Fan translations can never get taken down, as they do not use any property Square Enix owns. They are distributed just as simple patch files, being made up of only text.
So quick question about this project. In order to play this one needs rom dump and a hacked console right? How will one manage to play this game on unhacked console say ps vita? Progress looks amazing! good job guys!
I don't know if this helps but you guys DO know the Second CD is done in terms of fan translation, right?
No it's not.
That's a partial translation for menu stuff.
@Dunan: Glorious.
Alrighty. That's fair enough.
Are you guys allowing people to have subs if they want, as an alternative?
Is the Japanese game still easily available?
Do they have enough translators?
Do they have enough translators?
Explain. If all goes well we will be able to translate all the text. Are you referring to alternate languages?
Well you mentioned there would be fan dubbing right?
Is that a must or can I just have subtitles with Japanese audio, for the fan translation project?
The more the merrier.
Well, I'd love to help out, so let me know what I need to do to get started.

You misread. We don't have any dubbing plans. It's just translating the text.
Oh ok... that's good then!
I'm guessing we won't have access to multiplayer though, will we?
I'm so tempted to order the game after reading these developments. Might hold out a bit longer. Magius please make my dreams come true.
Like I said before, if this get's done, it might be the final straw that pushes me to install CFW.
You don't have to "install" CFW anymore. The best custom firmware for PSP is a temporary ordeal - you run a file that puts you in CFW mode, and once you turn the PSP off, you're back on OFW.
Is that the case for the Vita CFW too? I'd much rather play VC3 / Type-0 on my Vita, but don't want to risk anything happenning to my brand new Vita =D.
Isn't most of the game translated anyway? By that I mean all abilities, items, menus, etc. I know the history/ Crimson Codex is HUGE, but people have been translating it for a while. I wonder if it is as easy as just inserting said text into the correct lines and then proofreading....

I honestly can't care about the codex. If the story/ability/tutorials is 100% done, they should release that as is and just update the codex/patch as they go along.
Chapter titles were but other than that... no.
EDIT: Also, if nobody minds, I just want to say I'm really proud of my boy Magius here for sticking with this. I know he's not the only one on board, but I just felt he deserved some cred for being actively involved in pushing for getting this done and keeping it organized. Jerks over at the lamefaqs might not see it, but I've been following the game since like, 10, and Magius' been pretty onboard with this thing going from where I've been sitting.
Ah, so the translation patch is almost done? The team that did it is much appreciated. Such a shame that you had to do a job for no pay that Square Enix should have done themselves. I will be enjoying this on my Vita with the UNO exploit!
Not quite.
No problem. I'm sure that you guys will do a great job translating this game and making it more easily available to us English speaking owners, however long it takes.
Also, how are you doing Magius? Just the person I was hoping to see. Still a frequent of the Dissidia board on GameFAQs? I had a lot of fun on that message board. Then the game came out and the community died.
We meet again, Gilgamesh.Kid from Chrono Cross, and Rem and Cinque are next on the list supposedly.
And yeah this is the same Skyblade. He contacted me on Dissidia Forums asking me about my involvement in the fantranslation thing I was in and I told him basically what we wanted to do and why we couldn't do what and he basically said that the game wasn't encrypted but used custom encoding and that he could make it work but he wanted to see interest with translators to motivate to make tools to get it done, which is what he is working on now.

So it's great to finally see that this on board to happen.
From what I read and can gather everything is still really early on? Or are you guys further ahead then I realize?
Any time estimates potentially (Even if they are just shots in the dark) ? 1 year out? 2 years out?
I know absolutely nothing about any of this stuff, so all I can offer is some cheering from the sidelines, but god speed friends.
Not the first translation project Sky is working on anyway.Truth did but he gave up when he found evidence that the game would be localized from the game's code, however here we are.
I have trust that Sky will follow this through even if he lapses during school/college studies.

He dropped the ball with a few of them mid-way tho, such as Magna Carta's; albeit that was merely because he didn't feel the effort would have been worthwhile since it didn't garner much interest if I recall correctly. This project will definitely put him there in terms of reputation once the patch is released. Pleasant to see him reach that point, granted I've been stanning his works for almost three years now.
http://vc3translationproject.wordpress.com/Has Valkyria Chronicles 3 been translated?
I want that too.
@Dunan: Glorious.
"Glorious" is far too kind a word for the translations I'm sending you; "workmanlike" might be a little better. Not knowing what the other translators are doing, or how much "flavor" they're tying to put in, I've been translating the text almost as blandly as possible so that it'll fit in with everyone else's work. I didn't invent any terminology or use any foreign or made-up words, though on many occasions I wanted to.
The closest I've come so far is to call the Milites 皇国 the "Imperium". If I were the official translator, getting a paycheck for working on this game, and had a reasonable amount of license to spice things up, I'd probably use Latin words (fitting in with "Peristylium") for Suzaku titles and institutions, Greek words for the Sparta-like Milites, Sanskrit/Hindi for Sōryū (they already have many Sanskrit-like place names), and... I'm not sure what Lorica would be. Genbu, the Black Tortoise, is associated with the North, but Nordic words would somehow seem out of place for that civilization.
The Codex is depressing reading. A long litany of war and killing. I love how much background information this game's story gets, but sometimes it gets to be a bit of a downer.
