Uncharted 3 multiplayer going free to play this Tuesday

They should make Playstation All-Stars free to play so people will actually play it.

Though I have no idea how they'd monetize a game like that.

By selling playable characters one by one? Base game would include 1 or 2 free ones to get you started. Obviously it's too late for this game, but perhaps someone will try something like that one day.

Is it the same like the Killzone 2 MP part which was free for download? I ask because you could only level up to a specific level. If you wanted to level up more you had to buy/unlock the MP part.
Guess not. Just free to play for a short amount of time and then probably a "thanks for playing. Buy now." message at the end of the time.

The problem with that is, how do I know which characters I want to buy if I've never played as them?

But that gives me an idea:

Every week, four characters are selected at random to be playable for everyone. Or... maybe the four random characters are different for everyone, so you don't wind up just fighting the same four characters over and over again every week. If you find that you like a character, then you can pay to unlock him permanently.

That way you get to try out all the characters, but you still have a reason to buy them. Plus it gives players a reason to keep coming back every week.

Maybe charge like $5 per character, with costumes at $2 each. But also provide the option to just pay $60 to unlock everything that you'd get on the disc if you just bought the game, so all 20 original characters plus their first costume. And any of that content you buy individually will go towards that $60. If you buy 2 characters, then you'd only have to pay $50 to unlock the other 18. If you buy 12 characters, then you don't have to pay anything extra to unlock the other 8.

Of course that $60 wouldn't include Kat and Emmett, or any other future DLC characters.

And I don't think it's too late for PS All-Stars. I mean this is a thread about Uncharted 3 going f2p.

Nobody ever answered you, but yes you can unlock stuff as you progress. Ever since the summer when they added stat hats, they also went ahead and allowed everyone to buy their unlocks with real money instead of having to level up to unlock them. So you can make the choice of buying a weapon early so you don't have to grind it out (if you don't have the time) or unlock it the free way.

This is part of why making it Free to Play makes sense now because all of the unlocks, as well as stat hats, can be bought via real money. Microtransactions basically.

Everyone's been suspicious of it becoming F2P because of the microtransactions ND introduced above.
That's how it rolls for me in GAF. :p

Thanks! I have been playing this for quite a while even if I'm pretty bad at it, but it's pretty disheartening to see jacked up people and not knowing how the hell they got these guns. I'm not sure how much I'll spend on this, but at least now I know. :p

And yes, the UC3 models did look a bit weird compared to UC2 ones, seeing them side to side though, geez.

I'm guessing the paw is for us buyers/players that played the game before the F2P change.

how does that happen?

That scene in the final game takes place in a completely different time of the day and it's just simply different lighting. And it's a friggin' prerendered cutscene anyway. Fools keep posting that picture.

New patch later tonight in preparation of the relaunch tomorrow. They're doing a full leaderboard reset.

lol at these people taking 4 years to figure out the objective medals in UC2 and UC3 are fucking garbage. I don't know how I feel about them removing all the killing-related medals. I mean...it's a shooter, and shooting is important even in objective modes. :p I think the money increases should be even bigger.

Pre-1.05 U2 MP was one of the best gaming experiences I'll probably ever have. Of course, playing with the awesome PS3 GAF made everything a million times better. One of my favorite things that we did in the beta was to allow the opposing team to go 40-0 on us for the first half of the match and then still come back to win it with a score of like 43-50. I also found it funny how other teams would always try and rush the power weapons and we would still annihilate them with our starting pistols.

I really hope that TLoU's MP is more reliant on map awareness and cat & mouse gameplay like U2 was.

Oh, Irish you know it won't. Those days of beta-1.04 Uncharted "IT'S GOLD, NAUGHTY DOG, GOLD!" 2 multiplayer is long-gone. All hail our not listening to fans and fucking up shit that didn't need to be fucked up to chase the Call of Duty dollar multiplayer lords. :(

UC3 summer beta was as close as it got. And then... Yeah. Naughty Dog's collective boneheaded decisions regarding multiplayer has really made me question their quality as designers.

The worst thing about the UC3 MP for me is the aiming. After the way UC2's aiming system was perfected I just couldn't play UC3 MP without getting motion sickness. It's a pretty decent MP suite though all things considered, especially for free.

why would they change it?

Glad this is happening. I didn't buy uc3 cuz I just find the stories of the last two alright, but liked the mp in 2. Hope the player base is still big.

They'd have to pay me to play this shit. So happy Naughty Dog only makes you play one game of MP for the trophy. Last time it was sprinting around meleeing or spraying in circles at bulletsponge enemies.

Though this all sounds awesome I'm not sure exactly how this is all going to work.

Will it be like Dust 514 with a F2P model or will this just be the MP section of UC3 made free to PS Plus subscribers?

i think levels will be capped
you wont go beyond level 15 for example if you dont pay to unlock the level cap
(i suppose that's how it'll work)

The lighting only accounts for some of it, her face is very different in detail. They dropped a ton of stuff in the final version.
....and like you said, it's a pre-rendered cutscene, so who knows what the hell the is going on for that to happen.
It's nothing major, it's a just a strange thing to happen.

The fact that the betas of both uncharted games were SIGNIFICANTLY better than the end product should tell ND to listen to their own employees rather than "the gamer".

Nah, they improved a fair deal of things from the beta of U2 to the final product. Of course, I'm not sure who they were listening to when they decided to completely unbalance the product 4 months after release.

And do things that people said were fine in their own playlist leaving the rest of us that liked how the game played with 90% of the playlists.

Why, 1.05, why? Good lord, why? After 1.05 hit NO ONE came out of the maps starting spawn in U2. How the fuck was that a good idea?

Yeah, my bad. That was more in the lines of UC3.

Headless chicken sprinting *cringe*

While in the beta sprinting was balanced so it was actually a tactical move, with limited turning.

But yeah, I don't get why they change based on the complaints....

And then leave wallhack skills on too.

Wait, I used to own the game and redeemed the online code.

What happens if I want to play the free to play MP only thing? Am I still restricted by level cap

If your code is in your account that you're playing on, no.

Otherwise, yes.

The code is a "service" thing that basically unlocked the multiplayer when this wasn't F2P. Now they're kinda removing that but putting a level cap on the free-no-online-pass players. You won't be affected by that with the online pass in your services list.

This needs "US ONLY" in the title.

No it doesn't. If it's going free to play it's most likely free-to-play in other regions. Where the hell are you getting the free-to-play change is only for the US?

Thanks! Yeah, only reason why I asked is because I think I was still hit by the cap when the same thing happened with KZ3.

I could be wrong though.
