I created a new account with minus.com today to upload my NFL gifs and sort them into folders. I know it was a feature on minus but for some reason I don't know how to do this, I can't even figure out how to delete an upload. The blog tells me to use the manage files menu, but for the life of me I can't find it.

What the hell's going on? Have these features been removed? Why can't I sort gifs into folders?

Minus is a giant mess for me also. I can't figure these features out either. All I want is a nice online hosting site that I can organize my shit into folders instead of having a giant page of random bullshit I've uploaded. Is that too much to ask?

Also, what is it with people 'following' me. The hell?

I sort mine into folders. But yeah I agree, deleting stuff and sorting stuff is just way too difficult for a site like this. Basically after uploading just click on the new folder that's automatically created, then on the top right of the new window go to select items, select the item, then in the top right again go to actions and then move to....

if someone knows an easier way plz tell. Also deleting is the same, just go to delete instead of move.

also I love your avatar.

I hate how I can't drag a file to my uploads page and have it upload privately - as it is supposed to by my settings. Instead it publishes it to a new album, which I want, but one that's public and I can't change the viewing settings. It also won't show up on my uploads page, but a separate page. Huge pain in the ass.

Also, didn't Min.us have a save as zip option before? That seems to have totally vanished.

Thanks.

But I'm not sure how to select the options you mentioned, this is what I get when I upload a gif and what screen I get when I click on it.

I assumed I was just an idiot using this site. I'm so glad that other people are confused which doesn't make me feel so bad.

First of all, go to your name in the top right corner and click on my uploads. Bookmark that page since that is the best overview of your folders. Select all the pictures that you want to upload and drag them there or use the select images option on the left. Name your gallery and presto, you have a nice folder of your own. If you want to add more pictures to that folder later, just open that folder and drag & drop images like you've done before.

Great, thank you!

This was giving me such a headache.

And if you want to delete stuff you can either delete the whole folder by clicking the arrow in the lower right corner of the thumbnail of the folder or when you want to delete a single image you can enter the folder, click on the picture and click on delete. If you upload something without putting it in a folder or if it's a recent upload, eg a quick upload of an avatar or something, it's best to use the profile option which you can find in the drop down menu in the top right corner and look there for your image and click and delete it.

Edit: things I forgot to add about the galleries. You can make a gallery by hovering over the down arrow next to the big orange Upload button.

In the gallery you can delete the whole gallery by clicking on options on the left and click delete gallery. If you want to move pictures from one gallery to another or delete a few images quickly, click on select items in the top right, check the boxes of the images you need and hover over the Action button that pops up to select your action.

Yeah I'm not sure why things are so abstract on this site sometimes. Kind of sucks considering Minus is easily the best uploading site out there imo.

Minus used to sort randomly uploaded files into their own newly-created folder, but now the site just seems to upload them as this weird permanent standalone thing unless you sort them into a pre-existing folder. It's a weird design choice.

It's simply stupid.

I was mad when I realized I had a bunch of uploads locked down in that limbo forever.

If anyone has an alternative with folder management that is neither a mess nor is called Photobucket, I'd appreciate.

Flickr? :p

I haven't uploaded anything in a while. But I use sharex when I do so.

First, I create a folder for my new uploads, make sure that my user thing is authorized (I guess you have to do that every time you start sharex), update the folder list, pick the new folder, and then drag/drop all my new files. It's faster than doing it on the browser, too, since it maxes out my connection's upload speed.

Aside from that glaringly annoying design choice, I think the folder management on minus is OK. You just need to remember to create an empty folder before uploading, I suppose.

In any case, I personally wouldn't move to another hosting service since I'm already a tinypic exile. I would cry if I ever have to move my shit again. :lol

Minus, I think what you need to do. It's time for you to go.

It would suck though: I uploaded a ton of screenshots, which I removed from my PC to save space. I've used 4.4GB so far.

e: Make that 5.1GB.

How come the minus guy got banned anyway?

If I had to guess it was because he was pushing a product instead of participating with GAF outside of this specific thread related to his product. A quick glance at his posting history shows he posted 4 of his 136 posts were outside of the thread for the product he created. That is now a piece of shit.

Another round of broken threads like what happened when tinypic shit the bed. Ah the nature of the beast.

Yeah :( But I still use it because everything is on there
At least it's still fast.

I remember when they first started to support audio and video file playback on their site. I think they should have just left it.

Imgur's uploader has also started sucking. WTF is going on with these sites.

Maybe they don't want us using them so they don't have to pay bandwidth or something.

I emailed Minus on July 2 about why they removed the option to sort all uploaded files by uploaded file type.

John Xie, the Co-founder, replied:
It was removed as too many users had just different types of files making it also a bit confusing.

WHAT?! It was such a useful feature.

Also, I hate how they stopped updating their desktop application, and now they don't have it on their website at all. It worked fine most of the time, but it was a bit buggy. I use this third party thing to upload my stuff now...

I remember when the site used to be just a white screen that said drag and drop.

Oh god i just went on their facebook page and it's just users complaining about their accounts getting deleted. I better back up my files to Skydrive or Box.

I really hate the "new" layout, even though it's not really that new anymore. Why does it show me the stupid feed shit when I go to the main site? Why not my uploads immediately like before?

I wish i could do it straight from my cloud services but i need to upgrade to "premium" to be able to get a direct link and no way in hell i'm paying -_-

Yeah, I don't know how to do it from Google Drive, but my friend does it from dropbox. I guess there's no rush though, since minus is still working.

Dropbox allows you to share links freely, especially if it's a public folder.

I don't have issues with minus. Like I said, I use a third party uploader. I do wish their thumbnails were smaller, but I just zoom out with my mouse wheel.

You can direct link gifs from Dropbox? Tell me of this sorcery.

He probably does it from the web browser, but he links me jpg's all the time
If the files are in your public folder, then you can click on it and "copy public link"

I'm sad that Google Drive has no such option though

If your files get excessive traffic, Dropbox revokes your rights to link stuff for a bit. That's the thing that sucks about Dropbox.

Minus is so much better when it comes to linking things. I've only really used Minus, and I don't ever see myself switching to anything else. Sure things take a bit of getting used to, but once you figure it out it's amazing.

Yeah, that's true. Although we're all bashing minus right now, but some of it is so convenient. That screenshot from my last post was taken right in my browser using the minus extension.

I guess Minus is just trying to market to a different audience.

Flickr is complicated (plus it's blocked at work; any famous host is: Picasa, Tinypic etc.). I'll look into the sharex thing. Thanks.

But that annoyance defeats the whole "Minus" principle to me. It was good because it was just "drag an image here" and stuff was done, and if I cared enough, I could still organize it later. Now it's convoluted. Worst of it, if only we could just arrange/move those images later, it wouldn't be that bad, but, no, you can not move them at all anymore for whatever reason.

You can't move images? Like change the order or to a new folder?

You can. Did it this week. But not before accidentally deleting over 100 avatars.

The sometime godawful folder interface needs work but it's pretty much the perfect image-host outside of that. Though it's a shame, but understandable, that they removed the "download folder"-function.

Unless you do what Koodo said (create a folder before uploading one image), it'll be uploaded to your profile page and you can't get it out of there.

If you can, please tell me how, because I don't know.
