What's ugly as fuck? Animal Crossing? 3DS? What? But this AC seems to be the turning point of the franchise...

The 3DS itself. It might be a good game but I don't think you can take Japanese sales trends as meaning much in the west anymore.

Wii U will likely surpass Vitas userbase very soon.

Yeah that's what i meant. One could argue that Wii U's userbase is too small for the port, but by the time it sholud be done, one would expect it's at acceptable levels.

Vita's userbase is a non-factor here, if the porting really is as easy as Sony says it is.

The games being different genres probably had a big effect on it.

Umbrella Chronicles was planned from the beginning, so it wasn't a bad decision per se. The bad decision was to keep developing on-rail shooters after seeing that people on Wii were hungry of Resident Evil, given RE4 sales but also Rebirt and 0 sold quite well for being straight ports.

Yeah, i dont think that Umbrella Chronicles was a bad decision. It could have sold great, Capcom had to try before they knew for sure. It would have been interesting to see how a more classic RE game would sell (a new developed game that is, not a port).

Absolutely.

Yet, it still baffles me how they managed to - basically - nullify the RE4-effect with Umbrella Chronicles. :-\

They had two halves of a good idea that they failed to combine into an actual good idea. Instead we got two mediocre ideas: Resident Evil rails shooter and an awful remake of Dead Rising that played like Resident Evil 4.

The sad part is that Kawata pitched Umbrella Chronicles in 2 ways: as a rails shooter and playing like RE4. Capcom approved the rails shooter.

Gotcha. Well according to developers wii u ports can be done very quickly as well.

Actually from what capcom producers said umbrella chronicles was originally going to be a 3rd person RE4 style game until they decided that it would be too difficult for wii owners and that on rails would be better. Based on comments, it sounds like they were originally going to do something like resident evil revelations where it was a 3rd person shooter with an episodic structure before they early on switched it to on rails.

2nd third-party game for Wii U (Japan) in 2013 announced

Tank! Tank! Tank! (Package version) is releasing on 21st Feb 2013.
http://www.bandainamcogames.co.jp/corporate/press/release/58/pdf/20121225.pdf

But the download version will be available tomorrow (26th Dec).

They apply App Store model this time. It breaks the retail version into 11 packs. The basic pack is free of charge: consists of 3 stages with play limit 3 times per day. There are 10 more paid DLC packs available later on. There is no play limit for the paid DLC.

Retail version is selling at 5040 yen while each DLC for download version is 200 yen.

Edit:
http://www.famitsu.com/news/201212/25026539.html

From Famitsu, only VS map selling at 200 yen, other DLC varies from 600 yen to 2200 yen (story mode).

Two copies sold? That's not a bomb guys, stop trolling!!!
Do you remember the title during SCEJ conference at TGS when the cameraman basically fell asleep and we just saw the big PS logo on the wall? Yes, I'm talking about Gundam Breaker, for PS3 and Vita.

Well, it seems that in this week's Famitsu issue they confirmed the game just for PS3, while the Vita version is not confirmed anymore.

Plus, Bandai Namco announced a Pretty Cure dancing game. For Wii. No words.

That would be surprising, given Namco's overall Vita support at this point. Perhaps the PS3 version just proved unexpectedly difficult to port down?

I'm a but surprised that this game is seeing a release so close to Animal Crossing. I wonder if it will help or hinder the game's sales.

Seeing how wildly popular New Leaf is at the moment, i can't see any other scenario where FL gets destroyed at launch.

Confirmed in what way? Only the PS3 version listed in the index page?

I bet some Sonic and Final Fantasy are planned for 3DS but yes, they really shifted on social / mobile games (in fact, they have always been present in the mobile phone sector, but now we have GREE, mobage, etc. also).

Isn't DQVII remake on 3DS though? That seems pretty important to me. XD

Square Enix has something like 50 games on DS over its lifespan. 3DS is seeing a way smaller support from them.

Shunning? Square Enix is almost fully devoted their teams to FF14 and they have their likely 2nd biggest retail game of the year (maybe 1st if Lightning Returns super bombs) exclusive to the 3DS. Sega barely exists anymore to begin with at retail. They are committed to digital. They also just released a mainline Kingdom Hearts entry this year for the platform which is a lot more than you could say for the DS. This isn't some contest. They're going to to release stuff where they feel they can make a lot of money.

True but what about Sega?

What about Sega? You realize how much they've contracted since last gen? They barely have any games announced for anywhere.

True but what about Sega? I know Sega are going through hard times but as we have seen with other 3rd party titles, the 3DS is a great outlet which can generate healthy sales. It wouldnt cost Sega a fortune to produce games for the 3DS.

DQ 7 is a bigger deal than ff13-3

3DS hasn't even completed its second year, it seems to soon to say these things. Not that I doubt it'll release far less games, also due to a changed market, but it's just too soon.
