PAL Charts - Week 52 - Wii for art thoU?

Those consoles have tons of games that obviously many people enjoyed and therefor bought. If there was nothing for SmokeyDave, fine. But how is that "geting away with mediocrity"?
He's talking about hardware and services not games.He thinks that the resent Nintendo systems don't offer anything hardware/services wise that's worth buying.

Then how'd you miss (in hardware and services).

Hmmm, maybe because I don't get that line of thinking. I play games, not hardware and services. Sorry then. If there is desirable content on a platform, people (me included) get that platform. If not, why should one care for the "hardware and the services".

Got it, hardware and services...

The conversation is about why someone would buy one console over another or a multi-platform game on one platform over another. Hardware and services are a deciding factor for why many people now don't even consider Nintendo as an option. Any company that still links purchases to hardware instead of the user deserves zero respect. From me anyway.

Don't worry about it man, I'm not expecting them to build their stuff around me and they obviously do what they do very well. I was just owning up to grinding that axe ;)

Yes, just hardware and services.

I know, I know. No hard feelings, I'm quite aware that the low resolution of your 3DS screens haunts you in your dreams ;)

Germany is different is so many ways. Why do you think Germany is PC-centric, moreso than any other country? I mean in terms of culture etc.

Germany never had an arcade culture, because gaming machines were treated as gambling machines, due to a youth protection law in the 80s.

"Elektronisches Bildschirm-Unterhaltungsspielgerät ohne Gewinnmöglichkeit" = gaming cabinet. They were all 18+ since then and you couldn't find them in the public. Plus they very expensive in comparison to other countries.

This might be one of the reason why the homecomputers were so huge here and consoles didn't take off in the 16 bit era.
Everybody started with a c64. Germany was homecomputer land No.1 and Giana Sisters was more played than Mario. From c64 -> Atari ST/Amiga -> MS DOS is a logical transition. There are some typical german genres that started in the homecomputer era that transitioned to PCs, that never existed on consoles. For example thos economy sims.

Another point might be, that violence in entertainment was strictly regulated. Many console games could not be bought by kids, but on the computers the kids could pirate everything.

Digital content is relatively weak, because Germany has one of the lowest credit card distribution rates, but I don't think that this is the main point, because germany has always been a strong PC land and that is because of the homecomputer history. Gaming pretty much started here on computers.

Totally depends on sales in the Top 100 though. It's unlikely that Germany significantly differed from UK sales, if anything - they may have been slightly better - but the top 100 we're looking at here is for the whole year, and as posters pointed out those sales milestones in parenthesis are lower limits.

Wii U was on sale for about 3.5 weeks in that time. If bundles are included in the charts and number 100 is say ~30-50k

I think bundles are not included, they may include them in the monthly charts, but in the former years this bestselling list was not sorted by sold units but by revenue. At least the one that got leaked. And it should contain only games that were released in 2012, games from 2011 are excluded. But they may have changed that, I don't know.

In most cases, that should lead to the same placing, but not for all titles, handheld titles will be a bit lower in that list. If they still do it that way, bundles make no sense because you can't calculate the revenue.

Number 100 is most likely not ~30-50k, it should be lower.

Does UK gaming trends usually match worldwide trends?

-The UK is quite different to Europe.

Les meilleures ventes de jeux vidéo Semaine 51 (France)
1. COD : Blacks ops 2 (PS3)

2.Assassin's Creed 3 - Bonus Edition (PS3)

3.FIFA 13 (PS3)

4.COD : Blacks ops 2 (Xbox 360)

5.Far Cry 3 (PS3)

-British consumers have different tastes,spend more money on video games and are less price sensitive than Europeans and Paladians.The downside is that the console cycles deteriorate earlier and faster in the UK.Basically,UK mirrors US.

HW+SALES.jpg

UK+EU.jpg

Console sales down by a third in 2012 (UKIE/GfK Chart-Track)
-Home console sales were down by 34.1 per cent

-Xbox 360 was still the No.1 selling console by a significant margin

-PS3’s annual decline was less severe than its competitors.

SCE UK
When you look at the UK market, it's easy to say that current consoles are fading. But if you look at PS3, it's holding up a lot better than others

But if you look at continental Europe, PS3 hasn't even peaked yet

(1st Oct 2012)

SCE France
With the overall French video games market down six per cent compared to 2011, the PS3 ecosystem is likely to be the only source of growth for the sector in 2012

(1st Oct 2012)

-On a different note,Sony/MS fans should not mock Nintendo.

HD consoles did not show any sign of life on EUR/PAL until 2008 (GTA IV,MGS4,Xbox 360 price drop),and did not take off until September 2009 (PS3 Slim).Since current consoles have hundreds of games in development, enough room to cut prices and given the long development cycles,there is little reason for optimism when it comes to PS4/Xbox 3.In other words,the first 2-3 years are going to be painful to watch.

European Hardware Sales (Unit: Million)
2006

PS2 --> 6.0 (SRP 129 Euro)

360 --> 2.0

2007

PS2 --> 3.8 (SRP 129 Euro)

PS3 --> 2.8

360 --> 1.9

EA’s ‘FIFA 13’ has not been seen at No1 since week 42, 2012 but climbs back to the top of the podium for a 5th week at No1 as the game whose sales decreased the least over the December sales season (-49%) – ‘FIFA 13’ has still never been outside of the Top 4 since release 15 weeks ago. Ubisoft ended the year at No1 with ‘Far Cry 3’ and the title drops 1 place to No2 (-65%). Activision Blizzard’s ‘Call of Duty: Black Ops II’ (-65%) remains at No3, Square Enix remain at No4 with ‘Hitman Absolution’ (-65%) and EA remain at No5 with ‘Need for Speed Most Wanted’ (-59%). 2K/Take 2’s ‘Borderlands: Game of the Year Edition’ released back in week 41, 2010 becomes a sub £10 game on 360/PS3 this week thanks to massive price promotion and re-enters at No10. The game was last seen on this chart at No40 back in week 40, 2012 and No10 this week is its best ever chart position and only the 4th time it has been within the Top 40. Warner’s ‘Batman: Arkham City – Game of the Year’ enters the Top 40 for the first time at No29 (+6%) thanks to some modest price activity, as does Warner’s ‘Mortal Kombat: Komplete Edition’ at No40, thanks mainly to a heavily discounted PS3 version.

Considering postion 3 (Black Ops 2) was less than 37,767 last week, and most games' sales seem to be down this week, I doubt there's much of a difference in numbers between 24 and 30.

Ah! I assumed because the Week 1 chart had been posted a couple of posts up, he was referring to data from that week!

Edit: What am I missing with that EG tweet? The chart is a few posts above, isn't it? So it must be out somewhere.

Book of Spell is out of Individual top 40 (11th in PS3 Specific Chart).
And why are the UKIE All Formats Top 40 and Chart Track All Formats Top 40 different?

It'd be interesting to see how Vita and Wii U game sales compared considering they're both out of the top 40, but I guess their absence from the chart means we won't get any data on them.

Like watching two hobos fight in a back alleyway over who gets the knife to commit suicide with. 2 Dreamcasts at once may be too much for Gaming Board to bare.

NSMBU and Nintendoland still in the Value charts as are blops and Fifa Vita

Nintendoland even increased. NSMBU too. There's quite a big difference between Units and Value charts for Assassin's Creed III too.

I want the 3DS hardware sales for the last month.

Probably not so good in UK, but good in overall Europe. We shouldn't have to wait that much, though, since next Nintendo Investor Meeting is this month.

Can work out a rough maximum for the bottom of the individual formats chart based on the Wii SKU of FIFA 13 once we get the Guardian breakdown.

FIFA 13 PS3 SKU <31.8K in week 50; accounted for 32% of sales therefore:

FIFA 13 (all formats)
Week 50 = <99.4K
Week 51 +15% = <114.3K
Week 52 +1% = <115.4K

Week 01 2013 -49% = <58.9K

(someone correct me if I'm wrong with these numbers, thanks.)

Wii SKU has typically been around 5% so I'm guessing <3K at position 36 on the chart. Not sure when Guardian breakdown comes out.

What determines position on the value chart? Current price?
It's a revenue chart I believe.

Book of Spells had a fairly good run. Know quite a few people who got it for christmas, actually.

The tracking gives the impression it was a total dud in the UK taking into account the big marketing effort everyone kept talking about. Needed to show a lot better legs than it did.

COD:BO2 (PS3) - less than 14.729 (39%)

That's insanely low. Wow. Do we have any figures for Sonic Transformed at number 4? I was hoping it sold decently, but considering what the game in 6th position sold, well... :/

Guy that normally does PAL threads has kinda gone MIA it seems, so people are hesitant to pick up the sword.

Right now, the WiiU could be selling sub 4k or 3k numbers, maybe far worse. UK market at large has straight up fucking ignore its launch. That is some powerful fucking disinterest on show.

To be honest, I knew things were bad for the Wii U here at the moment, but I was still amazed that the games at 6-10 in the Wii U Top 10 are selling less than 378 copies each.
