If ever a "major" gaming event fit that itsfuckingnothing gif, this one did yesterday. Old footage and the revelation that they invited a bunch of media up to Seattle for a Q&A session that resulted in more "No comment"s than actual info equates to me not really giving a damn about their project anymore. I'm sure when it's mere months from release I'll get interested again, but only if it's a next gen title. Not interested in buying new full price titles for consoles I've already replaced.



Yeah, I hope it was out of necessity. If it was truly meant to hype the gaming world, I think they failed spectacularly.

I found Bungie's reveal to be pretentious and unnecessarily vague. Given that performance, I think it's safe to say that Destiny is still in early-enough development that they don't have a lot of things nailed down yet.

Their game release cycles are always announce a game a year before it's launch. Nothing new. Although I'd definitely like to see cross generation for platforms. 360/Durango and PS3/Orbis.

Based on what little they showed yesterday it pretty much cemented it that it was not coming this year.

I wasn't expecting it in 2013 anyway, the game looks nowhere near done and add to that the fact that it will come for current and nextgen platforms and most likely PC.
We are talking 2014.

That would be 10 years ago then. Give or take a year. I think real production started after Halo 3 launched which would be 07-08.

I totally expected this game to not come out in 2013. If you saw the footage from the ViDoc you would know that if the game was coming out this year it would be much further along graphically than what we saw. I fully expect it to be properly announced for next gen once those consoles are announced.

I believe full production started after Reach went gold. Jones and a very small team started working on Destiny some capacity after Halo 2 shipped. I read that in one of the many Destiny previews.

I bet once the consoles are officially announced that they will tell us more.

Well it's a shooter and we never saw any shooting, so I'd hesitate to call that gameplay.

They were bored and wanted some attention.

The feedback/hype generated from the reveal is probably helpful to the development process.

To be brutally honest, those ground textures and foliage in that shot look no better from something released on the Wii. If you gave me that screenshot and told me that was a Wii game, I would have believed you 100%.

Even at such an early stage in development, the horrendous quality of that image just scares me.

Could be Alpha footage, or it could be what I mentioned. One console-maker came in and wanted them to blow the doors off their console announcement event, which meant just showing a few very old clips in the vidoc.

I said in a previous post that they think they are as big as GTA, but they do not have the brand recognition. To the general public Destiny is nothing

The whole time I was watching the reveal trailer the first game that came to mind was Borderlands. This game seems to be a very large, more pretty version of it.

One thing to keep in mind though is that it is a rather ambitious MMO (memory heavy) on consoles with pretty forward looking technology (memory heavy), lots of customization (memory heavy), and long draw distances (memory heavy).

They honestly might just be having severe RAM issues and cutting texture resolution and animation detail as a result.

I mean, this kind of running is also reminiscent of what you do in an MMO for performance reasons (notice how they look kind of floaty and like they're not really interacting with the ground/stairs):

I do expect it to look somewhat better on current-gen by release, but I'm not sure it will actually be miles ahead of this, as otherwise I feel they probably wouldn't have shown that scene.

A lot of the longer panoramas (that aren't from game perspective) might just be free camera mode in the engine instead of gameplay.

It's a funny announcement, I think it was pretty obvious based on the vidoc and what they showed journalists it's not really very close, but the inclusion of PS3 and 360 SKUs made me think twice.

I won't have a PS3 or 360 next year, so I really hope it comes to PS4 then.

From the way Jeff from Giantbomb made it sound, it seems like they cut out a part of the stuff they showed the press last week. I'm wondering if there was supposed to be a gameplay showcase but it got cut for reason x.

I wouldn't be surprised though if when E3 rolls around, they announce a Fall release date though. The game has been in development for 6 years or so now.
