I've been there, and it's one of the most amazing manmade things I've ever seen. Looks like a UFO with a city on top of it just landed on a flood plain. Once you're in the town, you feel like you're in Gondor or Helm's Deep.

This. It's amazing to sit there and watch the tide come in as well. And nobody (when I was there) was walking around at night. It's other-worldly.

As for Berserk: for whatever it's worth one of the movies came to the US recently, but I still haven't gotten around to watching it even though I pre-ordered it. Did rent most of the original TV series, but that stops at a key point and I think because of the events of that key point Blockbuster opted not to carry the last DVD.

I loved that film. I hope they really accomplish the impossible and do the whole series, but it has to be finished first. :p

I assume it was mentioned already, but what is GAF's opinion of this Wii U petition?

http://www.change.org/petitions/dark-souls-ii-for-the-nintendo-wiiu

I know petitions are usually junk, but this is already at 8,000 where it was like 2,000 last night. The goal is 100,000.

It seems to climb every minute, I'm wondering if it's on autopilot, faking the sigs, no way it's getting that many consistent signatures.

Yeah there's something definitely fishy about the sigs going up every other second lol. I personally don't think it would be financially viable at all.

If it's technically feasible than I'm sure it's financially viable. Problem is I'm kind of doubting the former after how Dark Souls turned out at times AND being very CPU dependent. If Nintendo pushed even to 1.5 GHz I'd be more optimistic, from the sound of things that'd have punted it up to slightly better than current gen CPUs rather than slightly worse.

oh god, the CPU getting worked hard with all the AI routines and pathing was one of the reasons why blighttown ran at 5fps.

I don't even want to imagine that game using a WiiU processor.

Hey guys, I found something: A (Google) translated Polish interview with the composer of the music from the Dark Souls II Trailer.

He talks about From Software sending him WIP screenshots and unfinished versions of the trailer as they became available, and reveals that he finished the piece around Thanksgiving weekend. It also confirms that the animation was done by Blur Studios, if there was any doubt before.
Thanks for sharing.
It's a bit like building a big building with a microscope.
Love this!

Love this!

I got chuckle of this:

How do you describe your game creators? Suggests inspirations may have betrayed something more about the second edition of the game?

In addition to the initial animation got a lot of screenshots from the game to further inspire me. I must admit that I got when they saw salivation. I knew it would be a game in the style of Dungeon & Dragons and the first part is well known for its high level of difficulty.

Dark Souls: In the style of Dungeons & Dragons, well known for its high level of difficulty, may cause salivation.

I never noticed the engraving on the helmet. On one side is a dragon breathing fire, and on the other is a humanoid with what looks like another dragon at his side. If this is a prequel, I wonder if that's supposed to be Seath.

You sure it isn't a dragon breathing fire and a human with a serpent on his side?

Dude, I live in Milan (Italy) and never noticed that :

Walked around the "Duomo" two weeks ago and nothing... but when i saw that pic I immediately thought of Anor Londo and of those damn knights with bows and arrows...

Mind blown, seriously...

Wait, is that Duomo in the pic? I lived in Milan briefly as a kid, and went there a bunch of times ^_^

Just to be clear: I was never trying to argue that From wasn't inspired by Berzerk since I don't know shit about Berzerk. I was only arguing that the examples provided were really bad. The ones on this page are a lot better though.

They are indeed! The wheel skeletons are pretty blatant.

I had no idea, this is fucking awesome.

MIND....BLOWN!!

I thought various styles of European architecture were common knowledge throughout the world, apparently I was wrong. Your minds being blown is sort of mind-blowing to me :)

OMAGAD. I visited the Chateau de Chambord twice back when I lived in france (if you're visiting the country, I would highly recommend visiting this castle, it's pretty awesome! Actually, while you're at it, you might visit some other ones as well) and I played a shitload of Darksouls and I never made the link between the two -_-. Shame on me.

...or maybe it's just this!

Is he only working on the trailer, or is he the core composer?

have they mentioned or discussed anything regarding the multiplayer / co-op system? I'd really like something more cohesive to allow the feel of adventuring with a friend

i don't. i think the current implementation is genius.

the way the world is broken into sessions would also work against this.

remember, some areas you can't access until you beat a boss. that means that both friends have to at least be on the same point storywise.

this method also forces you to get used to playing with strangers. so while this might suck in a LOT of instances, it forces you to think outside the box and get used to unfamiliar situations.

If you play with the same person you will become accustomed to the same methods, playing with strangers brings variety, uncertainty, and unique situations almost everytime.

EDIT: Unless you can do cool stuff like this with your peeps:

Ok. But I would.
I'm not even just saying it declined over time (and it did).
I'm specifically suggesting that -even ignoring its peaks- for what it is now I find it genuinely terrible, with very few redeemable moments.
Almost embarrassing to read, sometimes.

What happened? I stopped reading when they started fighting the Kushan (Guts was fighting this elephant/whale monster thing, in the last issue i have).
I think it started going downhill with the Harry Potter little girl character, though it still had good moments there.

I haven't been really following up on this one too much, and I am not sure if this information will even be revealed before the release of the game, but do we know if Motoi Sakuraba is returning to score Dark Souls II?

Personally, I loved the music in Dark Souls. I just wish there was more background music.

Yeah, the achievements don't mean much. I've done SL1 runs, beaten the game dozens of times and there's still weapons I haven't really used.

Yeah, maybe not dozens for me, but probably about 10. Using a different weapon makes you change up your strategy quite a bit, so it keeps it fresh.

Do you guys continue to play dark souls even after you have achieved everything the game has to offer?

Well, I haven't achieved everything in it. For example, I never rolled a dex build in either souls game, and I'm starting a new game, focusing on light armour and rapier/katana play, and I'm having a blast.

I'm all in for more co-op experiences in Souls games. Maybe make it even more rewarding or difficult if you decide to co-op a lot?

Interesting guys. I might replay this for the 6th time. I just dread going through some sections of this game :(

Demon souls had more consistent levels thats for sure. There is not a single level in demon souls I dread playing through.

I'd imagine he was just hired for the trailer. I sure hope Sakuraba is back on the soundtrack for DS 2...
I'm sure he will be. The Polish interview posted on the previous page says Stroinsky was only hired (by Blur Studios) for this one trailer (possibly more stuff later).

The trailers leading up to Dark Souls' release featured music that was very different (while still providing awesome pump) from that found in-game. It'll probably be the same this time around.

I really like the quietness the majority of the game has. It makes the boss themes and locations where there is music that much more meaningful. Especially the likes of
Ash Lake
. Just wow...

Yes.. pvp is awesome.Winning a 2 vs 1 with 4 hp remaining feels great. The DLC didn't even have achievements and it didn't affect my purchase of it.Do i wish it did? of course but Dark Souls is one of those games that hooks you in.

Yeah the quietness ambiance is great. There's this sound in Anor Londo like slight breathe holy fuck it gives me shivers. Also the sound in the archives when the snakemen pull the lever to release the octopus things i swear it puts me in a trance.I even looked it up on youtube to find out someone made a video of it.

Catacombs can be done in like 30 seconds, Blighttown has the shortcut, those are the places I like the least, and you can skip through them pretty fast. Tomb of the Giants is pretty annoying, but with light spell it's not bad, it has some shortcuts to get throught it in a couple of minutes too.

Some of these are super tricky, but other shortcuts are useful.

Not sure how more traditional co-op would work in the Soul games. The maps aren't really accommodating towards that kind of gameplay. Strangers who can't really communicate works because they can't really warn another player very quickly about an ambush, traps or specific boss attack. Even with all though, once some real synergy starts happening the difficulty basically disappears. Kind of surprised they let you run levels all the way through in co-op, it makes the challenge pretty trivial.

Now's a good time to probably start playing Dark Souls and maybe even Demon's Souls. I have those two sitting there, unplayed, because I am honestly always feel intimated every time I wanted to play them, heh.
