Curious to see if Nintendo can steal some thunder off Sony's console reveal with announcements for their portable device.

In Japan? Maybe, but it's not like there's much left Nintendo could announce, short of Persona 5, a mainline FF or remake that the 3DS isn't getting.

Yeah in all honesty I expect this one to be a by the books scheduled release preview with no significant surprises.

Perhaps a portable Metal Gear would raise a lot of eyebrows? Considering Nintendo's never had much luck with this series.

I hope for a big update including an OS overhaul.
Just put Miiverse on my phone and 3DS already.

This is what I hope for everytime.

Though it seems more likely they would've talked about this at the last one and not at a 3rd party announcement Direct.

I just want NNID's to be linkable to your 3DS and for the VC games you buy on Wii U and 3DS to be mirrored 100%.

That's probably asking too much though...

So Cheesemeister pointed out something interesting on Twitter a short time ago, and I notice it's not been posted here yet...

@Cheesemeister3k
#StarFox is 20 years old today, originally released in Japan on February 21st, 1993. http://www.nintendo.co.jp/n02/shvc/fo/index.html

Okay, so this is a 3rd Party focused Nintendo Direct, but that doesn't preclude something related to this being announced. Particularly considering how Hideki Kamiya mentioned he was interested in working on a Star Fox title...

Do you remember how Nintendo recognizes anniversaries that aren't Super Mario or Zelda? Hint; they don't.

I don't honestly think it's designed to steal thunder. I think it'll mainly just push the next Layton and all the announced Japanese games coming in the next 3-6 months

Hopefully a Wii U surprise direct right after with the New Starfox in development at platinum games.

It will not happen, but if they'll announce DQXI as a 3DS exclusive, considering that this Direct is for JP market, they could easily steal that thunder.
We are talking about JP were we know how strong the portable market (3DS market...) is, and I'm not sure about the actual (just actual after the conf, note...) appeal of PS4 for JP market

the Kirby 20th anniversary was better than Mario and Zelda's 25th ones combined.

Don't exagerate, the 25th Zelda anniversary had worlwide concerts, free game (FSAE), remake of the best game of all time, Skyward Sword badass editions and golden Club Nintendo nunchuk, free OSTs, etc...

Kirby didn't even got something in Europe!

Edit: On topic, don't expect something 1st party ffs! I bet DQ7 DLC and MH4 something.

Ah shoot, I saw this earlier today and forgot about it due to my mind being filled with Sony.

So I stayed up, and now at 4:15 AM, I decide to finally get sleep, and nope - Nintendo Direct :(

Ear of the Fox direct incoming?

Cores, shaders and BIOS oh my!
They might show Gyrozetter since it was in this week's magazines.
Level 5 stuff are going to be in too I guess.
Monster Hunter as others said.
They're already dominating handheld Japan, what could they possibly announce we don't know of? Probably nothing.
It's probably too soon for Dragon Quest.
I do want to see more of the existing games though, so it's all good.
People should probably accept most of the WiiU stuff will be at E3, not sooner.

Sorry to be rude, but fuck the 3DS. Nintendo you need to sort out Wii U, pronto. You need to be having non stop Wii U directs to show us what you are doing about the situation. The 3DS is fine.

I've come to accept that they are leaving the WiiU to die. The 3DS seems to be getting better though, they know the score when it comes to the handheld bizz

Iwata walks out dressed as Cloud, including an absurdly large Buster Sword. Says "Final Fantasy VIIr", drops the mic and walks away. A single trailer concludes the presentation.
