Newcomer to the thread here, had to talk about it somewhere.

Steins; Gate 12-13

Holy shit. That escalated quickly.

I mean I figured they'd start actually time traveling eventually given how incredibly reckless then been with D-mails up till now (way to ruin Akihabara guys!) but I wasn't expecting the whole "keep retrying a scenario" thing already. The last way she died (getting pushed into a train by the kid) was kind of hilarious.

It does kind of annoy me that this is the one time Kyouma could pull the "no, I'm a time traveler and X is going to happen" and his friends would entirely believe him because they all built a damn time machine. Him not telling anyone anything and being all vague is kind of stupid. Hopefully that's the valuable lesson he will have learned by the time he gets a successful iteration off, if that's even possible.

Same with Suzuha who randomly pulled secret agent ninja moves in the previous episode and knows stuff, but just doesn't tell anyone anything of actual value besides cryptic warnings. Hopefully that reasoning gets explained.

Probably going to go watch 14 now before bed. Man, it was slow there for awhile (but enjoyable) but I wanna just keep watching and watching now.

Yes I know it was a joke about the Kamiya fiasco.

('@') goo goo

I get it, bad joke. My bad. orz

Oh my god blu-ray sets of Maison Ikkoku, Urusei Yatsura, and Ranma? Want so badly. Too bad there's zero chance these ever get released (fuck you forever Viz). In the unlikely scenario they're released in Japan I'd think long and hard about getting Maison Ikkoku and Urusei Yatsura.

*drool* Times like this I wish I weren't poor.

They were pioneers, don't mock their passion!

Someone painstakingly animated each bounce - they had to understand momentum and real breast bouncing physics, then adapt that information by taking just the important and best information - simplifying it into an idealized perfection! They poured their hearts into it and spent many late nights ignoring their wives doing so!

I've beeen away for a bit and haven't kept up with much anime news recently. I remember this season looking like it would be underwhelming, but what shows seem promising to watch besides Tamako?

For new stuff, Vividred Operation and maybe Senran Kagura.

There's also a lot of sequels/spinoffs if you liked their previous seasons: Haganai NEXT, ABK0048 next stage, Minamike Tadaima, Da Capo III, gdgd Fairies, Chihayafuru 2, Hetalia The Beautiful World, Cardfight Vanguard, Puchimasu (IdolM@ster), THE UNLIMITED Hyoubu Kyousuke (Zettai Karen Children)

Komugi-tan cosplaying as Mew Mew.
One of the very best things in the whole wide world.
Do you have the Komugi figure? I think I can make you jealous if you don't.

After the last six episodes or so of sustained mediocrity this was a really nice comeback for the series. It's nice having the focus on the fairies and Watashi herself, instead of gimimcky chapters defined by gimmicks and throwaway characters. Best episode so far, wonderful stuff.

As for the episode itself, probably the most adorable depiction of societal collapse ever. The fairies in all their twisted, reflective glory emulate human traits but for the most part lack the individual impulses of the latter, and in their groupthink hunt for entertainment and gratification they swiftly deforest and ruin the island, unchecked by the narrator herself, who knows better but is lulled by spidersilk gowns and the feeling of power. I think the parallels are clear--they even build Moai statues--and the whole thing is set-up early on by the removal of the more individualist 'pushover' fairy, checking them down to six in number. It's just so nicely scripted and planned out, all within the confines of the TV broadcast.

I was pretty down about the show so far but the last few should be a treat, if it can keep up the kind of unsettling, absurd humor displayed here.

Ok, so I actually finally watched some stuff again!

Hunter x Hunter 61
Oh boy, oh boy. I'm really remembering why I loved reading Greed Island so darn much. Such a fun arc. The basic rules are almost all set up now, so the real fun can begin. Remembering all the cool ways Togashi twisted the rules of the game around was so fun. Cannot wait to see it all again. Small complaint, I don't think I love Biscuit's voice. It may grow on me. We'll see. Interested to see how they handle her character here.

JoJo 13

Holy crap was this horrifying. Last episode was pretty brutal, but this was on a whole different level. Interesting how much the violence has escalated from part 1. Also feel like they're censoring a bit less as well. Still, absolutely fantastic. Was a bit worried about Sugita as Joseph at first, but he's really killing it. This show just keeps getting better and better.

Shinsekai Yori 14

Why is this show so damn inconsistent? We go from a boring, overly drawn out, weak episode to this. Last week spent a whole episode on something that could have wrapped up in 10 minutes. This week we have a really interesting, well paced, and brilliantly tense episode. I keep not being sure how to evaluate this show as a whole. When it's good, it's brilliant. When it's bad, it can be nearly unwatchable.

Crying Freeman 6

Hot damn, I guess persistence paid off. I didn't even really want to get to this one but figured I should for completion's sake and I'm glad I did. It's the best of all 6 OVAs. Everything about this was just plain better than the previous OVAs. Better direction, better musical direction, better story that flowed naturally, something not batshit crazy for a change, better animation, and it felt like a complete OVA rather than the sixth episode in a series. One could conceivably hop into this with the most rudimentary knowledge of the series and not be lost.

Admittedly, I may be giving this something of a pass as it really feels like it's channeling something by Kawajiri whose work I can't get enough of. Occasional eccentric villain, a disaffected Freeman drawn into events, the backdrop of a city at night and the restrained sexuality (compared to previous eps where any female was destined to get fucked and fall in love with Freeman) just reminded me of something like Wicked City or Goku: Midnight Eye albeit without the strong supernatural or scifi components of those two.

This addressed a lot of my previous complaints as well. Freeman is present but with a greatly reduced role. He's been built up as this invincible force of nature throughout so much of the point of view is through the episode's villain who is attempting to remove the upper echelon of the Yakuza with the help of the Russian mafia in order to advance his own status. Freeman's role is mostly in searching for a girl he accidentally comes across who just so happens to be the last positive memory of his life as Yo Hinamura. His supporting cast is conspicuously absent so there's no distracting out of place comic relief by Bayasan or unnecessary heroics by his wife. Given Freeman's search is very personal and so much of his characterization comes across with silent melancholy, I thought this was a great decision. The jp audio track also brought back the dual language stuff for that extra bit of authenticity. In the first OVA ep, Freeman and Koh would talk to one another in chinese so the girl couldn't understand. Similarly, the Russian mafia in this mostly speaks russian.

In short, I'm shocked I have nothing to complain about and how much I enjoyed this ep after the previous shitheaps in the Crying Freeman OVA series.

I think it was here that I realized this could be great. By virtue of a little depth of field, it seemed more effort had been expended in this ep than the previous two.

Crazy Eskimo assassin woman gave me that Kawajiri vibe as well.

Honestly, it's okay. I don't particularly care for any of the characters, so the heavy focus on Konatsu wanting to perform on a stage didn't grab me. The song at the end was pretty nice, though. Not really sure if I want to continue.

If by curves you mean bad art that's product of sending their B-team to work on some of the early episodes. I'd even bet this scene was outsourced to Tatsunoko, but I don't have the episode credits at hand.

I'm aware that it's a bad shot, ha, but curves are curves!

Is Manyuu Hiken-chou all hentai? Or was that nsfw stuff only for the specials?

Yah Tari Tari is weird. I like the girls, but it feels like there's no special moments to keep me going. Also, it feels like depressing things are going to happen, so I feel like holding it off.

Half of the things you say might make sense some of the time. Which is most of the time. Unless they don't. In which case they do.

I just want him to draw me more yuri porn. A little ego stroking can go a long way you know - but in this case it's true.

I could draw some for you if you so wish.
No doubt I owe you for something or other.

Nope.
I would love a komugi figure though.

Last couple episodes have been really exciting, although Alibaba's drama has been annoying at times. I generally enjoy this show though, even if most people have long since dumped it.

Shakugan no Shana II 02

It's another flash back, dream, something. I don't know.

Would be so much cooler if the girls ended up killing the MC via bandages, bento boxes, melon pans, whatever. If only.
