iOS Gaming Thread February 2013: Where some have halitosis so packs of gum matters

Does Shantae play well on iOS?

as about as well as you'd expect. They did rebalance it (make it easier) for touch though.

Finished the room. Fantastic experience that can only happen on a touch device. So satisfying twisting and moving everything.

Only real fault for me is that texture popins and tiny view on iphone makes it really hard to figure out what to do next. I eventually just waited for the hint.

AFAIK you can only get up to 25 free utopium (either from mining, trees, or filling heart bar) per day.
The 25 limit is from trees only. The mine is 1 or 2 and hearts have no limit (only how bored you get doing it).
According to the TA forum If you see 10 coins from a tree you've hit that days tree limit.
I've definitely had more than 25 in one day.
The new content didn't unlock for me, which they acknowledge as a bug so I've left it for now as I hit 150/155 earlier this week.

Year Walk is superb.

I'm not fond of horror things, but I'm loving this (I wouldn't call it a horror game but it's certainly scary).

So atmospheric!!!!
Jumped in bed tonight two times, last one waking up wife....she wasn't pleased.

Had to read carefully the companion app and get 'into' those nordic legends to solve a puzzle.
And this morning I already had a lenghty conversation with some friends of mine about how to solve some things and their meanings.

Was probably some years since that happened.

First thing I'll do when I'll finish the game is to check other Simogo games.

How's Hell Yeah! on iOS? The new game seems simple enough and worth it for $1 to me.

It's balls. Super sloppy, really phoned-in, and just generally crap. It's gone none of the humour or hyperactive energy of the console game. Avoid it.

INSTEAD! Get this: The Silent Age, a free point and click adventure with Day of the Tentacle-style time travelling puzzles.

I can't remember who here created it, but while on the front page of the app store I noticed that Stick To It is the first in the list of "New & Noteworthy"! Congrats to whoever it was in here!

I'm terrible when it comes to horror things, and I'm not really that big of a fan. Is Year Walk too terrifying? Also, how violent is it?

And does it work on an iPad 1?

Cuyahoga! Folks, we have Neogaf royalty in the house. If you know Dudebro.....

Fuck yeah! I just finished 10,000,000. I know I'm late to the party but, man, that was cool. I can't believe I spent a total of seven and a half hours in the dungeon. I was only playing it in 5 minute snippets.

That's one cleared from the backlog!

I am still to finish it, I only play it on my iPhone so 1-2 runs a time, got all the stuff maxed so now it's just about hitting the high score.

So whats the deal with appshopper? Is it still not updated and back on the store? I still have it on my iphone but it never sends me notifications for price drops anymore.

yeah was pimping it earlier, think it was made by a small chinese studio or something, it's not amazing, but definitely a step above your average shit gameloft brawler and its a buck.

It's pretty straightforward. No puzzles or platforming, just brawling. I was surprised at how much I was enjoying the combat though.

At first glance this game screams Chinese action game with huge pay walls. Chillingo rebalanced the game really well, it's quite fair. Maybe a little on the easy side even.

I might even buy the ninja character for a buck.

Ah, I downloaded this a while back but never played it. I might give it a shot tomorrow.

NinjaGorilla helped make it and therefore you should buy it. Simogo rock and they need our support.

Just downloaded it myself, looking forward to getting stuck in tonight.

NinjaGorilla is from Simogo?

I WANT TO HUG YOU PERSONALLY :p !!!

Year Walk is AWESOME...extend hugs to the whole team.
Your Metacritic score is well deserved and then some.

Last time I heard it won't be updated ever.
They will publish ANOTHER NEW app to comply with Apple, but it's not known what it will be missing so I advice to keep the actual Appshopper app installed (it will continue to work).

The rule they broke was the one about "appearing to be an app store," or something. This one: "Apps that display Apps other than your own for purchase or promotion in a manner similar to or confusing with the App Store will be rejected."

If they just changed all their "buy" links to "go to App Store" they'd probably be fine.

Pixel People got a pretty nice update. Everyone gets five free land, expansion costs are lowered (my next one went from 30m+ down to 17m), and the vacant position slots in buildings will show you the formula for jobs you've already discovered.

I really want to give Year Walk a chance because I love Simogo games so much.

But the subject matter is "scaring" me away...

Hmm, guess I'll watch a few videos and see what it's all about.

Thanks for pointing this out - we hadn't noticed it yet. Here's hoping that it will eventually show up on the front page in the states as well :D

Sorry, it wasn't exactly at the start (I wasn't sure how "New & Noteworthy" works) but it's third icon from the left scroll across if you're portrait on an retina iPad and first icon on landscape if you scroll once (otherwise it's at the far right of the screen if you don't).

Not sure how these work, whether they're completely different across regions (I'm in Australia) or as per app launches, it hits here first and then appears in the US, but it's good visibility nonetheless! Well done :)

PS. Twang the Fox is Australian? It's under the "Made in Australia" category. I thought it was an NZ thing. Also interesting to see is Ski Safari is Aussie, too.

If you do that, you'll ruin it.

I bought it after watching the AppSpy review and I actually just beat it.

Really glad I did... would have missed out on an beautiful journey.

I could have done without a few of the cheap scares, but the whole thing is brilliant. The Companion app really is a great idea, explains lot's of the mysteries behind the lore and gives the game deeper meaning.

Simogo never ceases to amaze me. You could definitely tell this was a passion project.

I just completed Year Walk.

Outstanding.

At last a truly original story and setting, as I rarely experienced in my gaming career.
Execution was awesome.
Companion app and its use was pure genious.

It glued me on the iPad screen and had me think about it when I wasn't playing.
Ending was brilliant.

GOTY (and more) material for sure.
Checking other Simogo games right now.

Congrats to everyone involved in this labor of love.

I hope Apple realizes that Appshopper drives sales on the App store perhaps more than any other app. Incredible that they took action against them. How naive.

Hah, yeah, I probably solely buy apps via Appshopper these days. I skim the new releases games list on the Appshopper app every day, because I'll be damned if I can find a list of new releases in the App Store. Then there's the wishlisted price drop stuff too, obviously. Basically all my purchases are probably affiliating to them :lol

Add that to the fact that the App Store is garbage for finding content and highlighting new content. I swear I've seen junk like Articles and Smurfs, amongst other repeats, listed in New Apps over and over again. Apple is hardly objective when determining what to promote, whereas AppShopper is completely so. Maybe that's the problem.

I would surely buy fewer apps if I couldn't use AppShopper.

I'm still not sure what Year Walk is lol. horror game? Adventure game? puzzle game?

Think The Room meets Sword&Sworcery meets Myst meets Little Inferno :)
It's a (really original) adventure game with some Myst-like not too difficult puzzles.
I wouldn't call it an horror game but it's certainly scary and the tone is very mature.
It's also a very 'tactile' and immersive experience....while feasable it wouldn't be the same on another platform (like a PC using a mouse).

I made a really shitty Year Walk OT with links to a couple of reviews, but it was quickly drowned out by 8GB of GDDR5.

Sorry if this has already been asked (skimmed last few pages) but does anyone know when FFT: War of the Lions is getting the graphics/improvements update to the Android version?

I'm also waiting for this. Played through the tutorial, but haven't started the campaign yet.

Some people were asking about the daily App Store Update videos being housed in one spot. You'll be able to find them here, in this playlist:

https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLGmTrX1unTaYRFPgMr2LGP48NhBsLmkM8

The playlist is in IGN's mobile games-dedicated Youtube channel that I operate and curate.

I won't keep spamming this thread (it doesn't really move the needle for IGN anyway) - I've just been hitting you guys with this repeatedly this week because you've been my guinea pigs, helping me sort through what does and doesn't work on video.
