Lucy Bradshaw - You don't want to play SimCity offline!

Well, you're half right Lucy. I don't want to play SimCity at all. Why? Because the last thing I want is for the company you work for to earn money on this debacle.

So, could we have built a subset offline mode? Yes. But we rejected that idea because it didn’t fit with our vision. Instead, we chose something different. We chose the impossible. We chose... Rapture!

This is what was actually said.

I don't think anyone actually loves always online, they are more force against their own will to put up with it and make the best out of the situation.

I like being able to play it online and have my friends cities appear around mine and see the headlines about their arsonist coming to my city and stuff like that and I'd probably, given the option, choose to play that way.

But I still would VASTLY prefer to have the option to play offline if I want.

and make it 2 different cities/options.

Want to play City1? Please connect to the internet.

Want to play city2? loading....

^ why the fucking hell they couldn't/didn't do this?

You can pop from work to home, play the game and have your cities available to you anywhere.
This seems like it would only really be a huge advantage if you went to a different job each morning and back to a different home each night.

Is that how they think people live or something?

Simcity is what happens when a giant corporation creates a game to make money. If the game also happens to be fun and entertaining then that's a nice side effect but the only reason for its existence is to make money for the company.

"Thousands of people" is the best defense they can come up with, ladies and gentlemen.

What a joke.

I really regret buying the game. I knew about the always online and the sharing between regions but I didn't realize how extensive you have to rely on other regions. I had heard you can play it by yourself and that's all I really cared about so I didn't research it any further. That's all on me though. I'll be more careful next time.

Do what I do. Don't support anything at launch, or even pre-launch, unless you know it's a trusted source for your money. Very few companies have my trust; From Software, CD Projekt, Bohemia Interactive, and Platinum Games are the only few I know I can dish out money day uno on a product and be happy with it.

I cannot express clearly enough how Maxis & EA are doing everything in their power to stop me buying their game despite my love of the genre.

The spokespeople for the team are just doing everything possible to alienate the company.

Pie and Beans

Look for me on the local news, I'll be the guy arrested for trying to burn down a Nintendo exec's house.
Keep this up Lucy and if you're around for the next Sim City, don't be surprised when your once dependable market base has decided they dont want to play Sim City at all.

Fucking hell. Even stopping yourself after typing out "You don't want this", presumably spellchecking the article and then still going ahead with it. Mind boggling. Keep digging!

Almost all of our players play with connected cities. But some chose to play alone
I chose to play alone because the join game menu is still completely broken, you have to do workarounds to even join a connected city. Every time I go to it I see the same list of completely full games, and no matter how far I scroll down they are all the same map. They patched out any way to filter the list.

So the problem is you advertised SimCity when in fact you tried to build SimWorld.

Why not build SimCity with a SimWorld expansion/subscription/something extra.

But Lucy...

... I do want to play SimCity offline! Away from your anti-consumerism agendas with all the DRM and server errors you seem to adore. Though I won't as I regardless of future actions on your part find it demeaning to provide you with funding for this project; I can only put up with so much nonsense. Maybe I'll purchase some other city building game you decide to produce, but only if it features content that can be accessed efficiently and in a just manner by the end user from day one.

Also for your information, I think I can form my own opinion, thank you very much.

You are truly right, I don't want to play it online or singleplayer, had enough of "simtown" and not even being able to fucking get into my two cities.

Wow, this keeps getting worse. I feel like gamers are seriously going to have to mobilize for their rights to game as they see fit. DRM, always connected, not directly owning our games,...I understand the need to protect profits, but don't do it at our expense.

I'm just really curious who these people are that LOVE the "always connected experience." It would make a great tagline for the game though. "Sim City. You're always connected, except when you're not.

Too bad everyone hates your vision, Lucy! Sorry! Let people play it how they want to. It'd be a fine game otherwise.

"We built an MMO" - laughable. No you didn't.

Videogames industry, where companies know what you really want better than yourself.

Seriously, save us the charade.

Might want to dial back the wannabe reality distortion field there. Remember, rapport comes before reframe in the dictionary :p

It seems like they wanted to call this "SimCity" because they didn't want it to feel like a cheap offshoot. But it didn't have to feel cheap, WoW was an offshoot from Warcraft III but it wasn't cheap. Calling it something different would have done a lot to soothe the awful PR they're getting from people who feel like they were misled and not getting what they want from a new SimCity.

The longer this saga goes on, the smarter I feel for not buying the game. Also, I would think that EA has leagues of PR people whose sole purpose is to manage messaging. How does stuff like this keep happening?

I cancelled my Amazon preorder about an hour before hey have out keys. I dodged a serious bullet. This shit is really ridiculous.

Eh, I'm personally all for outright messaging "management" because it'd show to the casual masses that SOMETHING is going on with this game. I'm talking about those masses that don't have GAF or subscribe to better rags than Polygon.

EDIT: I mean, just look at this.

http://www.foxnews.com/tech/2013/03/13/simcity-pr-nightmare-escalates/

THIS will definitely reach out all of them and know what's up. Not saying Fox News is the best news outlet but it does cover that kind of whole other audience too.

I think every corporation makes a game to make money.

God's had his chance.
I hope those thousands of people each paid 400 bucks for the game otherwise Lucy and all the rest of her Maxis-EA cronnies are getting shitcanned.

What a cluster. Map size alone is enough to make me call a complete foul on the entire experience. SimCity's endgame is always the perfect balancing act required of a player to manage a millions strong population city without is rocking off the cliff of crime and fires and godzillas and shit. I can't imagine ever getting my money's worth out of building what would constitute a fucking hotel + gas station in Simcity4 and calling it my "city".

What a joke. Feels like whoever designed this failure is a hopelessly out of touch older game designer who went into their first design meeting and said "So ... facebook right? Kids love the facebook and the myspaces and stuff? so lets make SimCity like a big facebookspaces thing! These idiots will Eat. It. Up!"

Then they all did basaebal bat sized rails off their crushed ivory meeting table started blowing each other.

I, once stated that I had more entertainment from SimCity than somebody who bought it. But I never expected to reach this point.

I wonder what game they'll be giving at 18th of March. What can cover all these? Maybe they'll give a season pass for SimCity as the apology freebie.

Also an MMO? It is a facebook game at best with the existing online features, now Zynga can sue them saying that they stole the idea from Farmville.
