Rayman Legends coming to Xbox 360/PS3, all versions releasing in September

Why do people think people are angry cause its mulitplatform now? Nobody cares about that (or they fucking shouldnt anyway), people are angry because a game that was done, and coming out in less than 3 weeks is now delayed 7 months.

THATS whats bullshit about this.

I'd say a delay like this is pretty unprecedented.

Though I say that and someone will go "No, don't you remember Darkened Sky?!" or something.
Dragon Quest IV at least deserves an honorary mention: full translation right there in the Japanese game that came out in November, just some quirks due to the nature of having it pulled out of the game and made into the displayed language when it wasn't meant to be. They wait until September to release it anyway.

EDIT: Actually, Dragon Age: Origins had the same exact thing happen. Slated for a Spring release, then delayed to late fall so they could get it on consoles in addition to PC.

There's a slew of people that do. Bet on it. The delay isn't bullshit. It's good business. The timing of the delay is bullshit though. You have to think they made this decision awhile ago.

Yeah, but too bad they can't do anything about it. Ubisoft's controversial decision shows how little it cares about screwing over the early adopters.

Rayman being put into U kiosks, only to lose exclusivity and be delayed is alarming. But as much as I feel it is a dick move by UBI to "delay" a clearly done product 3 weeks away from launch, one has to point the finger at Nintendo for even allowing such an absurd thing to occur.

Yes, it's only Rayman, a quality but not huge title. But what it shows regarding Nintendo and 3rd parties is pretty damn pathetic.

I was supposed to be starting preliminary speedruns of Legends by the end of this month, so this delay screws that over. I think the idea of a delay for the sole purpose of a simultaneous release when one had already been scheduled is stupid and unnecessary. It's also reasonable to assume releasing it now could have built a good word of mouth for future ports.

On another note it'll be interesting to see if I prefer playing Legends on the DS3/360 pad as opposed to the Wii U's controller's. Can't say I'm the biggest fan of playing Mario on the Gamepad...

I don't know about everybody else but it's the damn delay that really pissed me off. I had this game preordered for over 6 months and knowing that this game is finished and yet not released sucks really bad.

Ive been burned by Nintendo and 3rd parties a couple gens in a row so when i saw this Rayman game get announced as an exclusive i was weary from the jump. 1. i knew there was no way in hell it was a real exclusive as Nintendo and Ubisoft were saying and 2. I knew there was no way they would make the inevitable 360/PS3 versions take a backseat to the Wii U version.

Thats why im not disappointed in the slightest, i never expected it to come to fruition.. It would have been a huge surprise to me if this game did in fact get released as an exclusive.......for any amount of time.

It should be more that no one cares if Wii U gets it early so long as they get it at all, but I'm guessing Microsoft and Sony DO care if they don't upgrade it in the mean time. Then again I guess needing to code to not require the touch screen is part of why it's taking a long time for them (though on the same token I'd think adding Move/Kinect/Smartglass support would've been enough to go "see, new stuff!")

Honestly, it does sting that Rayman has gone multiplatform, but at least we suspected it was a possibility, so its not completely out of the blue here. I mean, we all perceive the value in having an exclusive title, especially when it's intended for a newly released platform. Ultimately, your right that the delay itself is what really sucks for the early adopters, and the timing of the announcement only made it worse. Ubisoft did an excellent job in that respect. We can only imagine some of the other developers - if put in Ubisoft's position - would have done the honorable thing by releasing the game on time for its originally intended platform.

Oh im sure there is, but those people are stupid and a minority. The people that wouldnt buy it because its not an exclusive are far less than the people who wont buy it because its coming out 7 months later....

There is zero reason you couldnt release it now for Wii U, and then have the 360/PS3/PC port come out in Sept.

Threads like this are why, as someone who works for Ubisoft and knows the kinds of people who put so much work into creating games only to see the outright shit devs get for wanting to better them and bring them to a larger audience, I can't help but dislike many GAF gamers.
Are you saying I should be happy about a 7 month delay on a game I have a paid off pre-order on?

You know, the saddest part of this thread is seeing how lowly some people think of the "new" Rayman franchise before/after the announcement; Origins was easily one of my favorite games from 2011, if not my favorite (I think the only game preventing it from definitely being my GotY is Deus Ex: HR), easily one of the best platformers I've ever played, and I'm talking Yoshi Island good. It really is a game I see aging well in the long run, and becoming a classic down the road (it already is for me and my girlfriend and the friends I also played it with).

It's a shame that the game's reputation is going to be tarnished by a few bad decisions from the higher ups, when you can easily notice from Origins and the demo/videos shown so far how much fun the developers have had working on the franchise. If anything, I wish this announcement had been handled better by Ubisoft if only to protect the franchise, specially since I love platformers and would like to see developers making the same treatment to several of their forgotten characters (Crash, Klonoa, etc... so much potential only Nintendo seems to be exploiting...)

There's a lot of bad PR around at the moment for sure. I also think that IGN tweet gave people the wrong end of the stick which didn't help at all.

I think the announcement was awful too. Would it have hurt to say "It's delayed on Wii-U but here's some good stuff to make up for it?" instead they just say "Hi everyone, isn't it great the Wii-U release is delayed so you can play it? More soon!"

Could they not have created a proper release? They've had since November last year when they probably decided to delay it for whatever reason. Bad PR in my view. They could put a bit of work into it at least when you dump us.

Why? It was an exclusive on a Nintendo platform, the platform that has unquestionably the BEST exclusive games, you know..the ones made by Nintendo.

Can we still hope for Watch Dogs and Splinter Cell on Wii U?

I can't tell if this Rayman thing is a bad sign of Ubi Soft support to come, or good.

Of course! If one thing we know about Ubisoft because of today it's that they listen to their fans! They said so themselves.

I'm sure we'll be able to Imaginez as many topics as we want to. Decent mature games, doubtful but E3 is soon lets see what smoke they blow and where.

I feel bad for WiiU owners getting shafted like this, especially when we're so close to launch, but I am so excited to able to get my hands on this now.

No, you're right. It's better to release it on one console first at full price. Wait for it to drop in price by upwards of 40 dollars, and then charge full price for it again on two other consoles 8 months later. Sounds like a winning plan.
High profile exclusive launch games often sell well. Niche games released against GTA games during the fall onslaught, not so much.

Maybe they could port it. They should just delay it another couple of months and add in Vita, 3DS, and PC. But by then ps4 and durango would be out. Might as well delay it again. How about Holiday 2014?

Edit: forgot about ipad. Early 2015.

And during this entire time not a day of work was done on Beyond Good and Evil 2.

Don't care about releasing it multiplatform but delaying the Wii U version until a time where it will actually have competition...........is illogical.

Why not? throw a couple new things in, call it a special edition and market it the same way they did for ME3 and Darksiders (and all the other ports im forgeting) on Wii U.

This is not good business. A better idea would be to leave the Wii U release in place, then release the ports in September.

I don't get it, the game is gonna get buried.

One thing that's important to keep in mind is that Rayman isn't developed with a AAA budget. So when the sales inevitably appear low, it's quite possible that targets are being hit. Many note how poorly Origins sold, but it's my understanding that the game made a profit. It did well enough to greenlight Legends.

It has just added seven more months' development costs to it, though.

Wait, I thought this was already confirmed to be a multi platform release? I guess that was just my assumption, then. Weird.

Oh wow. This is already 41 pages deep.

Because that worked wonders for those games? Didn't they sell in the hundreds and not the thousands? I can see why they did it on Wii U (it wasn't released yet), but there's absolutely no reason to do it now when all 3 consoles exist. Especially when two of those consoles dwarf the one it was supposed to be exclusive to. Makes you wonder what genius came up with the exclusive-to-WiiU plan to begin with. He was probably thinking like Nintendo and betting on the Wii U to be a smash hit.

But why would people not buy the 360/PS3 game if it came out on the Wii U now? Your not going to lose those sales, but you ARE going to lose the Wii U sales.

Well... this sucks. And also makes absolutely no god damned sense.
I thought it'd be pretty swamped when they delayed it late Feb/Early March, but at least that had a good reason.

Delaying it til September just to do a simultaneous launch during a heavy-hitter month?
Zero sense. Common, Business or otherwise. =C

Fuck you, Ubisoft. For really realz.

I have no problem with the game coming to other platforms but delaying the Wii U version until September when it's clearly finished is really annoying. We had a demo and a set release date in February already, it was ready to be released.
