Spiritual successor to Nintendo Power, "Nintendo Force" announced

I hope they take advantage of the artists they have. Buying a magazine with art you can find and print from press.nintendo.com just hurt Nintendo Power's covers.

NWR already posted the Mutant mudds deluxe info so no reason for me to buy this now
I would have maybe thought about it if there was a subscription or if this wasnt so expensive.

Damn, $17 for the print version!? Even with coupon code HPSD that knocks a few dollars off, it's still too expensive. At $5, I'll probably get the PDF but will wait for impressions from others before I buy it.

Coupon code "HPSD" brings the cost down a bit. Came out to $16.69 total after shipping for the print and digital package.

Bought the digital version. Just did a quick skim, but I wish they did more to differentiate themselves from Nintendo Power. I know they want to pay "homage"' but it seems like a wasted opportunity to try some new ideas and have their own identity. Nintendo Power is dead, I don't see point in copying its design pretty much whole cloth.

I think if you are going to do a magazine nowadays, you have to thrive off of exclusive interviews, behind the scenes looks, and actual independent research reporting.

Just previewing and reviewing games just doesn't cut it.

Pretty much this. When I open EGM nowadays I pretty much just flip past the previews and reviews. My number one reason for still reading EGM is the big exclusive interviews in each issue.

In terms of looks and colors or how content is laid out? I thought most gaming magazines followed the same content layout. I remember PSM, NP, and Next Generation back in the day having the same layouts.

I'd like to hear from people buying the digital version, but I have to say if you're considering spending that much money on a print version of Issue 1, don't. Spend it instead on Ray Barnholt's wonderful Scroll, which is also sold through MagCloud: http://www.magcloud.com/browse/search?q=scroll&m=i

I'm still as far from sold as someone could possibly be on Nintendo Force; they're simply using NP's legacy and if that doesn't leave a bad taste in your mouth it should. There's no reason they couldn't have contributions from former NP staffers. None. It feels like a cash-in until they prove otherwise. And that charity bit? Yeah, notice how it doesn't say how much of the proceeds are going to whatever nebulous organization they've chosen? Wonder why. Prove me wrong, Nintendo Force! I like a lot of the names attached; build your own legacy.

Yeah, agree on this.
I'm buying the first issue of NF just in the digital version, and then I see how I like it.
Scroll is a wonderful magazine, I started by reading it when Ray was giving away the Pdf for free, and now I'm buying all the printed issue, one by one.

Like they used Nintendo Power as a template and just added a few things, namely more comics.

I'm pretty shocked that they went with a service that doesn't offer subscriptions. HP MagCloud? Yikes. This show they lack some basic business knowledge. And what charity do these proceeds go to? They never mention it. Poorly planned, poorly executed. This should have been a website like Polygon, something big and easily accessible. Do a paywall for exclusive content. Not this. This is not the way to go.

Holy crap! Today's real megaton is that more than two people can have the same first name.
I've bought the digital version.
The collector in me is tempted to go for the printed version, just because due to the price, it could become quite rare in time....

19$ fro 12 issues of Nintendo Power was cheaper, but NP is also dead now.

I think that pricey print versions of this magazine is perfectly acceptable. We're not talking about a mass market product here folks. And you do have a 5$ digital alternative anyway!

The digital version is perfect anyway! I bought the print version + the bonus digital version. I did it to show my support mostly! We'll see about future releases. Might be digital only for me in the future..

It'll be all over eBay for ten cents a copy in three years, unless they print like 100 copies or something

It's printed on demand if I'm remembering correctly.. If they sell 10,000 copies, there will be 10,000 copies in the world, period. That's what I understood though. I may be wrong.

I want the physical + digital version so...is there anyone at all willing to order it if I pm you a code for $25 gift card on amazon? You can keep the change.

Problem is, I probably won't have the card until the very end of the month. Normally, I wouldn't ask this until I had the money and it is unfair that I am but they might not sell each issue for long and I don't wanna miss out. So anyone?
It's print on demand, meaning it's not going anywhere unless they pull it from the website. Don't worry.
So this isn't like an official Nintendo thing?
Absolutely not.
Does mag cloud have an app for android tablets?
They do not. You should be able to read through the browser, though, or just download the PDF.
Have they said how many pages the issue is? Also, what charity? And how much of the proceeds?
It's 80 pages, and they haven't answered either. Shocking, I know.

Solid opening issue, although it's clear that they don't have any exclusive content. It's much more "for Nintendo fans, by Nintendo fans" than a real inside angle into all things Nintendo.

I bought the physical version of issue 1 (they printed my question!), but will probably go digital only the rest of the way if I keep up with it.

It's a nice companion magazine to the final issue of Nintendo Power more than anything else.

That's crazy expensive :(

I don't think I can justify this as much as I'd like to support it. Maybe I'll wait for more impressions and if they're REALLY good I'll buy the first issue digitally.

Thats all I expected and thats fine with me. Can't wait to get it soon.

I might already have someone to do this now, but if they don't thats good to hear. Will atleast be able to order one by the end of the month, with someones help since I do not have a credit card.

It is kinda a mess, the way I have to do it since I want Physical+Digital, the other person will have to login to my account on that site each month to order me one since the digital version is tied to your account :lol

Get this shit on amazon. (I know its not happening.)

It accepts Paypal or you could get a prepaid Visa giftcard.

Won't lie, but seeing Go Nintendo link to NWR who mentions Nintendo Force magazine for the Mutant Mudds info was funny since Go Nintendo and NWR have writers for Nintendo Force. So, why buy this magazine if I can get the info from the magazine on these websites?

Maybe I don't understand paypal, but you need a credit card to add funds to it, right? Or do they sell paypal gift cards at retailers? Man, if they do, I could use Netflix and ebay again...

And I've had a prepaid cc before, I don't want to have it eat $6 a month to keep it working.

Again maybe theres a better way to have either of these options, but from my limited experience with both, I don't see it.

Edit: After googling, no paypal gift cards as far as I can see. Visa gift cards seems different from what I had and might work, but the magcloud website seems to only accept Visa credit cards. Oh well, guess I'll have to give a person a $25 amazon gift card each month to get it :lol

Yeah, definitely seems like they rushed the launch as far as pricing. Hopefully they get something more reasonable worked out.

I believe they're locked into $0.20+/page for print issues by using Magcloud in the first place.

Would you continue to buy the print version for $20 for an issue? Debut issue I can kinda understand, but not for every single issue. I hope they work on a publisher and get a subscription plan like Nintendo Power had.

Alright. I'll bite and buy the physical issue. I was on the fence until they mentioned that the profit goes to a charity. I'm all for that. But I can't keep paying $17 for future issues. They need to work on a good publishing deal.

Hello, all!

You may not know me, I'm Poopaloop from over on ********** and I was also on staff for Nintendo Force. I'd like to personally thank everyone for their support so far, it means so much to us! I'll try answer a couple quick points on here now, but if anyone requires any further information, you can always reach us at forcefeedback@nintendoforcemagazine.com

Firstly, I can completely understand your feelings regarding the pricing. Due to the fact that NONE of us on staff are taking a cut from this project, naturally it's just as much in our best interests as well as yours to keep pricing down, so I can definitely empathise if you cannot justify $18 on a magazine. We intend to work at lowering prices for our subsequent issues (and are more than happy to take any suggestions regarding alternative printing methods to do so!), as well as having subscriptions hammered out by the launch of our second issue. Basically: we don't intend to use MagCloud going forward, at their current pricing structure. However, at this stage it was the best choice for distribution and logistical factors, so that is the reason for the pricing. As MagCloud charges 20 cents per page, only 99c is 'added' on to the top, and that is going to charity.

All proceeds from the digital version go to charity. The physical copy is more a premium item, with the digital version being our main product at this point.

As far as which charity the money is going to, there is a reason we have not detailed this. I want to categorically deny, once again, that ANY of our team are taking a profit from Nintendo Force. The reason we haven't detailed the charity in question is for fears they would feel we are using their charity's name to push our product; once we have received the OK from them, we'll be happy to make that reveal. I believe most of you could figure out which charity it will be anyway, if you look at the clues that have been left it would be child's play to work it out.

Again, I hope that explains a couple of things. Feel free to contact me at the above address if you have any more questions.
