Rayman Legends coming to Xbox 360/PS3, all versions releasing in September

Wait for bigger install base, ensure that no version gets cut off by sales of an earlier version, maybe?

I don't know, but if they were ready to release a demo and date it for March, a September delay just for development makes no sense.

It seems like timed exclusive would help sells if anything. Are we sure of a delay for WiiU as well? I don't give a shit what platform it is on, going from release of November 2012 to Feburary 2013, now to September 2013 is bullshit.

So why the delay for the WiiU version? This makes no fucking sense.

The delay--literally--is so Rayman Legends can release on Wii U / PS3 / 360 day-one in September.

I assume negotiations with Nintendo to keep it exclusive have broken down. Rayman Legends was originally supposed to be multiplatform, but I think Nintendo tried to secure it as an exclusive.

Obviously, it didn't work.

Yeah, the more I think about it, the more the Wii U delay does not make sense.

I imagine it is getting delayed to release alongside the other versions unless Ubisoft had known the release date was incorrect for over three months.

Great that it's going to other platforms, but I don't understand why it's delayed that long for Wii U? Actually, it says that it's coming to PS3 and 360 in September, where does it say the Wii U one isn't coming out until September?

I want to believe. September is so far away :(

I guess it's a safe assumption considering it was removed from their release schedule. My question is why delay it for the Wii U if it's near completion.

London, UK — February 7th, 2013 — Today, Ubisoft announced that its forthcoming title Rayman Legends, already announced for the Wii UTM system from Nintendo, will also be released on the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft and the PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system. All versions will now hit shelves in early September 2013.

The Microsoft Xbox 360® and Sony PlayStation® 3 versions of Rayman Legends are being developed by Ubisoft Montpellier, the same team behind the Nintendo Wii UTM game. Rayman Legends has been praised for its stunning visuals and innovative gameplay by media around the world and labeled as one of the most anticipated platformers of 2013.

“We heard from many Xbox & Playstation owners and Rayman fans who told us they really wanted to play Rayman Legends on their current system”, says Geoffroy Sardin, EMEA Chief Marketing & Sales Officer. ”We decided to give the fans what they wanted while at the same time broadening the audience exposed to this innovative and memorable game.”

Rayman Legends retains the fantasy appeal of its predecessor while adding a multitude of clever and entertaining gaming modes, new characters, new environments and a new soundtrack. The award-winning team of artists, designers and composers from Origins has also returned with an advanced UbiArt engine to include multi-dimension gameplay elements, an improved lighting system and updated game rendering that elevate Rayman’s graphics to the next level.

Look for me on the local news, I'll be the guy arrested for trying to burn down a Nintendo exec's house.

Game is no doubt done and ready for WiiU but: do you want to spend money marketing a game twice with adverts, or just once? Theres your answer. Zoop-BABOW!

I can't remember ever hearing about a console exclusive losing it's exclusivity before it even launched. Final Fantasy XIII was different in that nobody at Square ever said it was going to be PS3 exclusive, I don't think?

Are there any other notable examples of this happening?

Okay, I expected Rayman Legends to be a timed exclusive, I expected it to make it's way to every other platform under the sun eventually just like its predecessor, but holy shit. Now it's being delayed entirely just so Ubisoft can port it to other systems for a multi-platform release? That's insane.

Hmm, I have no idea what to do now.

Wii U:
- Gamepad seems like a good fit, and the demo has some pretty cool gamepad elements
- Clearly was the "lead" platform
- Performance and resolution are basically guaranteed, given the demo
- Probably fewer other games to play on platform

360:
- I prefer the controller
- Better multiple profile support
- Better infrastructure for DLC and more sales on DLC so far
- It's where I have Rayman Origins (1000/1000)

(Unannounced, but likely) PC
- Performance, forwards-compatibility
- Price will probably be better
- But will almost certainly release later

hmm :/

Blah, the delay sucks. It's nice that it's multiplatform now but I just wish they could have kept the original wii u release date.

WOW. Kind of a sleazy move by Nintendo and Ubi. They marketed this as a selling point for Wii U. I know many who bought the system early just for that game.

I am not surprised in the slightest. Doesn't particularly bother me, though, Rayman for all! Can't wait to buy the WiiU version later this month.

(Wait, it has been delayed on WiiU again? Or is someone trolling?)
(Delayed to September for reals, this is crazy.)

This is extremely disappointing. The thing goes from a flagship exclusive releasing in the launch window to a delayed multiplatform game.

It'll still be an excellent title, but this is a real buzzkill, especially for Wii U owners. The system needs exclusives. Way to give folks less reasons to buy one (or not sell it).

If the Wii U version really is delayed to September, I'm going to go ahead and assume it's because Ubi realizes late ports don't sell all that well compared to games hitting multiple platforms at the same time. Now if only people would realize this when it benefits the Wii U.

Why not release the Wii U version now- still plenty of time for a September release on other platforms.

Late ports do not seem to do very well for the most part. It makes more sense from a business standpoint. Bigger Wii U userbase, 360 and PS3 sales, and potentially 720/Ps4 versions.

ULTROS!

People seem to like me because I am polite and I am rarely late. I like to eat ice cream and I really enjoy a nice pair of slacks.
Ubisoft just pretty much fucked Nintendo :lol

I expect ZombiU to be ported next

I wonder what they'll cal ZombiU on PS3 and 360. It's going to be funny if they stick with ZombiU. :p

From the very start you could tell this was going to be mufti platform- I was frankly shocked they ever confirmed it as a Wii U exclusive.
