Dead Space 3 |OT| Can I Play With Madness?

Well the conversation goes..... "dead space 3 really enjoyed it" "except that one part" "oh god oh god oh god"

So it seems there may be a part that really frustrating/badly designed rather than "good". :/

Even if it turns out to be Issac being chased by 14 Ubermorphs without anyway of getting rid of them for a whole chapter straight with no extra health or ammo, I'm still excited to see what they're talking about. It's got a surprise kind of vibe to it.

Really like how EA asked us for the scores of previous chapters then silently decided NOT TO SEND us reviewable codes until launch (if at all). And both scored in the 90s. I guess we were "polarized and gave the game scores which were, frankly, lower than they deserved".

Yay.
Weird. Getting reviewable and working with PR, be it EA or contracted by EA, has never been easier for us. Seriously over the last year they've been the most helpful and responsive. Are you in Europe?

Replaying DS2 for a couple of achieveables, with the volume all the way up.

These games threaten my manhood because I am only on the 1st chapter and I've screamed aloud at least three times and have jumped back from the TV two of those times.

And "Twinke Twinkle" does show up in this game, it's in Chapter 1 when you're with Nicole in the elevator.

“We did a lot of research on mummified corpses. People that have died in the wilderness where it’s really cold, like Antarctic expeditions. They found these bodies decades later and they’re still preserved. That led to some interesting mixes for the Necromorphs. They ended up being a little bit creepier than the fresh ones. There’s something haunting about a corpse that’s lost its humanity, but where you can still see where they came from and what they were. That’s kind of where we were at with the third one.”
Sounds cool. It would be super great if DS3 is actually great and not the subpar whimpering fart of a finale I'm dreading.

Anyone getting this on PC want to be my co-op partner?

Also, looks like we can preload the game on Origin this Friday at 1PM EST. Then the game unlocks at 12:01AM EST. Sweet! That means, 9:00PM PST for me!

Add your info to the co-op list:

I'm got the PC version but it'll take me a few days to get through the single-player game before I'm ready to try co-op. Feel free to friend me on Origin if you want to try co-op and don't mind waiting a few days.

Here's some spoilered info about some stuff you unlock in the game

Having a Dead Space 2 save file unlocks Planet Cracker Plasma Cutter in bench. This plasma cutter have slight better parameters then the starting one and have all 8 circuit slots unlocked from beginning.

Finish the game on any mode to unlock four new modes: New game +, Classic, Pure Survival and Hardcore. Dead Space Legends Suit Set is available in the Suit Kiosk for New game+ and previous game only, actually it is the Engineering RIG DS2 model.

New game +: Start a new game with your completed game's inventory and resources. MK-II Overclocked parts and +3 circuits can be found throughout. Can be played at any difficulty level.

Classic: Start a game in the spirit of the original Dead Space. Only classic weapons can be built via blueprints. Co-op play is disabled; Classic aiming is enabled. Difficulty level is hard. Unlocks the Devil Horns.

Pure Survival: Start a new game where resource management is key. Enemies will not drop health or ammo. Everything must be crafted at the bench. Difficulty level is hard. Unlocks the MK-II Overclocked parts set and Mega Resources deposit.

Hardcore: Start a new game that's not for the faint of heart. You must beat the entire game without dying. You can save and continue playing, but death will reset you to the very beginning. Unlocks Retro Mode.

I've been meaning to ask this for a while. WTF is classic aiming? I don't remember it being different from 1 to 2.

With classic (dead space 1 style) your sights are not "fixed" in the center of the screen. You will notice this in the "dragging" sequences that are more chaotic with classic aiming because you don't really know what you are aiming at until you are aiming.

Your lasers bounce off walls and the floor. It seems a little more natural.

And some weapons have different reticules with classic aiming, the contact beam is coming to mind, it had 3 dots in DS1 so you get 3 dots instead of 1 if DS2 is set to classic aiming.

In DS1, the aiming laser beams were interactive, the beams would stop when they hit an object or enemy or whatever and "paint" them with little laser dots.

In DS2 and DS3, the new default aim mode setting is called Centered: the aiming lasers are not interactive, they're just kind of incidental... instead you have permanent laser dots serving as a cursor at the center of your screen at all times no matter what you're aiming at. It does help a lot on those occasions where you're been grabbed by a tentacle and turned upside down or whatever.

Apparently you can get the game from thehut.com for 19.99£ if you buy a pair of boxers too. I gotta say, that's pretty clever :lol

I love unlockables. Visceral always does some great unlockable stuff. ND did too for UC1 and UC2 but nothing for UC3 which was a disappointment :/ All devs should do this kind of stuff.

Well by God you're right. As soon as I read "dragging sequence" I remembered the curser moved across the screen. Not sure I preferred that.

All of these sound fantastic. Unlockables in games always makes me happy because they can extend the life of a game through the ways of unlocking them. Especially here, since it'll be fun to do so.

Question about that -
Are the Devil Horns like the Hand Cannon from DS2?

Alright Visceral dudes, the story trailer was great, I do like my Issac and Ellie interactions and you got my attention again.

Ha just ran through Ignition in 33 minutes, Should try to go for that 20min chevo. Even though it wasn't a great game I still wish there was some sort of interactive deal coming out for 3.

Bought the second book today too. Bout halfway through and it's decent.

The Hacker Suit was fucking badass.

I never managed to beat Ignition. I just could not get into the minigames. I finished the first one so I could unlock the hacker suit, then watched the rest on YouTube.

I did basically the same thing with Extraction because I kept putting off playing it and had to borrow a Wii. Actually with Extraction it was mostly just the fact that I don't own a Wii. I do prefer the style of the numbered games, but it was it being on a system I had no intention of buying that bothered me most. I didn't really want to buy a Wii for 1 game.

yes...most excellent.

So, I was messing around with the weapon crafting in the demo...

I made some awful stuff. How does one know what's good or not? I can see myself spending lots of time on the damn bench just crafting stuff.

Hell yeah! And it looks like we're actually getting somewhere this time. Oh man, I really shouldn't be getting hyped for this...

And I'm ashamed to admit I 100%'d Ignition and, at times, I kinda enjoyed it. Ashamed.

I wanna buy some headphones, but I haven't ever bought high end ones for my TV. What's the quality on these? I don't wanna spend more than $150 though.

For games only, the best you can get. In my office at home I have my 360, PS3, and PC all plugged into the same Mixamp sharing the headphones and mic. Compared to my Denons with a Total Bithead amp I'm not going to lie, the Denons are way better for music.

I did not get my A40s on discount or anything, I had to buy them.

I'm really into headphones, and the Astro A50's impressed me quite bit. I don't know how they'd sound for music, but they sound amazing for movies. I haven't tried the A30's, but Astro has a great reputation. I'm sure they're great cans, but I would be slightly concerned with comfort. The A50's felt nice, but that's expected with a top-of-the-line model. You can get the DS3 pair for $129.99, but you'll need to get the headset amp if you want to use it with your consoles. I recently started using a headphone amp for my daily use, and I can assure you it's worth looking into. If you're going to throw down some cash for a nice set of headphones, an amp will really take them to the next level.

I mentioned the Beyerdynamic DT770's a few pages back, but I'll throw out the recommendation again. I haven't found a more comfortable pair of headphones, and they blew my mind playing DS2 the other night. The mids are incredible, and really let you pick up on stuff you might not notice without headphones on. Turning the bass up a bit with the headphone amp also gives the music cues more boom, leading to better jumps.

Same here. I know there probably won't be, but I would like an answer to this as well.

I'd imagine so since it was a toggle in the options for the demo.

Yep. I use my Denon buds and Sennheiser cans for music. Different brands have different strengths. However, at that price range you're going to be happy with whatever you get, NTGYK.

Yes. In 2 and in the demo for 3, it's in the pause menu.

EDIT: beaten.

Wait so with hardcore we can save as many times as we want and if we die we just start from the save point or are we actually limited to a single save? And if we die we restart from there or are we allowed to save as many times as we want but once we die, the game has some way of keeping you from continuing from that save. The explanation is very vague.

Hardcore is a one life entire game run. It saves so you don't have to play the entire game at once but if you die at any point you restart it all.

I remembered it was short so I decided to run through it. I'm indifferent to Ignition, it's just DS filler for me.

It was worth it for the rooms in DS2 though, and as you said, some of those were treasure troves.

Ignition is filler. Extraction is, to quote IGN hyperbole for once, the Citizen Kane of light gun shooters. It really is fantastic.

If you ever manage to get a ps3 I think it's on the PSN store.

Where? G1? G2? What is this madness? Educate me *.*

Futureshop (although apparently no longer available so your next best bet is Ebay).

G1 is the size of normal DVD case. G2 is the size of Blu-ray case. Most people prefer G2 for Steelbook because it just looks nicer.

And yeah, Mexico also sell their own Steelbook. I am trying to order one and the guy is waiting to see if he can get me one from Blockbuster.

As codecow mentioned, the A40's aren't really made for music. They'll be good, by all means, but not on the same level of dedicated headphones.

The Astro amps controls volume, game/voice balance, and gives you EQ option. If you're going to order one of their headsets, you're going to want it. Just having EQ options can give any decent pair of headphones a deep, rich sound. I use a little Fiio E06 with my mp3 player, and it's spoiled me rotten. You'll be picking up on little things you wouldn't hear when using headphones by themselves, especially if you're listening to lossless audio files.

I've shelled out a decent amount of cash for headphones over the past few years, and I've found that audio quality at the $150+ price range isn't something you need to worry about. As long as you do a little research and check out feedback, you'll get a pair that sounds great. For me, especially when it comes to gaming and movies, comfort is the biggest issue. My ears are pretty big. Not huge or anything, but big enough for most over-the-ear headphones to cause me discomfort. Because of this, the Beyerdynamics have become my new favorite cans. The padding is firm but also has the perfect amount of give to not cause pressure on your head with a felt-like covering, the strap feels lightless on the top of my head, and my ears don't touch anything inside. It's perfect.

One more thing about headphones: burn them in. Headphones aren't at their full potential right out of the box. As you play music or pink noise through them for a lengthy period of time (I usually do about 50 hours), they'll get a much better depth of sound. When you buy a pair, you should leave them plugged into an audio source for a while.

I'm not shilling for these when I say the Astros are fantastic. I've had two previous sets of (well known brand) gaming headphones and these are in a whole different class from those. My Astro A40s are my favorite gaming hardware by a mile.

They're expensive, no doubt, but I'm confident you'd love them.

Maybe it's because I've come to terms with the fact that there will be occasional human combat, but I thought the footage from early in the game looked great.
