I understand your point completely, just wanted also to support Croatia.
And I also think the Kevin franklin thing is just a hyperbole and nobody takes it completely serious to just blame him( at least I hope so)

Pretty sure you never played Halo 3 right now as EU player then? :p The lag and connection problems are horrible.
Lan is not a replacement for online multiplayer. And I dislike Halo Reach more than Halo 4 (except MLG Reach)
ODST has no vs multiplayer

And I do play other games but why should I change my tastes if a franchise which delivered good games for 10 years now starts to completely drifts away and changes itself?
I do take all my hope in the new Microsoft studios to create a new shooter IP with great competive play so I don't have to hold on Halo, but right now there is nothing else.

No one is saying to change your tastes, but games will change regardless. Also, non-US players have always gotten the shaft regarding Halo's matchmaking... That's not a new issue and I don't see it changing anytime soon, which is unfortunate.

Change sucks, but it happens. This isn't just an issue with video games at some point, it's about people's worldviews. No one says you have to live change, but making other people who are fine with it/have less issues with it miserable over personal preferences seems kind of entitled.

Maybe it is nostalgia but I do feel I had more fun on Halo 2, 3, even Reach during its early years in customs and later years in squad slayer (rip), team obj and oddball sword base.

Of course I can't offer any tangible evidence for fun other than time spent playing, and even that's skewed because I went from high school playing every night for hours to college where I only play like 5 hours a week. If that.

But, if someone were willing, they could look at the post history of HaloGAF. I arrived here at Reach OT3, February 2011 I believe. The thread was definitely a much nicer place despite being smack dab in Reach. I believe tunavi and steely were in my junior wave and we were greeted nicely, given a friendly junior quiz etc etc. probably helped we weren't terrible posters. But when I joined, we still did weekly Saturday night customs. If you were playing Halo and needed teammates all you had to do was say "need 2 for team objective" and you'd have them in 10 minutes. But soon Reach's issues grew on us. Some of the old hands quit playing as frequently, Ghaleon stopped playing pvp multiplayer all together. And customs died off.

I stopped by here from time to time during the Halo 3 OT, and I've looked through some of it and I've also heard stories from the older halogaffers here how they would ALWAYS play together and have fun. Tons of customs and matchmaking.

And then Halo 4 comes. A weekly custom game night wasn't even attempted and who could blame us since file browser didn't work and tons of customization was cut. I thought reach was bad since it caused a few of my friends to move on past Halo... But the design decisions of Halo 4 caused SO many of my friends to stop playing, not just from HaloGAF. No one here hates the game to seem cool, or because they want to hate it. They disagree with the direction it took and are trying to get it back on track.

Luckily, with static ordnance being in the Majestic maps and the new maps added into dubs and throwdown, an throwdown as a whole... Looks like they're learning from their mistakes. Or at least trying to appeal to people like us. Im not sure how much of it was Bravos doing, but it all happened after he got hired so ill blame him for fixing Halo 4 for me. I'm also not even sure if they see any of their decisions as mistakes...

Either way, I hope with the file browser back up some fun customs can be made and perhaps we can start playing some of them. Hopefully get big enough lobbies as well. And I hope some playlist consolidation happens that cuts down on the randomness/infinity settings, but I doubt that will happen.

Nostalgia is a powerful tool. Halo 3 was riddled with so many problems I don't see how people want it again.

Halo 3 came out 6 years ago, that's hardly nostalgia. Nostalgia would be wanting Halo 1 to make a comeback to play it. And yes, Halo 3 had some problems, but for me Halo 3 is my favorite Halo. The ranking system (which I never had a problem with. I was rank locked at 46 in team doubles for 2 years and still managed to get a 50) may have sucked, along with other issues, but that didn't matter to me. It's the one I had the most fun with, met cool people to play with every night/weekend, made the most memories, and I still play it to this day.

Wait you don't think you can be nostalgic for something that happened six years ago?

It's also that people want to go back to the games they were playing when they were growing up. I don't see the big deal because those games haven't disappeared and I can play them when I want.
Right. And there's still a healthy population for that game, new content, and developer support - oh wait, none of that is true. Population is abysmal, no new content, and no developer support and features such as online web fileshare support are no longer available.

This doesn't make any sense at all. Their isn't some exact time limit you have to hit before having nostalgia.

Sentimental longing for the past can fit pretty much any time period that isn't right now. Imagine a relationship where you were left broken-hearted 6 years ago but still remember all the good stuff fondly.

I know I haven't been playing it a lot (fucking LoL is the shit) but I actually really like Halo 4.
It's a much better game than Reach and I've been having a awesome time getting back into Halo this past week (even *gasp* btb). I think I was at 47 a week ago and now I'm at 62 and I'll most likely continue to play on a more consistent basis.

After Reach, competitive Halo 4 is some of the most fun I've had with the series in a long time.

I've said it before but I'll say it again. For Halo 5 I'd love for cosmetics to be the only unlockable thing in a format similar to this. To clarify, each armor set is a complete set (meaning helmet/shoulders/chest/forearms/legs).

CAREER MILESTONE 1 (unlocked the instant you open the game) - Spartan Armor (primary, secondary, emblem colors, stances)

CAREER MILESTONE 2 (skill rank 5) - Spartan Detail (unlocks Armor Detail, which are your suit's lights, that can be changed to be any color. Also unlocks Under Armor, which you can change from pitch-black to bright white with about 15 gray options in between)

CAREER MILESTONE 3 (skill rank 10) - Visor Color (works like an armor color, you don't have to unlock them)

CAREER MILESTONE 4 (skill rank 15) - Visor Gradients (has Linear, Radial, and Reflection as the gradient options. You choose a primary and secondary color for the gradient to achieve effects similar to the specialization visors in 4)

CAREER MILESTONE 5 (skill rank 20) - Weapon Skins (allows you to alter your primary and secondary loadout weapons. Rather than making individual ones, a universal skin can be applied to any and all of your loadout weapons. These include None, Full, UNSC, Covenant, Forerunner, and Flood. You can change it to any color just like an emblem)

CAREER MILESTONE 6 (skill rank 25) - Weapon Skins Bonus (unlocks more options including Insurrectionist, Heretic, Promethean, and Precursor)

Now for the armor sets themselves, they would be distributed into several categories. Each category has 25 armor sets apiece.

CAREER: Unlocked simply by leveling up or earning Achievements; mostly new armor or modified versions of armor seen in campaign.

COMMENDATIONS: Much easier to get this time. May be artifacts/continuations of relevant armor from past games; getting a grenade commendation would give you Jorge's armor, for example.

SPECIALIZATIONS: These work differently this time around. There are 5 ranks of specialization with varying difficulty; you can enlist as soon as you start the game. They don't give you any perks, just armor. They can be done in any order, though some take longer than others. Class-E specs take one level, Class-N take five, Class-H take ten, Class-L take fifteen, and Class-M take a whopping twenty levels to complete. Halo 4's specialization armors would return here, though likely modified a bit. The format for naming would be something like "Class-M, Spec-X [Rogue]." The Specializations use the alphabet rather than numbers. There is also an elusive Spec-Z hidden on the disc that's essentially the new Recon armor.

LEGACY: 25 sets of notable armor from past games. These would probably include all of Halo 3's, Noble Team, all of Chief's armor variations, ODST + Recon, and so on. I'm not sure how you would unlock these. Probably unlocking terminals, doing SLASO runs, finding skulls, etc.

Note that each set of Legacy armor would also unlock a Stance for use, with you being able to change the weapon used in the Stance to some degree as well.

UPLINK: Pre-order bonuses, DLC armor, and so on.

Armor Skins would likely not return due to the sheer level of armors/color combinations possible. That's a whopping total of 125 complete armor sets.

No big deal, but if baffles me that some folks could hate this OT SO much, yet keep it in their tabs with so many other Halo forums out there to post on.

uhh because it completely drifted away and changed itself. it's no longer for you (or a lot of us for that matter). the quicker you can accept this the easier it is to get outta the rut. halo's not in some unique situation with this, series go south all the time, that just means it's time to stop giving it attention.
Then nobody would give criticism and just jump the ship. There were many great writeups, a decline in population(if it is due to Halo 4's style of multiplayer is debatable and can't be proven though)
Also like I said I see hope for Halo, Halo 4 isn't bad because of the core gameplay, it is bad because of the management of playlists, settings and else stuff.
I do see hope and I play it occassionally.

I admit I am entitled that I wanted a definitve Halo game out of Halo 4, I never wanted people who enjoy it to feel otherwise and I'm happy for them. But I do think these people would also be happy with my vision ( but what do I know lol) .

I'm also not on the total Halo 4 hate force side, I just see problems which werte easily avoidable and easily to be fixed. But I also understand both sides.

Lol same situation with Halo 4 I suppose

Also, not sure if anyones keeping up with the Sim City fiasco but

http://www.amazon.com/SimCity-Limit...dp_top_cm_cr_acr_txt?ie=UTF8&showViewpoints=1

Its on track to become the worst rated product on Amazon of all time. Basically, people who bought the game can't play it because it has always online DRM. Meaning you need an internet connection to play, AND you have to rely on EA's wonky ass servers which are apparently down at the moment.

Get fucked EA. Glad Bungie signed with Activision.

At some point you're just plugging your ears and ignoring the world around you. Halo's probably not going to go back to what you thought was great about it, so it's time to move on. Don't be that guy who gets dumped and never lets go of it.

Damn.. You just made me realize I'm a Halo-stalking creep. Halo should get a restraining order on me.

Completely understandable, but posting the same thing over and over again doesn't do any good. If you hate the game, why post on a daily basis that you hate the game? What good does that do? Eventually we all come to understand who likes the game and who doesn't. The conversation that exists between those parties is great, commenting on what needs fixed, discussing balance, etc. However, just saying how bad the game is doesn't help anyone and just gets repetitive. We know "you" (in general) don't like the game, either dig into the specifics or just stop playing.

Look man, I know everyone's tired, I know we're all hurting, and I wish I could say something that was classy and inspirational.. but that just wouldn't be our style.

Pain heals. Chicks dig scars. Glory... lasts forever.

In terms of major games, the games industry is 1 for 3 in terms of always online DRM. Even then, Starcraft 2 tends to have issues every GSL or MLG event. Halo has been really pushing it with the content that has been locked behind Waypoint or by making the progression impossible for offline players.

Those maps they gave out here last week - that bought what, two days worth of good vibes? Conclusion: Should Halo 5 be free, HaloGAF becomes utopia for a month.

Wait you don't think you can be nostalgic for something that happened six years ago?

To be quite honest, 6 years isn't that long ago. Same console generation, controller, service, etc. I suppose technically one could be nostalgic for shit that happened yesterday, but personally I associate nostalgia with things that shaped early memories of a particular thing. I can listen to some of the music I did back in high school and like it for nostalgia's sake, but still realize it's not the greatest choice. Similarly, I could get nostalgic over LAN parties with people that are now states away, but still realize that it's no longer the practical thing to do (we are all busy with jobs, families, etc.), and that leaves the most practical choice to be the game that currently has the most online support, because those are the games most people are playing.

Still, I wouldn't consider the opinion some people have of Halo 3 versus 4 to be necessarily nostalgic, because it can be somewhat easily reinforced.

No big deal, but if baffles me that some folks could hate this OT SO much, yet keep it in their tabs with so many other Halo forums out there to post on.

I liked this one:

AmazonSimCityReviewer said:
Fundamentally, SimCity has always been a 'software toy'. That means that there's no real end state, no way to win. It's just a thing that you play and experiment with. You build, and tinker, and mess around. It's a toy, not a game; it's a sandbox, not baseball.

So, in this iteration of the game, you don't even get to buy your toy. Rather, you rent a toy from EA, who lets you play with it only in very limited, circumscribed ways, only on their servers. So you have to have a live Internet connection at all times, and their servers have to be up, and have to have space for you. And the rules for play are draconian. If you want to, say, build a city, save it, blow it up with something terrible, and then restore from save, you can't do that anymore. That's an unauthorized usage of their toy. And if you figure out ways of using their toy that they don't like, they'll ban you forever.

All third-party modding is shut out. One of the best parts of SimCity 4 and The Sims is that users can create and share content among themselves for free. You will no longer be able to do this. You will be required to run only Official Authorized Content.

Further, you're not getting the whole game for your $60 or $80, depending on what version you're buying. EA's plan is to sell you Simcity 5 over and over and over. They've directly admitted that they already have it running with larger cities, but they're not releasing that now. They claim it's because it "won't run on Dad's PC", but the real reason is so they can sell it to you again later. Want subways? That's gonna be $20. Want railroads? Another $20. Bigger cities? Oh, that's in the $30 expansion.

Right now, if you look at The Sims 3, the game costs $30. But if also you buy all the DLC for it, it's *four hundred and seventy dollars*. This is what they are doing with SimCity 5; locking you into their server infrastructure, and then exploiting the heck out of your wallet.

This is a lousy deal, and you would be stupid to take it. Always-on DRM, and a deliberately crippled game, so that they can slowly uncripple it, charging you for every restored feature from prior versions.

Simcity 4 still works pretty well. It's not quite as nice as most current games, and can require you to 'pin' the process to just one processor on a multi-core system (ie, most current machines), but if you want a city builder where you won't have to pay extra to breathe both in AND out, that would be a better option.

But buying this game? In my opinion, you would be wiser to take three twenties out of your wallet, and light them on fire.

Fire. People like fire. And golden showers.

Gears has good trailers.

Isn't that kind of the point?
I dunno where he was going, but my point is the number of games that can persist for years and years and years are A) very small, and B) on PC--there is and never will be a CS or Starcraft on consoles. Expecting developers to still be putting out maps and updates and support long after it is no longer financially viable to do so strikes me as foolish; that isn't to say it wouldn't be nice and a good gesture to players to offer better support on old titles (Halo has been bad on this score), but its simply not done on a wide scale anyhow.

What if Halo's multiplayer got divided into three parts in the future: Arena, War Zone, and Action Sack? (names subject to change)

Arena focuses on tighter-knit skirmishes with Quake-meets-CE-style gameplay. The largest possible maps available would be 8v8 but be closer to Halo 4 levels of big team maps rather than larger, more open Halo 3-style ones. All Arena games are ranked. Gametypes include:

Slayer
-Slayer Pro

CTF
-One Flag

Assault
-One Bomb

Territories
-Three Plots

King of the Hill
-Crazy King

Imperialist (Juggernaut meets Regicide, essentially)
-VIP

War Zone focuses on larger-scale, Battlefield-style combat. Ranges from 8v8 to 16v16 party sizes on gigantic maps due to the generational leap. These matches are social. Gametypes include:

Slayer
Extraction
Invasion
Dominion (revised heavily)
Safe Havens (essentially up to 16v16 Infection meets Firefight meets Dominion, with the exception that all "enemies" are playable. No AI-controlled Flood)

Action Sack has likewise social gametypes with anywhere between 1v1-16v16 players. Players are given access to Megalo with a comprehensive gametype editor. Action Sack, uniquely, would allow players to find matches using something resembling a Custom Game Browser. Some pre-baked gametypes could include:
Skee-Ball
Chess
Grifball
Infection/Flood
Race

The game uses servers to simulate the cities while you're not playing.. it's about "always online DRM" as World of Warcraft.

It's the infrastructure that's lacking, here.

Brood War was given updates years after the fact to play natively on OS X and as a universal binary a decade after its release. That's some pretty impressive compatibility.
