XBLA (Xbox Live Arcade) News, Announcements, Reviews, and Impressions Thread

Every beta I've been in, asked for participant feedback in forums and posting any bugs/issues that are run into.
I suspect there are many so-called "betas" that aren't really betas, but early demos for server stress testing and/or generating advertising/hype.

Thanks for the heads-up, canIhasAnAccount.
Signed up. Loved Castle Crashers.

Yeah, posting about a bug in a forum is one thing, but did you read the task list that you've agreed to abide by?

Play the game each day for a short while, spend maybe 10 minutes total - writing a few things down, taking a quick survey, making a post or 2 on their beta forum.
I don't have a problem with this. The point is to make the game better.
I guess only people interested in this game or developer, need apply.
They just want to increase their chances of getting feedback; I'm sure lots of betas people treat as throw-away quick demos. (I'm actually guilty of this with DUST on PSN.)

Me too. They offered me Castle Crashers back when they were celebrating their anniversary so I'd be glad to help them. Thanks for the info.

I'd read the T&Cs, too, you have to sign an NDA :lol

To be fair that all seems pretty much exactly like the last Netgear hardware beta I was part of. Difference being it's worth doing all that stuff for a free $150 router, it's not really worth it for a $15 game.

You're not even getting a $15 game, you get to play it for seven days. May as well just wait for the proper demo :lol

Reason for posting is that achievements for Virtual On and Virtua Striker have been updated, and they're both in Japanese. I've never seen this before for an XBLA, I hope it doesn't mean they're Japan only. Not that it really matters now, I guess, Microsoft might wonder why so many accounts migrate to Japan that day though...

It may update later, there were sone japanese developed games that had their achievements initialy ib japanese.

Anyway you do not need to migrate accounts if te games are Japan only, you only need a 2nd japanese account

Aww. It wasn't a good game, exactly, but it was kind of likeable in its way.

I think this is the first game pulled that I kind of feel bad about. I always meant to buy it, despite the bad reviews, but never got around to it. In fact I believe it was on sale one week like a year ago and I thought I had bought it and realized a day or two late that I missed it.

Alas, no more. Oh well. Guess I'll play one of the other 140 I do own and have barely touched.

Then you'd need Japanese points, too. Probably easier just to migrate and use the points you've got already!

I wish they'd announce this delisting stuff ahead of time, I wouldn't have bought that game but I'm sure there's stuff I am gonna miss.

I'll update throughout the day.

DOTW

Sleeping Dogs - 2800msp/35$ (was 3600/45$) US price, check your region
--Dragon Master pack - 320msp (was 640)
--Nightmare in North Point pack - 280msp (was 560)
--Street Racer pack - 160msp (was 320)
--SWAT pack - 160msp (was 320)

Seems to be UK only but,

Witcher 2 - 2360msp/20£ (was 30£)
-----

Hole in the Wall - 200msp (was 400)

Sale & Specials+ app

Boom Boom Rocket - 400msp (was 800)
Rhythm Party(Boom Boom Dance) - 400msp (was 800)
Rock Band Blitz - 800msp (was 1200)

so it appears that Rock Band Blitz is no longer on sale. that was quick.

i almost considered buying it as a track pack this week too. oh well, sale lost. it was mostly shitty songs anyways. not missing much.

edit: looks like it was pulled because people were having issues getting the track pack to download. something to do with it being purchased via the S&S app.

that thing is such a piece of crap. MS need to fix that shit. it integrates very poorly with XBL.

It is very easy to buy digital points online. Plenty of realible stores do that.

Do not migrate accounts. It is a pain process, you will loose something for sure (specially subscriptions) and some of your already bought content will be unavailable for redownload due to different region restrictions, etc.

Phantom Breaker: Battleground passed cert and the achievements were posted. We might be seeing it sometime soon. Wish it would have passed a few weeks ago so we didn't have two weeks of nothing.

Phantom Breaker BG also released it's gamer pick pack today.

Not much info on Live itself, but their website seems to suggest there's 10 gamerpics in it's 160 msp package.

This also makes the full game page viewable, and the gallery images are up with it.

They also revealed a good amount of the achievements on their own blog, as well.

They only mention 135 gamerscore worth of them, including things like leveling up for the first time, beating the game in online play, and reaching max level.

Looks like Yar's Revenge has been pulled.
Was this recent?

Published by Atari. And Atari US just filed for Bankruptcy. Probably other Atari games will follow it.

Which are the Atari published games on XBLA? I recall Star Raiders, Yars Revenge, Ghostbusters Sanctum of Slime, D&D Daggerdale, The Undergarden, Haunted House, Warlords and Blade Kitten.

I really want Yu-Gi-Oh, Outrun, Sega Rally from that list. Shit like Goldenaxe and Mortal Kombat 3 is back on XBLA but bundled with other games.

Special Forces Team X has Atari and Microprose listed as pubs.

There's not really much in that list that constitutes a major loss, really. OutRun is basically available on disk, as is SEGA Rally. HAT is Kinect Party. Loads of stuff is easily obtainable elsewhere. And a lot of those games have been surpassed in quality, too, like why would you want Inferno Pool when there's the excellent Pool Nation instead? Or they were just plain bad to begin with

Marble Blast Ultra is probably the one major loss, and I'd have picked Roogoo up in a heartbeat if it had ever gone on sale.

Obviously it'd be better if it was all still there, but we've been pretty lucky to not lose that much so far

You know what's gonna suck? Not having another Geometry Wars at the beginning of the next console cycle.
You never know. It's not like Activision is taking advantage of the IP. Geometry Wars 3 would be the perfect launch game for XBLA on the Durango.

I thought this week's DOTW was supposed to be Max Payne 3 content? I'm sure that I read it on his blog in his upcoming marketplace thing post.

I wanted to get that season pass for 1200. Damn

Edit: Ah looks like the Major deleted that from his blog entry.

It didn't look very exciting, to be honest: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AkOdYEE19UQ

It's still on Smoking Gun's site so maybe they didn't forget. http://www.smokingguninc.com/products/in-development/

Looks pretty much like what you'd do with Doodle Jump on Kinect tbh, there's not really that many places for it to go. Looked irritating as fuck, though, that stupid fade at the bottom clearly makes it impossible to know whether a platform is on screen or not and the guy kept losing because of it.

But yeah, I'd probably buy it for cheap if they fixed that at some point in development. It's pretty throwaway but it's a nice thing to throw on when you've got a few minutes spare.

Eh, that's fine. I hope whatever become the game for all publishers to pumpo out insane copies of for thsi coming Gen, is something that's not based around personality-less geometric figures! Or Silhouettes. Still find Groov on XBLIG to be one of the few Geo Clones that had enough personality to stick out for me:)

I wouldn't be suprised if someone else made a Super Stardust or Nano Assault-a-like early on, anywho.

And at least Geo looks like one of the things that a few programmers and artist could pull together; so if some of the team from the old games wants to make something like it, it wouldn't be as impossible as, say, getting a new Shadow Complex.

About time it went on sale! I been waiting on this to go on sale since it came out.

Infinity Gene and Extreme... still not Ray Storm, but I'll take em! I'm suprised In-Gene's DLC isn't listed as son sale, too...

No, Online is basically Sega Rally 3, which is an arcade only developed at the same time/same team of Revo, but with different twists. SR3 is also 60fps, what Revo is not (not sure about Online).
Except Online Arcade is actually fun. Don't get me wrong, I got Revo when it came out. I played it quite a bit, went through a number of the championships and so on. But after playing Online Arcade a bunch, I can't go back and enjoy Revo. It feels (or perhaps reminds me) as though I'm fighting my car the whole race; constantly trying to keep going the direction I want.

Back on topic, what's this delisted games list all about? I wasn't even aware that half of those had gone away. The only one on that list that I noticed had a blank/missing cover image in my dashboard was UMK3. SROA, TMNT 1989 and Re-Shelled (to name a few) still display fine for me.

Most of the time, basic pages can still appear, but the big thing will be that the game isn't available for purchase / it's DLC and other items will dissappear. Most of the issues of delisting come because the publishers no longer exist, or a license or rights for a game have been lost to the companies involved.

I'm happy to have Yars as part of my backlog; maybe it's shooting controls are a bit off, but the art and design they came up with to try and revive it, is probably the most inspired of any of their HD re-imagings.

Wish everyone had the decency Sega had before Outrun Disappeared (letting everyone know it was going to well beforehand). There should automatically be a firesale for any delisting soon titles...

Ah, gotcha. Well damn, I was debating buying one of the Yu-Gi-Oh! games at some point too.
