Microsoft might have found more gold if they have timed exclusive DLC for both Respawn's new game and CoD. I'm going to assume that Battlefield 4 DLC will be for Sony as it was this gen.

Please people, ZERO chance of this. Fifa is like, one of the top 3 selling games in the world I think (AFAIK wouldn't it be 2nd only to COD?)

To cut off half potential next gen sales? No chance. If there is any exclusive it would be far more minor, or maybe something new like respawn.

This!

People are getting carried away with this .

Timed / exclusive dlc at most, if this rumour is even true.

Two copies sold? That's not a bomb guys, stop trolling!!!
Mmmh, I think it's just about exclusive DLCs, just like Destiny on PS4. I'm not seeing FIFA / Madden /etc. being exclusive, not even for a limited period of time, on 720. Unless 720 comes out before PS4, but that's logic. :D

Most likely timed DLC stuff. I've always wondered though, are these types of deals really an incentive for people to choose a specific platform? It really seems like a miniscule advantage.

Where is that Bird? He know something about this & I think he was hinting at it in another thread last night.

I hope its better then their partnership with Nintendo.
Maybe this pushed Microsoft to have a partnership with EA, which left Nintendo in an embarrassing situation hence last E3 of Nintendo having filler material and EA having a WiiU logo in their presentation without any WiiU games displayed,
Things are really falling into place now.
Edit: plus lack of EA @ PS4 event makes sense now.

yup me too. microsoft's COD DLC windows probably make some difference just cause that game is so huge, but that's about it.

But they're all we have anymore.

This exclusive, and many times meaningless, DLC stuff is a terrible differentiator for consoles. I get why both are involved, but would hope consumers were savvy enough not to let these things affect their decision.

And I think they are. The exclusive GTA4 dlc deal Microsoft had never recouped the money spent on it, and the exclusive dlc for ac3 on PS3 didn't make that version the best selling version.

GAF will spin it's wheels over this needlessly.

MS signing a deal to get Battlefield 4 DLC a month before the PS4?

A TWENTY PAGE THREAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

....., seriously. Let common sense reign. For once.

This is saying very little, I am hoping there will not be too many significant exclusive deals, they just do not have any benefit for customers and feels like a waste of money in the industry.

But there probably will be.

If the "no used games" rumor is true, EA must have given them something worth the trouble... and I'm not sure even a 3-6 month timed exclusive on all EA games is worth the backlash.

Look at how LA Noire backfired on Sony too. All of this happened last generation. Both Microsoft and Sony need to stay away from this type of business practice.

Hmm, I'll get whichever console version looks better - exclusive DLC means shit to me and I';m sure many others. Keep up the good work MS, the... good... work.

I hope publishers have get-out clauses in their deals with MS. They can't possibly predict how the generation will play out, and if PS4 gets any noticable advantage in the market in terms of userbase, there will be a lot of pressure not to maintain exclusivity windows for DLC

This gen I think they were easier to sign up because MS had a year's lead, but some of the terms of Xbox publishing are not good for open competition

If we learnt anything from the Xbox 360, Microsoft are very capable in persuading third party 'exclusive' deals. I expect this generation to be no different.

Moneyhats everywhere.

All I care about is a BF4 reveal.

I think one of either the Respawn game is exclusive, or Battlefield 4, or Madden 14.

The userbases will be more than small enough for the first 6 months for the moneyhat to be worth it.

Do you think the persuasion takes any other form than "moneyhats" and/or marketing? I guess they could offer technical support... but I'd have thought that was on offer anyway.

If a game is good enough exclusive DLC hasn't ever been enough to sway me. I usually chose based on where my friends were playing (even performance issues - unless they were huge - didn't normally factor in).

Can't wait to see the details of this though. As already stated if it is at the end of April... that's a long wait.

Too late I suppose so. Everyone now know and will change, see at Destiny was suppose Xbox time exclusive. Poor MS, all of those leaks destroy their plan.

So lets make the interesting.

What if it was timed exclusive DLC across all EA titles?

Similar in nature to GTAIV, but for all titles.

I get why it is happening though. You aren't going to get both to enter an agreement to say "let's stop spending countless money on these things". So even if they know it doesn't make them money back if one was to stop doing these deals than the other would get every deal and look like the defacto console for most games.

Same thing happens at the retailer level, with their exclusive deals. Only thing people can do is not reward these efforts.
