Ummmmm

Didnt SCEJ help?

yes they did

Sony Computer Entertainment
Takeshi Kajii (producer)
Takahiro Kaneko (executive producer)

Demon's Souls is an action role-playing game video game developed primarily by From Software (with assistance from SCE Japan Studio) exclusively for the PlayStation 3.
It was released in Japan on February 5, 2009 and published by Sony Computer Entertainment.

Sony had nothing to with it, some dude said

Sony own the IP, it's essentially first party but they let the rug be pulled out from under them and didn't capitalise quickly enough. The fact that the game took months to release in other regions is testament to their blind ignorance of how appealing the IP would be in a sea of one button press, auto gaming.

No one had any idea that DeS would be the hit that it was in the west. If you say you knew it would be as successful as it turned out to be, you are lying.

You are jumping to conclusions mate.

For all we know at this stage it is getting play tested on Durango and Orbis as we speak. It is impossible to judge the state of the game on any platform from this footage.

i'm not, sounds like you are. i'm basing what i said off of what we actually saw, as a isaid. what are you basing your remark off of?

I understand that the xbox and ps3 user bases are big now, but having this game on current gen really isnt doing it any favors technically.

Bungie is being very liberal with saying "meet other players out in the world" if they mean you link up at hubs and go into instances.

They say that you can run into strangers while you're playing with friends in your group. Missions could be instanced and still share connectivity. Similar to what people previously mentioned about Dark Souls and Journey. So let's say, you go on a mission on Mars with a team of 3 friends. It creates Game #563 on the matchmaking network. Let's say a game can support up to 32 players in total. It would mean the next solo guy who plays that mission might join into that game without knowing it, and the next 6-man party might also end up on that game seamlessly. It's also possible that a game instance can support different missions and objectives in a shared location, so sometimes players can fight each other if they're in different factions.

All of this can be achieved without dedicated persistent worlds outside of the hub.

So you can't be excited about the possibilities? And hope for a successful solution? We all have to instantly play the skeptic that brushes it off as another Halo mixed with some other stuff?

Yet gamers constantly funnel money into Kickstarters that show way less and have a MUCH MUCH less impressive team behind it. I don't understand the need to jump on the side of negativity/reluctance... these are just games. It seems to have a A LOT of promise and they are really pushing to try something new. The team seems to also be really passionate about working on it.

And what's with this logic of, "they have been working on it for a while, they have to show everything they have done". Game development (especially new IP) is not some straight A to B process, it's an evolution and constant iteration/diversion. The process can take a long time...

And I'm all for developers talking it up, striving for ambitious "impossible" goals. It's only healthy for the industry and playing it safe gets us nowhere... and it's not like Bungie has a horrible track record.

Again this is a lot of info as well:

I'm playing the skeptic? I'm just dealing in facts - not dreams.

Took a few of those new B.net avatars, resized them and added the Destiny logo. For those who want them:

Yeah the DemonWare leak also implied it worked like this.

The Xbox 360 struggles with 4 player coop in Reach.

Seriously think it's a huge problem limiting themselves to 7 year old technology for a 2014 game. It's not going to compare favorably to next gen stuff.

Yeah, but if they have any intention of making money on this, it needs to be on systems that have an install base.

Once the 2 other versions are out though, i will be really surprised if they manage to stick with their yearly update. Supporting 4 versions for a game like this seems crazy for one studio.

I didn't, but the early reception, feed back, etc should have been indication that the game had struck a chord with gamers and they should have seized the moment and capitalised on it but instead they left it for months, or in the EU case, over a year.

From moved onto Dark Souls and Sony were left twiddling their thumbs.

Wish they would have shown more, or any, gameplay... but so far the overall idea sounds pretty cool.

also, this is all I can think about.

I can't imagine them making more last gen versions of the games after this one.

Another thing, those character models look pretty fucking bad. They look nowhere near as good as their concept art ones.

I'm not disagreeing with you there, but it clearly shows 'work_in_progress' beside the logo. I imagine they'll smooth that over with mo-cap and higher-res in the coming months. The rifle doesn't look so hot either.

Just going to repeat this one more time because this thread is moving so fast.

Parts of this ViDoc were filmed in 2011.

mind providing time stamps? i'm not interested in rewatching a 55 min vidoc to find it myself.

Yep and it shows because the char models look like crap. I thought they would work on the next gen systems and then scale down to current gen stuff, but it doesn't seem like that's the case at all.

Bungie is a top tier dev, and really hit it home with Halo 3 for me. ODST was fantastic but Halo: Reach was simply okay in my eyes.

To be honest, it's on my radar and it sounds interesting so far especially some of the seamless stuff, but I'll obviously want to see more. The concept of the game being seamless sounds pretty awesome but the "traveler" and the look of the concept art looks very okay. I'll have to see the game in action but I don't really want a Halo clone. I want some new stuff.

So, has anyone considered maybe they didn't show a lot of gameplay because it's probably in fucking alpha (or pre-alpha) stage and isn't supposed to look pretty yet?

Fucking hell.

Animations look janky as hell :-/

game's a year way isnt it?

Havent been chipping in here much but I think its looking great, concept-wise more than anything. I dont own a PS3 or 360 so I wont be playing until it hopefully reaches PC, but it looks like the game that bridges that sort of fun "I was playing EVE Online and then someone apparead and this funny story happened!" with actually accesible gameplay. Glad Bungie of all people are the ones behind providing that experience.

It's a current gen MMO. This is as good as you could possibly expect it to look.

style can do wonders bro! but i pretty much agree and was just stating an initial reaction. little pieces of vid dont give you an idea of the bigger picture either. especially if some of this is 2 years old? that shit dont make no sense tho, why show 2 year old footage?
