Why I am shocked you would say such a thing.

Im just being realistic. No one is forcing you to buy the game anyway. Its a ok game for what it is supposed to achieve. Its not a full fledged RPG, but then again if you were expecting it to be I am starting to doubt your sanity. I mean, no one plays them on mobile phones for hours... thats why we have portable devices especific for gaming. And being honest despite the gameplay being kinda dull, the concept is interesting, there is a sense of progress, you dont NEED to buy the extra characters to finish the game, they are just EXTRA, there are things to collect and the spritework is really well done. There is music from all the FF's and characters alike. The basic price is convinient. People are just making it seems like a big deal when it really isn't...

Wait, there's actually enough sources reviewing this game to compile a list for? I honestly thought most would just ignore it ever existed outside of editorial fodder, so I will be very fascinated seeing how many are going to completely and utterly eviscerate this "game."

It gives the "SE should just make HD remakes of IV and VI every year" crowd something to point and shake their heads at, mainly. Good way to get site hits.

Aren't people in japan loving this? I recall someone mentioned that 2ch is up in arms against that IGN psa video.

Well its gachapon, its not something that makes much sense to a western person and for good reason mostly.

People in the US are loving it as well. It's keeping around in the top 50 on the US App store.

sucker born every minute etc

I would like to think its a case of naivety, I think most people see a new FF game for $4 and buy it without knowing they have to spend crap loads more.

Why did they even review it? Just because it's "Final Fantasy"? You can see from a mile that this game hasn't much to offer!
And then there is the SE typical premium price. Well, I can't blame them. At least they are consistent with their pricing:

0,99$ (Base price) x Final Fantasy-brand multiplier + Square Enix-multiplier = 4$

I bought it simply because I was particularly interested in how they executed the gameplay for personal reasons.

If iOS was a bigger platform for Square (as in mainline stuff and whatnot), this would be by far the most brand damaging thing they have ever done. Seriously, what the fuck.

Square Enix Japan, everyone.

N-No!

Shut your mouth! Please!
Not... TWEWY... Square don't you dare do this shit.
The World Ends With You is my favorite game from last gen, but you have to accept what Square-Enix has become.

If it's not iOS trash, it won't ever be released in English.

It's better if we just stick to our memories of the first game.

The might suck, but for Kotaku to say the franchise is dying a slow death is a little much. Its only really started it's "bad" streak this generation (or last, whatever PS3/360/Wii belong to). And even then I believe it's only outside japan...

Was Type 0 well received? Didnt follow that since it pretty much dropped off NA release radar.

Are you honestly surprised people dislike a game that consists of nothing other than mindlessly rubbing a screen?

Please tell me what intricate strategies you used to beat the third boss. Did you swipe up and down or left to right?

None. I just have fun unlocking things, beating bosses, seeing characters and cataloging weapons from games I liked to play. Sorry if I cant enjoy something everyone seems to have to hate.

No no, you don't understand.

It's not supposed to be strategic. Or interesting. Or good.

It's just a timewaster. Like scratching your ass and smelling your finger. Or picking your nose and eating the booger. Just something to waste a couple seconds at a traffic light, you know?

Fairly well received. And yeah, they can bounce back next-generation quite easily, but far from slowly dying.

Whatever, the game is actually pretty cool. And addictive. Not bad for an iOS game to kill time or something. Its not like other games on the appstore are much better...

Actually, yes there are. A ton. By virtue of the fact they typically cost half or even less than ATB and you can play them for hours on end without paying more.

Like, 10 years ago, there were thousands of people trying to defende Square for everything they were doing. Luckily, now, there is just some random guy doing that.

57. Top Paid for iPhone US

41. Top grossing for iphone US
And number two in the top paid list in Japan (beaten by an Evangelion e-book) and fourth top grossing one.

Plus Bravely Default and Dragon Quest: Pirate Slime.

And they skipped over SaGa 2, SaGa 3 and The Nameless Games last gen, among others.

Square-Enix is a pretty much that stank liquid you find at the bottom of a garbage bin now.
All of those games you mentioned would require much more money to be released anywhere that required localization to other languages, ATB on the other hand doesn't. It makes much more sense to release ATB than those other titles. And for the record they did release that one Nameless Game spin-off on iOS, probably because they didn't have much to translate much like with ATB.

No, the biggest problem in Final Fantasy All The Bravest is that when you die in battle—which will happen often, because battles are totally random and there's no way to heal, buff, target enemies, or do anything except swipe your finger up and down as your characters furiously attack—you have to either wait for your characters to revive (three minutes per character, or up to two hours), exit the battle and try again (pointless, since again, there's no strategy), or pay Square Enix real money to revive your party.
Let me repeat that: in order to make progress in the game you just spent $4 to buy, you have to pay more money to Square Enix.

Taken from a Kotaku article.
No, you don't you can get through the game just fine without paying more or waiting, you have to grind. Grinding obviously is not something many people like, which I get in the context of an actual RPG but when you consider how mindless this game is and how fast the battles are it makes sense. Plus the game sort of encourages this with its catalog.
If someone decides to pay for hourglasses it's about the same as buying item packs that are offered for certain games in PSN/XBLA, and paying for premium characters is the same as buying costumes in the same or other similar services for other games.

Fucking terrible.

On some level, I hope these guys are ashamed of what they've done here. A game made by businessmen, not creators or designers. How far Square-Enix Japan has fallen.

Can't wait for the guy from the other thread to pop in here and try to defend this thing again.
I'm not sure if you're referring to me or worldrevolution but in my case I'm not defending the game, I'm merely accepting it for what it is, and not having a tantrum over it.

What gameplay? Popping bubblewrap requires more effort. Its paying to look at ff sprites and listen to ff music that you probably already have in better games. FF fans need to stop embarrasing me and get some dignity and self control. Stop supporting this shitty ass shit that keeps distracting SE from doing the real stuff everyone wants.

It's just that Square used to be so good... I can't believe they fell so low on one generation.

I doubt it's going to be bad again, but if FFXIV doesn't do well they aren't going to bounce back too swiftly or well. SE's been too consistent with sketchy decisions and lack of care for what most people want that it's starting to effect them.

As for this game, if it wasn't for the all the random, steal all your money stuff, I don't think it would get too much flack. Well, it doesn't appear to be anything more worthy than a 1$ iPhone game, but all the money required for such a game or characters is absolutely silly and another one of SE's questionable decisions.

I bought it and all the characters and I completely regret it.
How much did you spend in total?

And I agree that the reviews are overly negative as well as unnecessary. What were the reviewer's expectations? Seriously!
Well, it used to be that titles with "Final Fantasy" in the title were worth paying attention to.

I'm sure this is something that will correct itself in the near future, the quality of Final Fantasy-branded games released in the last couple years sees to that.
