Drag-on Dragoon 3 (Drakengard 3) Official Site open + Pics

Dear GOD, didn't we learn anything after NIER?

Nier looks like Uncharted 3 compared to what this looks like..

Again, this isn't a deal breaker, but you must admit from what we've seen this is perhaps the worst looking PS3 exclusive the system has ever seen.

Meh, story and music are my main concerns.

Nier wasn't much of a looker either but the designs and world were so memorablet so in terms of the look I'm more interested in those aspects than how close it looks to Uncharted.

Why are some people saying Vita? This looks like it has the assets of a PS1/PSP game in some shots. I kind of like the effect though, the hard edges and pixelly textures, it almost seems like a stylistic choice.

Reminds me of Soukaigi on PS1.

It's not a stylistic choice, it's the result of Famitsu doing satanical things to the screenshots.

As mentioned on the last page, even the art (and the Famitsu logo) is pixelated. That's not the way it's supposed to look.

Well the character models look a lot better in Nier, some of the textures are comparable though.

Yet I did indeed never expect a game to look worse than Nier.

Perhaps these are early screens from a transition from it formerly being for PS2 or something, and there is some kind of possibility it looks better. :P

Either way, for plot craziness, dat soundtrack and potential Nier feels, day 1.

Edit: ^^ I do see that now, as well, Famitsu does some weird shit to everything.. will wait for an HD trailer or something.

There are screenshots on the SE's website that are looking a lot cleaner (but are also a lot smaller). It definitely looks like a game that started development on the PSP but got moved to the PS3 (otherwise I can't explain why some of the textures are so blurry), but it's not quite as bad as the pictures on Famitsu's page make it look.

Kinda reminds me of EX Troopers, with the difference that this time around the handheld version got cancelled completely.

On top of the weird compression going on, I expected it to look like butt so I'm not too bothered. Doesn't taint my excitement for this game, as a fan of the series who played Drakengard 1 & 2 + Nier, I never really expected to see anything substantial from either ever again. It will be kind of weird to see it bombing once again right after being brought back from the dead though, I hope SE is keeping their expectations in check...

Looks closer to Nier in those.

Man, the meltdowns if this were a PSP or Vita exclusive.

Wait, same key staff and the NieR composer? Am I gonna have to get a fucking Vita or PS3 some day now?

im guessing this is using the same engine for the old games lol

Square Enix really goes nuts sometimes. Looks a bit low-budget, but who is surprised by that? Hope this turns out a great game, because it's a great move nevertheless -- and that it signals a new era of better IP handling, more range and high-class quality. Come on Square Enix, you can do this!

Drakengard 2 actually looked great in motion, and had some really wicked particle effects.

Look up the caim boss fight and watch when they fight over the flower field in the middle of the room. It kicks up petals in a really cool way. It's also 60 fps iirc.

Really, this is what makes the graphics not matter (although I'm obviously not opposed to this being polished before release).

It's true, though I think anyone who cares about the team will get it regardless, and people who are against it graphically and don't care about Drakengard or Nier won't bother either way. :P

I don't really care how it looks, especially since the art is very pretty and that's what matters.
Both Zero and One look very interesting, I'm definitely checking out the manga soon.

Besides it could be still early in development.

Yeah, the attacks and magic in the game all had cool effects because of that, Caim's fireballs in particular in the case of that fight.

People who say it looks like a Vita title... I've played Vita games that look infinitely better than what those screenshots suggest! Holy hell has this game been beaten with an ugly stick. How on earth did the developers of Deadly Premonition somehow make a current-gen game even uglier than that Twin Peaks knock-off.

Sorta looks like a PSOne game. Maybe that's their intention. They're trying to make it look like a 1990s 32-Bit 3D game the way Sword and Sworcery looks sorta like an NES game with a larger pixel count, but still blocky.

I cannot imagine why they'd do this on PS3 if SE weren't at least considering an international release.

If they were going JP-only, they'd be better off building for PSP with the option of quick and dirty up-port to Vita.

Main thing I guess is exactly how long has this project been in development? I'd hazard not very long simply based on the fact that Yoko Taro has only been back at SE for a year or so and has been working (apparently) on other stuff in the meanwhile.

Given that the website is advertising a 2013 release it seems like its being knocked together very quickly, so that should hopefully mean what we're seeing now isn't entirely representative of the final product.

Graphics being shitty is definitely a tertiary complaint, I just hope it plays well, has the multiple playable characters with strengths/weaknesses weapon selection etc that Drakengard 2 had, Nier was a huge disappointment in that regard

Well then. Maybe I'll get a PS4 then. I'll probably buy this regardless, ain't like they're going to print many copies.

Last I heard PS4 can't play PS3 games. Correct me if incorrect.

As for this game I'll probably buy it, kinda like how it looks like the same engine as Drakengard 1 for whatever reason.

Ummm... nice logo?

Jesus. I never thought I'd see games looking this bad anymore... and certainly not on the PS3. Id still be shocked if this was PSone!!

Lot of stupidity in this thread. PS1 game? lol.
Huge areas where you can fly + lots of enemies + Drakengard/Nier staff = obvious ugliness.

I don't have a PS3 so dragonlife will have to keep telling me what's happening on his screen.
