343 has expressed interested, but MS went the truck route.

(i think)

It's weird. 140 characters suck.

Paging Mr. DiGiovanni to GAF.

Also, 343/Virgin is giving away a lot of prizes to many people of different skill tiers with this "tournament" open to everyone, no entrance fee, convenient. Just taking the other side of this whole thing, you can really see the appeal of running this thing. Don't know why there's exclusivity involved though.

Because money changed hands. I would be very surprised if it weren't a paid promotion one way or the other, and with that comes some measure of exclusivity. Makes some amount of business sense to not slap an MLG playlist in there when you've got what is essentially an advertising agreement for a competing tournament.

I just looked at the codfish thread. It looks just as miserable as this thread, except those people are still playing that game. Weird dynamic.

Most of them are actually mad at themselves that they didnt play better and feel the need to get back on and get better. Its not a mad at the game because its shitty thing.

Moneyyyyyyyyyyyyy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This must be an on-going thing then. I doubt we'll see the last of this Virgin Gaming stuff with our Halo 4. Hopefully whatever comes later will be something I care about.

Man, I gotta do something about my local scene. Find out if it's there or just make one myself.

I wonder how much people would flip if the winner of the truck got it impounded for like $250 and just bought copies of every CoD game with it.

Wait, I wasn't aware that the Infinity Challenge was part of the deal with Virgin? That's what Giovanni's referring to? Halo 4 might not be on the MLG circuit because Microsoft have a deal with Virgin over the Infinity Challenge?

Sounds, oddly predictable.

I loved Assembly. Great map.

Also, Black Ops 2 sucks. It can have all of its NEATO RANKS AND SPECTATOR MODE but the gameplay still sucks.

In my opinion

Difference being the whole live tournament winner is a cut and dry thing. With the "Infinity Challenge" there's so much room for cheating; multiple people playing on one account, flooding player's IPs to knock them offline, then just general feeding in game.

When I wanna know who the best is, the actual best, online has never mattered. It's always about the live events.

Always.

Yup, totally agree. I'm just saying I can see the appeal of this whole thing from 343's point of view.

Basically Virgin Gaming is the absolute worse company at running tourneys, they have announced but not gone through many big tourneys like Madden to last years Battlefield 3 1.6 million dollar tourney.

Basically this partnership has killed any kind of big potential tourneys outside grassroots stuff.

Not like MLG's snuffing out of grassroots tournies has been any better in terms of ethics. I'm enjoying this because now the shoe is on the other foot and they don't like it. Company wise, not community wise. I can't really feel sad for a company that went around saying before that they wanted to be the ONLY place for pro gaming in the United States.

Non-company specific hardcore playlist please.

Yea thats your opinion. Blops II is fast as shit fun gameplay.

Meanwhile I'm trying to enjoy Halo 4 and the only playlist that looks decent with 2 people is SWAT. After a few more perhaps I can do a CTF. I might get bored and fall asleep before I get teammates though.

Gonna absolutely disagree with you there. In my opinion, MLG is pissed because they wanted to prove to the Halo community that they still cared. Then, they find out they can't, even after a stellar turn out in Dallas, because Microsoft has signed a deal with Virgin Gaming.

MLG knows their roots, the Halo community has a love/hate relationship with MLG, and that relationship is justified. This year, again, in my opinion, was the year MLG wanted to show the Halo community some love. Regardless of the condition of the game or the community, this is a slap in the face to MLG. MLG, as a company, loves Halo... they want to love Halo. And now, because of a Microsoft deal with Virgin Gaming, they can't show Halo any love.

For over a decade, literally, MLG has put their foot in their mouth and ate the bill for the Halo community, now, when their in a position to pay back the Halo community for sticking with them through thick and thin, they, legally, can't.

They had so many goddamn chances to do that and blew it. I think the last straw should have been them not even bothering to get chairs for people to watch games. Amongst the load of other things they pulled.

This is a company that has continually ignored it's own community and Halo and for some reason people keep going back to them like Rihanna to Chris Brown. They get rewarded with their own playlist in games and free advertisement even after they cut the game from their tourneys and actively block their community from updating the MLG playlist even after corporate has moved on.

It's all about money and Virgin outspent them. The same thing MLG did to their competitors before. They're big boys with money from angel investors, they'll be fine.

They didn't have chairs BECAUSE they did a favor for Halo. Venues are booked a year in advance. They moved the layout of the entire venue in order to have Halo there. They couldn't have chairs because they added Halo AFTER the venue had been booked and having chairs in front of the door would have broken fire code.

Again, MLG had to SCRAP to afford Halo in the past. Reason being, little to no support monetarily from Bungie and MS at the time. MLG foot the bill for Halo for a decade, then after showing years of support for their (Microsoft's) game, they go and sign a deal with Virgin Gaming.

It was Microsoft that made the exclusive deal with Virgin Gaming.

343 is Microsoft. I've got 5 words for you:

14 Day Buy and Play

Words out of my mouth.

:lol amazing

So MLG does a significant MP reveal/tourney to get hype up for Halo 4 and then Microsoft gives the competitive rights to Virgin? This is the Windows ME of Halo games.

They also announced ranks at MLG!

Dang, that was a really cool event. I remember Thursday night I actually got to sit down and chat with Doug, Will, and Kevin and talk about the MP stuff. That was incredible, and you could tell how proud they were of the game too, and they LOVED the tournament atmosphere as well.

When I wasn't casting and snip3down's POV was up on screen, and he was going on a tear, I just remember Will and Doug geeking out over the kills he was pulling off. Probably a memory I'll have forever.

I actually feel guilty a lot of the time complaining, because I was given the chance behind closed doors to see how much work and passion they put into the game, and at the time none of the real bugs were known, so I still had a lot of hope that upon launch, everything would be cool.

I'm sure they didn't even see the amount of things that would go astray with the map pack, specialization codes, and everything else.

Big shout out to those guys, for sure. <3
