Vita PSN Game & Service Thread | February 2013 | The most desirable handheld in Japan

Interesting stuff from if IGN interview with yoshida

I pressed Yoshida about day-one functionality; will PS4 and Vita support Remote Play the first day PlayStation 4 hits the market? “I will be heartbroken if it doesn’t [work] day one,” he answered. “So day one, my expectation… we have to have all [PS4] games work on PS Vita, unless it’s a camera-only game.”
Yoshida stated that Gaikai is currently working with SCEI in particular “to make sure that the latency [problem common with an endeavor like this] is minimum.”

Sounds good to me

I think you're misreading it. Vita will be able to handle transfers from it to PS3 and it to PS4, but PS3 content is not transferable to PS4. The only real exception would be stuff like PS1 classics, which pretty much have their own emulator per system.
Actually, in the VentureBeat interview Shuhei Yoshida opens for the possibility that digital games may transfer from the PS3 to the PS4, but they'd first have to see what can be emulated and then decide exactly how they're going to handle it.

So I was checking my email today and I got a $6 refund from Amazon for the Vita I purchased on Black Friday. Anyone else get this? It's listed as a "Goodwill Refund", I'm not really sure what it's about.

I just checked and I also got a $6 refund. I bought the Assassin's Creed bundle the day it came out.

Part of me is REALLY excited about this massive increase in Vita/PS4 cross-functionality, but another part of me is really worried about what this means for Vita as its own thing. I don't want Vita to be relegated to ONLY being a Wii U Gamepad type of thing. I want it to continue being the awesome portable game system it is.

worst case from this ps4 thing is you won't see any big AAA games on the vita. (this might have been the case even if the ps4 didn't support it in general after this year.)
the budget difference between a ps4 game a vita game alone would warrant making games on the Vita if the Vita sales pick up thanks to the ps4 connectivity.

PS4 remote play is a blessing and a curse, it may generate more sales or not but it adds tremendous value to the Vita for people that are buying a PS4, which could greatly increase the longevity of the Vita. However, it will mean software adoption for the Vita could plummet a la the PSP and thus titles are not brought over to the Vita outside of niche and indie stuff.

I'm okay with that

Does Sengan have good enough gameplay to justify picking it up for those who aren't enticed by basketball-sized jello boobs?

This is what I'm hoping for. Seeing Yoshida being so behind the remote play is really promising, although he's just one man. I really hope they get it going from the get go.

It's a feature I'd kill for - mostly because my wife is fine with me playing on a portable, but as soon as something is on the TV she gets mad ... I dunno it's a double standard. If that would expand into being able to remote play anywhere as long as you have wifi, that would make it a HUGE selling point.

Also, I understand people are all about backwards compatibility, everyone has a backlog and everyone has old games but I wasn't expecting them to be completely backwards compatible, but if they have a solution via streaming or something then that's cool.

If not, whatever - old game is old. I'll buy a PS4 mostly for PS4 games, and being able to stream them to my Vita. My PS3 still works so eh, whatevs. The key thing will be if they get all the digital stuff to transfer over, but I guess that's also coming to the same problem of it being developed to run on Cell, while the new hardware might not be able to emulate it directly.

Hey hey hey, there's nothing wrong with basketball-sized jello boobs. I really want to import it though :X

I am absolutely, horrifically terrible at Lumines. One of those games I desperately want to be good at too. :'(

Puzzle games in general to be honest.

There are some guides with some pretty important hints for how to play. You should look it up and then just lose yourself in the music :) You'll get better automatically ;)

I agreed with you, however I don't think that will be too beneficial for VITA, cos just like what zulux21 said, if there is really an option to play ANYWHERE, there will be no point to develop big AAA game or multi-platform console experience game for VITA. Which is not good for some people (like me) who only own handheld device.

I was hoping for the design to be a bit more scary, btw I heard from somewhere (not sure if true) that this "Chaos" design and "Law" design is still a level 1 form and not the final form, when player go toward sacrifice or saving.

Sorry, what was that Killzone Mercenary talk a few pages back about? Did they delay it to after PS4 launch?

No, they haven't said anything about Mercenary. As far as we know it's still Sep 17. The only new piece of Killzone release news is that Shadow Fall is a PS4 launch title, so likely November.

You'd think so wouldn't you? This isn't the first time I've played a Lumines game (not even the first time I've played this Lumines game, I had it back at launch) and I just don't seem to improve. Mainly because I struggle to keep cool under pressure (exact same problem I have with Surge) which leads to me thinking I'm playing Tetris and putting things in columns. :p

The queue in these games barely ever registers in my head.

And yeah I've seen the guides.

Nothing else you're interested in, huh?

Having you order it would be a gooood thing! I'm getting it from Amiami. Cheap and efficient.

I will buy stuff in mid-late April

Screw cheap, Yes-Asia gimme free toy junk and a superior FedEx option. I don't care I have money (that I usually waste too early in the month)

Soo...Destination PlayStation...What are all of your thoughts on the chance of (significant) Vita announcements?

I will keep my hopes low regardless, but was wondering what others think.

if you consider significant vita announcements as games on par with killzone in budget then very very low.

if you consider significant vita announcements as indie games making the jump to the vita then decently high.

I hope we don't see anything new at all ( just because seeing Takao getting super mad and declaring PS4 as the devil and vita #1 enemy amuse me to no end)

Destination PlayStation is a retailers event.

I doubt Wal-Mart will order more PSVitas this holiday because well received indie game 29 is coming to Vita exclusively through PSN.

Very, very low. If announcements will be made, it'll be at E3 imho.

I am really excited for the Vita remote play with the PS4, but how are you going to play games with only shoulder buttons and no L1/2 R1/2?

It's very cumbersome for me to use the back touch pad on the PS1 classics for the L2/R2 buttons.

Disappointmentton.

Yeah, this is why I have learned to keep hopes very very low.

I am happy with the remote play news last night. Really hope it works out the way I imagine it in my head.

it never does

So Vita will stream PS4 games via remote play day 1? Pretty damn cool...

But Ive been hearing that Gaikai streaming of PS1-3 titles would be made available to Vita eventually. Can anyone confirm this?? Its far more interesting to my ears.

Contray to GAF belief, I don't think this would turn the Vita into a screen with buttons but just make the overall Vita picture that much more exciting

- All PS4 games via remote play
- PS 1,2,3 via Gaikai streaming
- Growing indie game support
- AAA Vita releases

This could make Vita a MONSTER by 2016 (even earlier IMO) if done right

But we know sony gon fuggit up! lol

If I heard and interpreted correctly, they eventually want you to be able to stream PS1-3 to any capable device, whether it be Vita, tablet or whatever else is out.

that may be but I wouldn't be surprised if some indie developers took the time to announce their games were coming at that event. I would assume most would make their announcement at PAX east or GDC next month though.

That was my impression as well.

I was not under that impression. To me they said that your smart phones and what not would be able to be used to jump on the psn or pstore to buy stuff for the ps4. That you could use them as a second screen lime microsoft smart glass. At no point did I feel they were trying to say ps1/3 games would stream to all devices.

I haven't seen any official reports say anything to the contrary either, just that you will be able to use your iphone as a second screen for more info with a ps4 game.
