Valhalla to this day, the removal of Squad Slayer without explanation, broken features, missing features, a map pack that caters to nobody, removal of classic legacy Halo gametypes, modes that are embarrassingly outdated when compared to the competition, etc

I'd rather watch people vent because the product they spent money on isn't what they wanted it to be than cater to some imaginary ear of 343 as if we'll actually see change and progress if everyone starts writing like Joyce.

Whose idea was it to increase the bro spawn weight? I just played a game where I got a triple kill, weakening up the fourth kill and 2 of them respawn on top of him, denying me the Over. And the worst part about it is that it was my side of the map. Bro spawning didn't work in Reach, why apply the same mistake again?

I'll believe this if the same practices are continued after Halo 5 launch. I feel they are too young and are still learning from things, especially with pre-order stuff and what to put in each bulletin on the release path. I think they'll find their way with time in that regard, and with communication as well.

Vent away of course, simply don't be a dick. That's all I'm getting at. Venting doesn't have to be rude bullshit.

Well said.

Just once I would like to see 343i engage in information dissemination like DICE does with BF3. They acknowledge the problem and talk about the solutions. Sometimes their solutions aren't good enough so they repeat and keep tweaking the game until they get to a level of balance they were going for.

343 never seems to say anything about changes (either past or future) and the bulletins are a joke.

Just once? They have a few times already. Maybe not the stuff you want, but they have.

I don't remember DICE saying much until patches come out or just before when they are approved. After they are released they do patch notes, which 343 has also done so far. The game has barely been out a month, what do you expect in terms of solutions and shit? I don't think BF3 had anything in this timeframe after its release either.

They are a new studio Kyle, I'd appreciate if you could cut them a little slack. I also believe that they will begin to communicate more in the future, in addition to becoming receptive to player feedback and acting upon it.

I suggested long ago that there needs to be a playlist/matchmaking blog. You don't have to say who the people who are that make decisions, but actually get the community involved with each change. Get votes on upcoming updates, show some of the data behind playlist removal or gametype tweaks. Do it kinda like the OK Cupid blog where you leverage all the population trends and data you have to better engage the community..

Throwing in "hey here's SWAT for another week!!! <3 bsangel" in between Forza car skins and Chinese briefcase advertisements gets really, really old.

Want a kick in the nuts?

David Vonderhaar (Black ops II) asked the community about respawn timers in Hardcore mode, and they were adjusted based on feedback from the community.

People can hate on COD all they want, but for right now, Activision/IW/Treyarch actually seem to "get it."

Sometimes you have to yell kick and scream to get something done. I swear its true. People get really complacent these days and sometimes just need to be shook out of their state of mind.

smh

I wonder if this affects spawning across the board. In a no instant respawn setting does the spawn system still weight the bro so highly? I'd guess yes, since nothing has actually changed about the spawn system.

Can someone give me the benefits of instant respawn? The only thing I've got is that it makes the matches go by faster, which may or may not be a good thing. For negatives I got that it destroys the player's ability to fight back after killing the respawning player, increased the bro weight, destroys flanking patterns...

Because they've been saying that since they got control of the Reach playlists. It's time to stop "getting started" and get to work.

Well, for starters, I would imagine that since much of the team has worked on a variety of AAAA titles, including the Halo series, that they could produce a competent product when given the largest budget that Microsoft has ever allotted to a game's development. Secondly, no meaningful communication has been solicited by 343 about any of the problems regarding the game's basic functionality.

I can't even really get into Forging at the moment. It just feels like I'm making scenery to be played in, not a map. I can't control the spawning, can't design around weapons to discourage camping... can't collect content because file shares are still broken and the CCs are still in the dark on if they'll actually put any effort into using community content. There's 3 maps on the disc that are nowhere in matchmaking. People want to play Relay. Settler would be an actual sym map for CTF. Whatever Erosion's variant is called should be in BTB and Flood by now. It almost feels like they regret actually having Forge in the game.

I scanned that dude's twitter and it had a bunch of stuff about updates to their ranked mode and all the changes they were making. Someone here posted a screenshot of the equivalent guy at 343's twitter and he had a picture of a glass of whiskey. It's not really surprising to me that COD has quadruple the population of Halo 4.

Thing that really stood out is the COD community actually gets patch notes! https://twitter.com/DavidVonderhaar/status/276899953190785024

Aren't we still waiting for a list of changes from the recent Halo 4 update? I'm jealous.

Team "Slurp" (ugh, what a fucking offensive name), once and for all, makes a push and has Team Downer banned from the forums. The rest of the night, and every night, forever, is spent setting off fireworks, playing Halo, hanging out with the members of Breaking Benjamin, and doing donuts in the community warthog on the lawn of the HaloGAF mansion.

I think it's weird how it talks about watching episodes with your friends... but you can't. The option is disabled in party.

It's so strange how they made all of the individual pieces more appealing and somehow managed to make three palettes that are either completely unusable or too small to make anything decent out of using the terrain. We won't get any Forge palette DLC either, as the DLC has already been scheduled. So we're stuck with this, and until someone manages to work some magic I don't think we'll be getting anything decent out of any of these maps save for some token remakes. Maybe I just don't have the same mojo I did with Reach's Forge. Of course, I Forged a bunch of Invasion maps...

I'm not saying that at all. I'm saying I won't agree with what I quoted until that point. I truly believe they tried their best, had some missteps, are observing, and I believe they will learn and change some things, at least in terms of communication and execution, not necessarily just giving you the Halo you want.

Looking back at the first Halo 4 BTS video...

Does anyone else like the older, brighter version of Adrift?

Also, Broadswords (or whatever swords) in the SpOps trailer...

Hmm... I hope this means more than just 5 new environments.

So am I the only one thats going to be severely disappointed if we don't get to pilot those broadswords we saw in the trailer?

Any ETA of the on-disc forge maps integration into MP?

Or any community created forge maps?

CTF and SWAT somehow play on all of the same maps and it has gotten pretty old pretty quickly. I know the map pack is coming out tomorrow, but I doubt all three are going to be integrated into either of my go-to playlists.
