Destiny Reveal Thread

Ugh, seeing gifs of Destiny makes me not want to play it at all, if it has the same floaty combat and animation from Halo, what's the point of even not making Halo games anymore.

I guess this is going to appeal to Playstation only owners the most, they finally get to play Halo on a Playstation.

This has just got to be one of the most bizarre things ever in the gaming world.

Why the F would you make this game for both current (soon to be last gen) systems? Talk about splitting your community...

Didn't even think about this, but yeah...wtf are they thinking? This "10 year game" will be available for shit that's already almost ten years old? Of course Bungie wants people to upgrade to new hardware so, why even release this on the old systems?

Because the install base for PS360 is multiple times bigger than the install base for DurangOrbis will be.

Not sure how I feel about this.

Everything I'm hearing and seeing, at least the limited amount so far doesn't exactly scream MEGA SMASH HIT!

Huge install base. It's money that one can't ignore. In the meantime, the next gen systems get some users behind them, and migrate their persistent accounts to their next gen system. Seems pretty simple if they do it that way.

Money. Piles and piles of money. Which versions do you think will sell better this xmas season: the ones released for two consoles with 140,000,000 units in the marketplace or the two consoles with maybe 2,000,000 units in the marketplace?

I like the idea of Destiny and have faith in Bungie but I have to agree with this reveal being kind of meh. I want to see some of the game in action instead of a vidoc. Hell, a CGI trailer would've been better than what we got today.

I've always fantasized about a game that is driven by the players' participation. One where the story goes X way or Y way because you and your friends were there to make it happen. Unlike a linear narrative defined by the developer, what happens next only happens because you and your clan fought that battle. In other words, a real-time dynamic RPG.

So you can guess that I'm ecstatic seeing it finally come to life, and from Bungie no less. I don't have any doubts that I'm going to enjoy it, but I do hope their next reveals are more content rich and less teasing. At this point, my only criticism from what I've seen is that it appears Bungie is still grounded in their Halo past. There are very obvious similarities (especially with weapons), so I hope to see a more distinct separation from the two as we go along.

Are we really going to get to fly through the Solar System to other planets?

This was Bungie's time to shine and they faltered

You don't do this massive ARG, get people hyped and go out with a fucking Whimper

Everyone expected a M-80, we got a Jumping Jack!

Also First impression do fucking matter
I get it there are diehard Bungie fans out there and their Pedigree can be vouched, but seriously, all this waiting for that

Be it shitty graphics, vague info, no details, and your faux hyped the media at telling everyone to get ready.. YET THEY DIDN'T EVEN SEE THE FUCKING GAME...

Just saw the ViDoc a bit ago and hooooooooooooooly shit.

Really has that Halo vibe too. I'm honestly wondering if Destiny is gonna be a better Halo than the new trilogy. Heh.

the only thing I hope for is that I wont be lagging behind if I dont play this for a week or two.
What I hate with MMO games is that you need to be there all the time to really be competative or have an advantage over the others. Hopefully this has no levels etc so people cant run around and brag how much more awesome they are just cause they dont have a life out side of gaming.

Halo 5 vs. Destiny on next gen consoles is going to be very interesting, at this point I'm going to put money on Halo 5. Visual upgrades and player count increases won't change the fact that Destiny looks like a spin-off of Halo, while Halo 5 could improve on original Halo concepts.

They're not even comparable, it seems.

Judging from their work on Halo maps and Halo 4, 343 is not capable of improving on the original Halo concepts.

I'm curious how they'll handle the competitive side of things with regards to items/levels.

That's something that Guild Wars got right and something that WoW had very wrong.

I think you're massively overestimating the "balance" and "design" aspects here. Consider this for a moment: Battlefield 3 has 32-player MP on consoles, and 64-player MP on PC. There's no cross-play. :p
Recent Battlefield games have had major issues with roadblocks and empty spaces precisely because of player counts not being consistent across the player experience on multiple platforms.

Obviously we have not seen much of Destiny, but the spaces that are popping up are incredibly small with massive unnavigable skyboxes to create a greater sense of space. To me it looks like this game is being built to be played on the 360 and PS3, and cramming extra players into that isn't as feasible or easy at it seems on paper.
