PAL Charts - Week 3, 2013

Over a third is such a strange term to use. I am thinking it may have sold 33 percent more then dmc4 and not only a third of what DMC 4 sold. If the numbers were so significantly less then dmc4 would you not say something along the lines of "it sold less then 40 percent or it only sold just over 33 percent of what dmc4 sold?" It is very strange wording they used.

@electro: And KH did well in UK ( and Europe in general). Then, we have US where Angry Birds and Lego games and Epic Mickey did well. But still, it's michaelius, he's used to troll Nintendo consoles just looking at UK charts ;)

In the Value Chart, NSMBU went from 24th to 27th, while Nintendo Land saw an increase (from 36th to 30th). And Paper Mario made a big jump, from 30th to 20th.

Yeah I know but it's relative placement on the chart still means something and they were not short on copies, there were loads.

I can see people avoiding buying brand new games from them purely because they might not be able to get a refund or whatever. Anyway, a heavy dip certainly wouldn't surprise me, but we'll have to see.

It really doesn't. When I worked in GAME, the "chart" was decided in advance before games even came out. After that, I wouldn't trust any stores charts.

Surprised to see Paper Mario where it is. I thought maybe it got reduced?

It's probably a combination of other titles decreasing / Paper Mario being stable compared to last week for whatever reason ( its own merits or a price cut )

Any chance of getting Australia and New Zealand included in the PAL charts? The figures might not be as easily accessible, but it would be interesting.

Of course, I'm saying this because I want to convince myself this is Nintendo of Australia's time to shine!

As someone who has gone Wii U-only for this gen, I can't shake the feeling I had when I went Dreamcast-only: great system with great games... uh....

When you mean this gen, do you include the next systems?

How did you make that decision at this stage? That's not meant to judgemental, just interested since we know so little apart from specs about the next consoles.

As for Aussie & NZ charts, I think it would just require someone to source them and make them easy for the OP to go to each week.

FIFA 13 (all formats):
Week 01 = <58.9K
Week 02 = <31.2K
Week 03 (-40%) = <18.7K

Typically ~50% 360 SKU so I'm guessing #3 on the Individual Formats UK chart is <10K.

If Nintendo put on a E3 show like Sega did in year 2000 then I will have no concerns.

Yes, exactly my thoughts. When first reading this I thought they meant "over a third more" than the previous game. Mmm.

France week 02 >

1 - COD : Blacks Ops 2 PS3 - Activision Blizzard
2 - FIFA 13 PS3 - Electronic Arts
3 - Need for Speed : Most Wanted 2012 PS3 - Electronic Arts
4 - COD : Blacks Ops 2 XBox 360 - Activision Blizzard
5 - Halo 4 XBox 360 - Microsoft

I thought the top 5's of each platform were quite telling of the very different userbases on each platform.

Vita:

1, NFS: Most Wanted
2, CoD Blops Declassified
3, LBP Vita
4, AC3 Liberation
5, FIFA 13

3DS:

1, Mario Kart 7
2, New Super Mario Bros 2
3, Paper Mario Sticker Star
4, Super Mario 3D Land
5, Mario & Sonic London 2012

Yeah poor Vita owners just have to make do with what they got. Poor lads. :-P

Regarding being better than a third of DMC4; while I can't find the specific sales figures for it - it didn't receive a Silver ELSPA award for the Feb it launched, nor the subsequent March. So I wouldn't be surprised if DMC (all formats) is less than 30K.
What is the Value chart?
Revenue chart, I believe. Can be found on the Gfk site.
360 SKU (#3) = <9.5K
PS3 SKU (#6) = <5.6K

I would hazard to guess that the bottom of the chart is sub-1K. Which would mean that the Wii U might have sold less than 1K this week too... :s

How the hell is GT5 still charting? Are they counting bundles?

Pretty sure it has been out of the charts a couple of times and went back in when the Platinum version released and now back in again because of the Academy version.

What I want to ask is, has Forza 4 ever been out of the charts, it's like there forever.

Yeah, I consider Wii U "next gen". As for my decision making process, it was easy:

1) Most modern games to me are what Angry Birds and Fruit Ninja are to current gamers.
2) Graphics don't matter to me.
3) If the Xbox and PlayStation brands continue on their current trajectory, they have little that interest me.
4) I'm 30 now, and I find my time is increasingly limited. I don't have time for all the consoles like I used to. I don't even have time for every game.
5) Off-screen play will probably save my relationship.

To be honest, as long as Nintendo keep supporting it, I'll have enough. But I said that about the Dreamcast...

Yeah, Forza 4 left the charts around June/July for a few weeks.

There is no market for Call of Duty, Assassins Creed and Fifa? =)
Presumably the speculation is theres not a large market for older ("mature") audiences with handhelds vs. children. Which I'd say is fair but far from the entire reason for the Vitas performance.

Okay thanks.
Interesting here NSMBU and Nintendo Land chart. I'm not saying the WiiU has sold very well but I would suggest they've sold better than some in here are suggesting.

Not to any great extent though.

No, it doesn't suggest they've sold any better. It suggests they're more expensive.

Wii U probably barely scraped 1k last week.

You must have missed the bottom part of that post. Those titles are selling hundreds not thousands, and even the system itself may have sold in the hundreds rather than thousands this week.

You're looking at sub 2k, even sub 1k numbers for the WiiU at this point. Death.

Its petty, but I am pulling for not very good numbers for DmC.Ninja Theory is a terrible studio and all I hear are horror stories behind their developments, and yet countless other UK studios have been crucified before their oddly long run of luck.

Generally Nintendo don't drop the prices for their games, being below in revenue to a game like Hitmans PS3's sku which was half price since a couple of weeks after launch isn't very promising from a units sold perspective.

edit: beaten wow lol

I feel exactly the same looking at the 3DS lists. This just confirms what I was saying. They're different audiences.
Fair enough, would be boring if both machines were clones offering the same shit anyway. Variety is the spice of life, the be all end all swiss army knife plattform is a pipedream anyway.

Just a shame that both Vita and 3DS can't manage to find a larger market. Both great machines with interesting libraries.

Call of Duty: Black Ops II (All formats) Week 3 - less than 16.489 (-26%)

I'm not sure. Was there a large market for older audience on handhelds before compared to today? And are primarily the handheld audience today for handheld systems kids?

Pretty terrible sounding overall.
If the numbers at the bottom of the chart are like that then its also not great news for a lot of the higher charting games and how much they've sold. Including the 3DS games.

Remains true I guess that to be relevant in the UK market you basically need to be number one or chart for long enough to collect sales.

Wait, PC and Wii U sales are lumped together there? So the Wii U version (and all software below it in the Wii U chart) could have actually sold less than 330 when you take into account physical retail PC sales?

If so, that's extraordinary.

No, both PC and Wii U SKUs sold 2% of the total.
