What light. Woah.
Its not very festive but I have finally been allowed to go into one of the buildings on an old MOD site where the Tube alloys project (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tube_Alloys), did allot of early work on the atomic bomb before it was moved to america and became part of the Manhattan project. There had been an endangered species of bats roosting there during the summer ( the reason I wasn't allowed in the building), and they had left behind a large amount of shit so the smell in parts of this building was interesting to say the least.

Climbed a local mountain yesterday (glorified hill to the rest of the world), finally a change of venue. Almost got lost too when I took the wrong turn at a trail split. Well, not lost since I was on a trail but my reaching the summit and getting back to the car before dark was timed in a way where such a diversion would have sucked really bad. Cold sweat was building when I looked back and realized I was on the peak of another hill when I should have been going down the original hill. Obviously everything turned out ok. The pictures!

In the same boat! Except mine is not quite as nice as yours (it's a Sony a57). I'll post some pictures once I get back to school and actually have decent upload speeds again. In the meantime, can someone teach me about lenses? I got the kit 18-135mm lens, and I also got a 85mm f2.8 telephoto lens, which is really fun, but I don't actually understand the technical details.
Took this in Colombia in October, but only just got around to "fixing" it. It's actually composed of two photos I took in quick succession as we passed in a van. I missed a decent composition with both, but stitched together holds up okay.

Has anyone thought about what to do with the latest photography challenge?
I'm thinking that people could have possibly got some good smile photos over Christmas and it's a shame to let the challenge die. I think we should give it until January 15th or so to give more people a chance to enter.
Anyway I've submitted an entry:

Everyone in this thread pumps out really amazing shots and best of all i love the variety. Well yesterday i had the chance to take pictures of the wife and picked one that i really liked. For some reason, i am having trouble with color proofing on my system. It's SUCH a pain in the ASS. The color appears different when using windows photo viewer, different in PS and on the web too. But alas, i think i have found some consistency:
I was trying to convey which object in the picture, the woman or fruit, is truly forbidden. I wish it was more focused though, ah well

Color looks great on my LCD, good skin tones, the blue in her shirt pops. The reds are a little muted though. Really like the crop too, unconventional for that kind of shot but works extremely well.
That is good to know and thanks! Would you happen to know if i should use "proof colors"(set to sRGB) when editing in photoshop? Because the picture in my previous post does not reflect me editing it with "proof colors" enabled, and looks the same on the web and in PS on my monitor. However, when i enable "proof colors", the picture seems more washed out and less vibrant.

Typically I edit my photos in ProPhoto colorspace for the expanded latitude of gamut and then convert to sRGB for web viewing. Unless you're personally working off a wide gamut monitor I'd always convert to sRGB.
I'm unsure why 'proof colors' would wash it out when editing, that's usually indicative of an application not reading the correct color profile of an image. But my knowledge of color profiles and proofing is almost nonexistent when it comes to serious print work and critical color work.

That second shot is not handheld unless Damaged is a robot.

first and third are hand held, second was on a tripod with a remote release. The third shot was actually out of a car window while moving, just got lucky.All three are beautiful dude!Correct
