Game Freak To Evolve Pokémon World Further In 2013

Make an action pokemon game where you control the pokemon and have to use combos to activate different skills.

Would play the shit out of. If it's the same formula as the other games, I'll probably end up passing.

Don't listen to the crazy 3D people. Give me BBS. Big Beautiful Sprites. They really shouldn't move towards 3D before giving us some topnotch animated sprites.

With all that said, when do you guys expect the next generation of main games to come?

I wonder what exactly they consider the core aspects of the franchise that they can't play with.

My main main problem with the main games is how they can't get rid of the" Three starter, 8 Gym, Evil Team, Elite 4 and Champion" formula. What I liked most about B/W is how the twisted the order and the evil team got to be the closure act, but it's still chained to the very same plot formula from the first games. I wish we could have a main series game that, while keeps the "capture, train, battle and trade" aspect of the series, could have new plot points. A huge, non-league competition for example.

Gen 6 releasing in 2013 is pretty much given. But "Evolution"?

Full voice acting?
4 starters to choose from?
Disney renaissance animation quality 2D sprites instead of pixelated nostaligia?
7 pokémon to carry around?
Customize pokémon's look? (santa's hat on Abomasnow)
New eeveelutions?
New Pokémon types (alien type for instance)?
Weird places to travel like moon camp? Underwater city? Medieval town?
Elite four is now Elite Six?

I don't understand what he meant by "evolution", but thinking about GameFreak, they can't "evolve" series further than those.

A Pokemon MMO made by Gamefreak would go against the main idea of Pokemon and I honestly think a Pokemon MMO made by any Nintendo owned company would hurt the franchise in the long run.'

In regards to 3D its a tough choice because the change could easily turn off people depending on what they look like and how Japan feels about Sprites vs Models when it comes to this series. They could always use the power/space(thats a ton of models to have on a cart) they are saving on something else.

Mainline 3DS Pokemon RPG in 2013 confirmed by Xmas card!

Or maybe it's just Pokepark 3.

Its not really confirmed that the game is coming out in 2013, just that the company will be working hard this year. I wouldn't be surprised to see a new Pokemon game next year though.

Evolving the Pokemon world further, eh? I assume this means adding more depth/a new mechanic of some sort that plays a huge role in the next games, and not just another generation or a full 3D game. I really hope they don't make fusion a regular occurrence among Pokemon. Something different, but also containing a lot of depth. Different battle system? I would not know how to react, nor am I really expecting that big of a change, either... Hmm...

Sure, I have seen some great designs, but most of them suck.

Yeah, no.

But all three of those are awesome.

The Monster models in Pokedex 3D Pro are wonderful and we are definitely getting them for Generation VI and I can not wait. Along with this we should be getting some pretty cool backgrounds for during the fights, maybe the environments will be more interactive or involved in the fights somehow.

it is time to add 3D to the next generation of pokemons. Don't let those awesome pokedex 3d models rot, Gamefreak

Krokorok scoffs in the general direction of Gen V haters.

Does GameFreak have no ambition?

Whether or not you enjoy the way the games are, I'm more curious what it's like for them as developers.

Do they genuinely enjoy not having to change very much, or do they actually have serious discussions about changing things but always end up deciding that things are better the way they are? Or are they just so burdened by the enormity of the Pokemon brand that they can't afford to take risks?

Anyone know how many people work on the mainline Pokemon titles?

I'd rather they stick with this, as every other time a hyper-successful dev house goes for "evolutions" to stay "relevant" they go into the monkey-see, monkey-do slushbox format that restrains the industry.

I'd like a Pokemon XD sequel.

Or at least let the composers do the mainline battle music!

I'd be happy if they stopped taking steps back with every new generation. I still don't know why their touch-screen functionality is worse in B/W2 than HG/SS, or where L=A has gone, or why my Pokemon sprites don't follow me around any more. Why does that stuff disappear instead of getting built on with every new game?

Greatest possible evolution of the Pokemon series? Make it so the trees I Cut down stay Cut down.

PC PokeBox interaction could use some work as well. It becomes extremely tedious using it especially when you have a lot of pokemon in there.

Am I bad for wanting Nintendo to lose the franchise so it could end on smartphones?
They're not tapping a fraction of Pokemon's potential.

yes, you're bad

oh well

They treat the franchise like shit even though it's second only to Mario in gaming as a whole. Completely ignore it during the media events, hell it's not even featured in Nintendo Land when stuff like Pikmin is.

I clearly don't understand the legal details but if possible the Pokemon Company should take them to court and try to get the rights for it back. Then they put in on iOS/Android and see the millions come.

Maybe you should stop playing the games because the games are clearly not for you.
Also the reason the Pokemon Company doesn't leave Nintendo is because the games make all parties involved a lot of money.

If they do release it in 2013, I wonder when exactly. Monster Hunter 4 hits in the summer, which could be as late as August, even September, so perhaps Nintendo will go back to the November release frame of GS/RS.

maybe because Pokemon is a 2nd party IP? Nintendo can't just use it anytime they want, they'd have to get GameFreaks permission.

Besides other IP's like Kirby and Starfox didn't make the cut either.

Pretty crazy to think that MH4 and pokemon could be releasing within months of each other. If it happens the 3DS is going to put up some incredible numbers next year.

Surely those nice models they made for Pokedex 3D Pro are going into the Gen VI games.
Anyway I have a feeling April or May 2014 is a likely release period.

I love the games, they are the perfect mobile game. But do you seriously think the series is going in the right direction? The games are still fantastic because the formula itself is the digital equivalent of cocaine, but they could be made a lot better. People in this thread already mentioned the constant stripping of features from previous versions. The graphics barely changed, all things considered. Online features are good for Nintendo games, which means they're not nearly as good as they can be.

These games will be so much better if they were on an always-connected, always-with you device. Think about it - asynchronous battling and trading.

It's strange, I don't see why GameFreaks and the Pokemon Company should have any objections. Seriously, not having Pokemon in Nintendoland is like not having Donald Duck in Disneyland.

I do think the idea of pokemon on smartphones sounds fantastic (and touch screen controls actually really suit the franchise) but what you're doing about is impossible so there isn't much point discussing it.

I do think it would be very smart of GF to release some sort of pokemon app on smarthphones. A simple game or demo to increase awareness of the franchise. Simple things like pokewalker or pokedex maybe.

and then people will buy trillions of Pokemon on iOs leaving the console versions to rot, because who's going to spend 20 times the price for that game?

not sure what's best for Nintendo

You mean like that Pokedex 3D app that was recently released before and costs more than the 3DS version?

gen 6 in 2013 is pretty much happening. we didn't know anything about gen 5 going into 2010 and the games were released in september in japan.

i'm surprised there's no group of people who like the middle gens and dislikes the oldest and newest gens. it is always newest vs oldest. me thinks old folks should stop ripping on the latest pokes.
