A good choice for #1, but the ME3 ending being so high and Vita beating out a criminal scam in War Z shows how misplaced people's priorities are on here.

Agreed. Definitely shows highly now.

1. The newest hardware of one of the major manufacturers being a financial failure and the ending to one of the more popular franchises of this generation being a total disaster are probably more relevant to a predominantly console audience than a scam game on PC.

2. The whole War Z debacle played out relatively late, I only heard about it after I put in my vote and didn't bother going back to change it.

Yeah WTF is Vita doing so high? War-Z was a downpoint for the gaming medium in quite a while.

To be fair, awareness has to be part of it because you're talking about number of people who rank it the worst thing. I, for one, hadn't heard of it until this thread, while there is a new 'Vita is doomed/dead' thread every few days. I'm sure 38 studios is only at the top because it was a high profile studio run by a pro baseball player famous in his own right.

The best handheld ever released makes it in at 4 because it hasn't sold well? If it was a crappy piece of hardware with a shit line-up of year one games then I'd understand its placing, but naaah, crappy hardware and a shit roster of games don't belong in the same sentence as the Vita.

Same deal with the Dreamcast really. A commercial flop, but an awesome fucking console regardless, and about as far removed as a "fail" as you can possibly get.

Not sure 38 Studios should be number one. Sure, they were literally the largest fail, but who had really heard of them before Amalur imploded?

Vita is surely the largest in the scheme of things.

The best handheld ever released

Come on. From a tech standpoint, sure, but I bought one at launch and have played three games on it since then. If you have a PS3 you automatically have access to superior versions of well over half the library. They need more stuff like Gravity Rush and Space Blobs and less small-scale versions of console titles. The DS was the greatest handheld system of all time precisely because its library was full of unique stuff you couldn't play any other way.

The Vita is a beautiful piece of hardware from top to bottom, but IMO anyone trying to claim the library is up to snuff is just attempting to justify the money they spent. I think it has earned its place on the list.

Or, maybe in their opinion, they actually liked the software lineup. I personally think it's one of the strongest launch year lineups I've seen. Opinions are like assholes...

38 Studios was a Greek tragedy complete with individual actors making big mistakes that caused tangible individual suffering beyond just job losses for themselves and others. As humans we relate to that much more easily than to collective mistakes of a semi-faceless corporation that are more complex and data-oriented in nature.

The Vita? Really?

Really?

Established Franchises:

Uncharted
Metal Gear Solid
Ninja Gaiden
Persona
Rayman
LittleBigPlanet
Mortal Kombat
Lumines
Wipeout
Disgaea
Assassin's Creed
Need For Speed
Resistance
Hot Shot's Golf

New Franchises

Zero Escape
Gravity Rush
Tales From Space

Cross Play/PSN Titles

MLB
PS All Stars
Ratchet & Clank:
Sine Mora
Retro City Rampage
Sound Shapes
Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath
Super Stardust Delta

All in less than a year. I am not trying to say all of these games have universal appeal, but there is a lot there to appeal to almost anyone's tastes. Many console/handheld launches have gone a year without having that many established franchises released.

If you like ports like I do, yeah, it is great. I think about half my Vita library is all ports, excluding PS1 games.

No offence but all you just did is prove VITA is a failure with your list wars. All i see is ports and port downgrades with acouple original IPs that are not system sellers.

You consider selling millions upon millions of your game, and having less than 1% of the owners bitch on the internet about the ending, a total disaster?

Come on.

Vita being that high is the real FOTY. I was disappointed with its E3 showing, but it was redeemed at gamescom and the PS+ support and crossplay stuff have been fantastic.

Vita is surely the largest in the scheme of things.

Some of the hundreds of 38 Studios employees laid off yesterday were hit with a second round of bad news this week when they were told that homes they thought the company had sold for them hadn't been, and that they may be stuck with a second mortgage, Polygon has learned.

One former employee said they discovered this week that their Massachusetts home, which they had been told was sold last year, actually hadn't been. The bank contacted them this week to ask why they mortgage wasn't being paid.

38 Studios laid off all 379 employees, 288 of them in Rhode Island, yesterday afternoon in a terse email. Sources tell Polygon that the company had not been communicating with employees, or paying them, for nearly a month prior to the mass layoffs.

There's nothing about the Vita that compares to that.

Come on.

I consider the backlash which caused them to release DLC to change the ending and the bad publicity worrying for the Mass Effect franchise, BioWare and EA. I personally didn't vote for it, I was just trying to explain why others might think it was worse than the War Z thing.

I wish Persona 4 Arena would be higher. Not a lot of people care about region locking after all.
Considering that region locks were an inarguable fact of gaming life for so long, I'm surprised that many people considered that game to be much of an issue at all in the first place.

On a sales metric, yeah

In Japan in particular anyway. 3DS is about to outsell in the last 5 weeks what Vita has sold LTD.

Last 4 weeks combined:

3DS - 1.109.204
Wii U - 557.901
PS3 - 157.405
PSP - 134.439
PS Vita - 57.817
Wii - 35.659
Xbox 360 - 5.882

I wish Persona 4 Arena would be higher. Not a lot of people care about region locking after all.

I wish it was higher too. I think people in America don't really care since they got to play the game and people in PAL land have already forgotten the game exists. The game still isn't out here and when it does come out it's going to bomb and sell like 5 copies.

It was also the first exposure to the cracks and plastered smiles of "games journalism". You had people calling bioware out on their laziness and lack of polish regarding ME3, while "journos" rallied around Bioware and called anyone with any criticism "entitled whiners".

Yeah, the ME3 ending itself, while dumb any way you slice it, was merely the symptom. The journalists doing backflips to take Bioware's side and not their readers' is the disease.

Or... Maybe the ending isn't as bad as the zealots claim? And perhaps it was a well crafted game that was legitimately placed high on GOTY lists? Give me a break with the hyperbole.

Very well-deserved #1.

I understand the War Z thing is pretty bad, but I didn't hear about it before voting in the thread started (and even then, the game was never on my radar to begin with).

Also, amused at Diablo 3 being at #7. Goddamn, Blizzard, you done goofed.

ANOTHER Vita thread???

No? It was a distant 4th place, even if it was supposed to be a lot lower. Funny how there's been so little talk on the actual winner of this. The studio that swindled tax payers out of hundreds of millions of dollars and hundreds of jobs.

The ending was about as bad as it could have imaginably have been. From a gameplay perspective (press one of these three buttons!) it betrayed the core of the entire trilogy. Not a single decision you make in any of the three games has any bearing on the final outcome in the slightest. And to top it off, the three choices you are given are pretty, well, dumb.

The ending was literally: "Hey, how do we wrap this up?" "Fuck if I know!"

Note: I don't actually care about the ending or how bad/not bad it may have been. My concern was with the press stuck up Bioware's butt and doing basically the opposite of what journalism is supposed to do.

As for the Vita, I think it's more missed opportunities than anything else. A bunch of port jobs with the occasional moment of original brilliance, and one shitty Call of Duty game, won't cut it.

The Vita isn't dead yet, but 2013 will be a make it or break it year.

Vita is a great system, with poor marketing. But you're right, hundreds of millions of dollars down the drain from taxpayers money is in a league of its own.

um, lots of people lost their jobs and they were kept in the dark about the fallout. very bad.

the rest are relatively minor in comparison.

vita? I don't think it should even be top 5.
