So with this being cross gen I guess there's a chance for some 1080p/60fps goodness like our PC brothers are used to playing?

I haven't played AC3 yet but I've played 1 & 2, is 3 really that bad? Seems like a really big disappointment for a lot of people.

AC3 turned me off completely from the series. The game was so disjointed and uninteresting.

2 will remain one of my favs this Gen based on soundtrack alone though.

Even then the games mechanics infuriated me alot of the time. Jumping off in odd directions. Climbing walls when I'm trying to just run down the street.

You've nailed it man. ACII was the best and most exciting one. I though AC 1 was all right and soldiered through it, but AC II was grand.

One of my biggest issues with AssCreed 3 is how bland and uninspired the soundtrack is. Unlike Kyd's work, there's nothing that make the tracks stand out above the game itself and pull you into the world; the music is just... there. An unimaginative background presence you subconsciously acknowledge but that offers nothing to appreciate. Compare Through the Frontier to Home in Florence.

There's two tracks I've downloaded, the main theme and ''Fight Club''. While there are many memorable themes from II (and others of the series), Fight Club is one of my favourite pieces in the series. It fit the setting and pumped up gameplay and cutscene alike.

The main problem is that it's a mess, it's like each idea was thought out from an individual team, and they then tried to mash them all together without a clear direction.
On top of that, the setting is really dull for an AC game, they don't make good use of American history, beside some random name dropping, and the cities are by far the worse any AC has ever had.
Then you put in an especially non-sensical story (even for AC standards) and a terrible, terrible character that is a black hole for charisma, happy to
fuck over his own people just to help the Patriots
, even though it doesn't really make sense for the character (i guess they were going for cheap fan service?).

Oh and did i talk about the glitch fest that it is yet?

I would totally buy a next-gen remaster of Ezio Trilogy. I'd buy the PS3 version but I heard it's installation disc in that case, no sale.

Pretty much sums up my problem with AC3 and its sourface-looking protagonist.

Thanks for answering UrbanRats. I didn't quote your post due to the spoiler but it's disappointing to hear the locale is kind of dull. I mean, I still remember seeing the Frontier video walkthrough and thinking damn this looks pretty cool.

I have heard that the final game on consoles ran nothing like in that video too.

If Ubisofts answer to 'why couldn't I play the whole game as Haytham?' is to get me playing his father in this sequel.... day one all is forgiven.

Just lose the damn aliens. Nobody cares.

Yup. Fight Club is by far the best track but the overall feel was still lacking. There is no one better than Kyd.

Yes, as far as overall feel goes, when I think Assassin's Creed, I think of running over rooftops in Firenze and being amazed at how good the series had become already. With these little sounds in the background and the aesthetic of it all. Or the rotation around Ezio and Frederico on top of a church and the logo and ''Ubisoft presents'' coming on top of it. AC III was ambitious but rushed, did not run properly, and I feel as Ubisoft Montreal has focused on all of AC, Far Cry and Watch_Dogs, and the series has seen yearly releases, they haven't been able to put their full talent in a game like they have earlier in the AC series. The modern day story was also really nice and intriguing, then they had to rush the games out,

I just want Assassins Creed to get a small break and give itself time to evolve and row more. Enough of this yearly BS.

Even AC3 was a disappointment to me.

Ah, forgot about that, the soundtrack is alright, but a HUGE step down from one of Kyd's best works (AC2).

I think the frontier is one of the best things, in that the tree climbing feels really cool and visually it looks incredibly natural, despite being very easily traversable.
The bad news about it, is that there's not much taking place in it, aside from very throw away side stuff.

I wish Connor had more Natives related moments, so they could put the frontier to good use, because nearly every moment spent in Boston or New York was really dreadful, for me.

No kidding. They even ditched the Revelations theme which was supposed to be the new series theme after Earth.

But Kyd was busy working on Darksiders 2 and some other game. I guess he won't have to work on DS3 since THQ is dead and no one has the IP :(

But the soundtrack wouldn't have fixed all the wrongs with AC3. I just beg that this new game is closer to AC2.

I think that early moment of the game was the one time my ears took notice. It's a shame Balfe phoned it in so egregiously as I actually didn't mind (some of, at least) his contributions to Revelations' OST.

I always found soundtrack argument kind of weird. I love game music and the AC franchise, but I only found 1 or 2 tracks per game to be memorable, including both AC2 and AC3.

It's more about the package as a whole and how they add to the atmosphere unconsciously. I couldn't really hum more than a couple songs either off the top of my game, unlike The Legend of Zelda games for example. But when I listen to the soundtrack as a package, I am reminded of many nice pieces that were in the background, subtle, but give me a good feel and nice memories. I still find Nintendo games to be the best in general, and there are many games with great licensed music (Sleeping Dogs' Ninja Tune Radio comes to mind, NHL07 and 08 with Wolves at Night and I Knew You Before, many open world and racing games really, GTAs, Saints Row, PGR, etc.) but AC has nice overall original soundtracks.

From reading these posts one would think AC3 was a horrible game. It really wasn't that bad.

It's a good game, I had fun and don't regret my purchase, but it performed badly and didn't meet the (high) bar that AC II and Brotherhood set. Though aside from performance issues, it hangs in there with AC R (for gameplay) and the original AC (it had better story elements, was more intriguing and the story wasn't rushed to tie all the loose ends - it was promising. Though I liked many parts of the AC III Animus storylines, Haytham Kenway's character in particular was memorable).

it was good but had so many issues that the more we think about the more soured we get. not only did they change things that didn't needed to be changed from the Ezio games but the way the story ended was like a slap to the face of people were still invested in the lore.

I'm honestly wondering what's the reason for exploring this ancestor in relation to the modern era?
Abstergo is left crippled after 3, unless it's William trying to find a key to saving or bringing back Desmond as its the only way to deal with Juno.

Though I like that the Animus Encyclopedia 2.0 that I got from Ubiworks does mention Haythem's father and his Falling out with him.

Good lord, didnt 3 just come out?? They are really trying to beat us over the head with this franchise, bad move IMO. I need a break! (will probably buy day one...)

These will just keep rolling, regardless of quality. People keep buying them by the truckload.

Clearly the series left its fans behind, but Ubisoft couldn't care less.

How so? The problem of AC3 was too much crap being put in and those half-assed. Didn't really see anything that was a huge departure from the series.

I'm excited for Black Flags. As someone up-thread mentioned it is awesome that we have a AAA franchise that mines history. I hope they don't abandon that for pure fantasy / sci-fi / what-have-you.

I feel like this series should be named Assassin's Greed. In any case, this will be the first AC game I won't be picking up at launch - 3 was just terribad.

No longer boycotting the Wolfenstein franchise
I still don't understand why they are numbering the game...jeez.

They probably credit the numbering of AC III as helping its significant increase in sales, so they're doing it again.

I like how Shawn mentions in AC3 how he'd like to go as far back in Desmond's memories as the first civilization. Instead, we get a game only going back two generations.

This is like very stupid. Assasins Creed IV being aprequel to 3 in the same generation than the last 5 games one year after the last fan-panned installment ditching every trace of assassination and focusingon zOMgPIRATESSOAWESOME.

I'm ashamed of having faith in this franchise.

Patrick, you're really missed.

I really appreciate the patience of those people who actually managed to finish Assassins Creed 3. I really do. Those people can face anything in life and tackle any obstacle if they were able to finish that hot pile of garbage. It still boggles my mind how anyone could attempt to finish this game..

From Sequence 9 on to the end it was easy to bring myself to finish it, I really was into it. Though it does take a time to get to Connor, and then while it doesn't start slow (I like early life bits like with Ezio, it shows the character before he was what is for the rest of the game) it does have its down period a bit after the start and for quite some time.

I'll wait until it hits $20. AC3 is a complete disappointment and buggy as fuck. I think they're about 3-4 patches in and the game is STILL fucked up. Cock blocked me from my Platinum trophy after putting 50+ hours into it. They expect me to do that ALL over because they can't fix a simple glitch.

The naval missions are amazing though. Which is the only reason why i'll give this one a chance.

So this will be competing with Watch Dogs this holiday won't it? If I were Ubi I'd make them both into biannual series that trade off.

Though I guess with ACIII selling well there's no real pressure to do that.

My favorite ACB sound track set against my favorite stage:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pbd5DoiuUA8

I love the Youtube comment though:

>Give weapon that does incredible damage but takes life away.

>Make 20 guards chase after you who can also run faster than you.

>Create mission where you can't take damage.

Scumbag Ubisoft

This mission is a breeze (and fun once you figure out the path) in comparison to that shitty last sequence on AC3.
