To be fair, Sony's actual games oust much of the stuff they initially showed off.

Case in point.

Imo some of the visuals and tech showcased in Sony's actual games went above and over aspects of their original tech show case, not all of it, but a lot of it. Certainly more than I actually expected them to deliver on anyway.

This generation in particular has drawn more out of these consoles than I could have ever predicted. Which is even more reason I'm looking forward to these new consoles. I expect great things.[/QUOTE]

reminds me of 2005 when we compared ps2 tech demos vs games like shadow of the colossus, silent hill, gow 2 and gt4. it took years, but in the end the graphics ended up pretty close or surpassing tech demos.

i think neogaf is a much smarter community now. our expectations are reasonable.

Also, if you say the 720 might be close to the PS4 you are being paid by MS to do so. We also found out that the PS4 has more RAM because the 720 will be using its RAM for Kinect and ads.

By the end of the week the Durango will be considered a Wii U spin off.

With all the talk of stacked RAM in the PS4, why wouldn't MS have access to this process? If Sony doesn't own a patent on it, I see no reason why MS wouldn't use it to increase bandwidth, or shrink their board.

Sony doesn't have the process either. Nobody has that process as of right now for something this big.

Lots of valid reasons why they might have made different design decisions.

Priorities. Budget. Time frames. Desired yields. Which partners will be manufacturing the chips. Different engineers having different visions.

How about this. Since the dates and other stuff I have said has panned out. What in the future would you personally like me to ask and get info about. I mean. I admit I don't post hundreds of things so I can't cover the world in flak. But I can ask something. What exactly are you requesting?

Also I am not so sure why your being such a dick. I am sharing what I get. And though not as technical as you...I am not sure why mostly discussing dates or an HDMI passthrough has you so temperamental and...personal.

You could demystify the "secret sauce" "wizardjizz" that should elevate the conversation.

This is the problem with outing yourself as a possible insider or having insider information. You put a foot wrong and you will be ridiculed. I know that unlike some, you did not try to interpret the information that you were given rather you were biding for time to post at the most appropriate moment that went by, or such the impression I gathered from the reaction of others. Even now, I am unsure as to what information you were going to post.

A thing that I do appreciate is your honesty in the matter of classifying your source and the potential ramification.

Good luck.

Oh shit, you got the police on your ass Karma.

Do you hear the sirens? He probably does. Anyway, people like them generally go to my ignore list.

I love that the 360 and PS3 could achieve what they could off a total of 512MB RAM, but suddenly the 8GB DDR of the new Xbox is looked down upon already.

Christ. Has it really become that bad here?

Both these consoles will be fuck awesome.
Remember that thread where the guy from Crytek said that he wanted next gen consoles to have 8GB of RAM? The vast majority were on the "never gonna happen!" side and people were predicting that they'd probably have 2GB. Now 8GB of DDR3 is not enough, lol. I agree with you - both are gonna be great.

If Karak or Arthur have data/documentation they don't quite understand, it's actually better that they don't spread it... we need less speculation and uninformed conclusion jumping for both consoles.

Do you want more speculation and uninformed conclusion jumping than "secret sauce" & "wizardjizz" I disagree.

When people mentioned stacked RAM, it seems proprietary to Sony (although I guess that due to Jeff Rigby). I can see MS choosing against stacking due to other factors, but I was just wondering if they didn't have access to the process.

Still not going to happen if the 3G for OS is true.

Are they not using TellMe anymore for Kinect 2? The RAM usage is going to be used to store a massive token dictionary?

Just booted up my program that I wrote that uses all of Kinect except for speech and it is using 100mb of RAM. So that is full skeletal tracking, 640x480@30fps rgb, and 640x480@30fps depth. I could be not lazy and see what kind of sizes each of these separate components take up, but I am not going to be. I might add speech recognition since it is simple and see what those libraries add.

Just added speech recognition to it and it added 22mb more to the RAM usage.

A ubisoft dev said they were even.

This is probably before the final Orbis kits arrived. As far as I know Sony dev kits have been significantly improving in performance, unlike the Durango, which actually took a massive drop from alpha to beta :D

True, but if you post what it is/does/contains, some of the smart dudes on GAF/Internet will crack it open for us to digest.

:)

Actually my questions, as I made clear when I left that night. Were about CLOUD Computing. Thats why I asked the thread for help. Almost all of my questions revolved around that. I got random bits about MS staying on point. I assumed they meant the power point.
My original idea was that the 720 was "missing" uhmp because MS had made some headway in cloud computing. But that wasn't backed up.

As I have stated before. This isn't a tech guru like what I assume other contacts are. That's why I don't usually have exacts for that but instead for random bits, and if something cool comes down the line like the HDMI in.

Hopefully that stays in.

EDIT: And the bullshit I couldn't understand revolved around HSA efficiency and he told to study memory architecture and other stuff I still don't even get. I stopped trying to figure it out or write it up after a couple hours.

By the time the system launches only the ESRAM will be usable. Dat kinect 3.0, hide yo kids, hide yo wife

Second GPU.

So are people still getting labeled "Orbis fanboy" if they think the name "secret sauce" is stupid?

Ooo, ooo, ooo. I've got one.

Assuming that the "Data Move Engine" exists, and that it contains (perhaps four) separate blocks of functionality, ask your source to provide the "official" MS-approved name for one of those blocks. We don't need an explanation of what it does, or why it's handy, just the name. It would be best if the name was fairly unique.

Or, if the DME doesn't actually exist, or isn't actually called that, let us know that.

The whole 3GB-of-RAM-reserved-for-the-OS thing would be awesome to have confirmed or denied, also.

Okay, I'll stop.

For ever bkilian or Iherre, we have a 1000 other posters who built a computer once and think they know what they're talking about and don't. If you guys are vaguely claiming Polygon can't be trusted, why would you believe developer documents straight from MS on performance?

People are still arguing and making claims about Cell and Xenos eight years later...

looks like it. :) Infact it means they apparently think 720 is the next WiiU or some other melodramatic nonsense as alluded by some of the posts above.

When both the consoles are exactly going to be the same it is going to be hilarious.

Once again, hard to tell whether this is truth or obfuscation to inform or rile certain people up.

That said, part about alpha kits of Orbis improving can be corroborated by a rumour post that was on PS4 VGleaks thread late last year.

The part that does not makes sense is that (iirc it may have been thuway) MS was in pursuit of a console that would have been very similar to the leaked 2010 document which was deemed "underpowered" (to launch for 2012). And then there was a delay in which time they upped the specs significantly. So, if anything, the alpha kits should have improved and then plateau'd out as the Orbis' devkits were slowly improving. The two rumours are incongruent in their details.

Edit: Last year, a rumour informed us that the "final" dev kit for Orbis would be available in summer 2013 with the second to last one being delivered in January, i.e. most likely already done.

There are times where I secretly hope that both consoles are going to be equally underpowered.

The meltdown would be beautiful.

Joking aside, I would be rather glad if both Sony and MS took different directions. Then it would make even more sense for dual purchases.
