This guy is so full of himself. Crytek says what's next-gen.. actually warning Sony and Microsoft not to push too far beyond what Crytek says is next-gen, or they'll be sorry!!!

Crytek really needs a new CEO, this guy is just too far gone. I don't care how pretty your game is, you're so far out of touch with reality that Crytek's future isn't going to be a concern in a few more years if you keep this up.

Remind me again how many games license CE3? How many license UE4?

I kind of get what he's saying, but you have to swim through the sea of arrogance to get to it.

Yeah, no. Crytek is doing incredibly well for themselves. The video game industry is only part of what the company is about.

Friendly of him to let us know his engine scales very badly, and what exactly the maximum use of their engine is.

The guy's the original CEO and it SOUNDS like much of the development staff for games like Crysis 1 & 2 and probably Far Cry is long gone. Crytek would effectively be a very different company.

And I'm not sure he's WRONG, but part of why generation shifts happen as they do is because neat new technology is now as affordable roughly as the prior generation was when it launched. Though I do worry both Microsoft and Sony bit off more than they could chew this generation, if they went lower we probably could've had a modest update two years ago or whatever rather than waiting until now.

Wow ....

Usually it's advisable not to comment on news stories you post (At least that's what people say, I have no idea myself), but your comments .... agree 100%.

Crytek, focus on making games that do not feel like interactive benchmarks. Make them fun please. I know this is subjective, but god damn Crysis 3 was a bore. So tired of hearing from Crytek.

Does Moore's Law have any relevancy here?

Cause it sounds like he's saying if any of the big 3 were to launch a next next gen console this year it would be too much. Isn't that fucking obvious?

EDIT: I just understood his statement.

""We have been saying CryEngine 3 is next-gen ready for years now"

I have no doubt in my mind that we will not only get games that are better looking than Crysis 3, but far more funner.

He's right—but he stated the stupidest possible way to say it. Amazing how he is so arrogant that not mentioning himself during an answer didn't occur to him.

Can't they shut up and go and make their FP2 ( sorry, P2W) games and fail while doing so?

Worse than Nvidia.

Didnt Crytek just recently get into the console market with crysis 2? They arent even at that "level" to be a voice in the market or offer opinions like that.

Well, it's his vision. I don't share it with him. I think the problem is that projects are simply too large, because developers insist on making them. I mean, look at Assassin's Creed III. It's made by hundreds of people. This is in contrast with, say, New Super Mario Bros. U which probably didn't need as a large team as Assassin's Creed III's. Both games sold over a million copies, but I really do wonder which one generated more profit. Maybe it's a bit of a bad comparison, but I hope you get the idea.

I like the Yerli brothers, though.

More importantly I think their priorities in console development are fucked. Does pushing your effects and whatnot matter if you have to fuck up the FPS in an action game, and your IQ on a whole? I actually think games like Metal Gear Rising and even Atelier Ayesha look nicer on consoles, MGR goes for full 720p at 60 FPS (most of the time), and Atelier Ayesha seems to be full 720p with pretty good IQ, even if a lot of the scenary looks just above PS2 level at best. The FPS is all over the place, but since it's an action game and sticks out a few set variables far as I can tell (60/30/15, and it should be in the same engine as Demon Souls and Dark Souls so that could explain it.)

Actually, I guess I'd be fine if IQ was sacrificed for a stable FPS and higher effects, or if you had a bad-yet-reasonable FPS at a high IQ and decent visuals, but when you just go for shit IQ and shit FPS... damn, it just seems like something to put on the "if I ever got an amazing PC" list while you play something else.

And I thought I was right when I posted "This guy talks too much" in a Crytek thread last week.

This dude just can't keep his mouth shut, and every statement he makes is somehow more ridiculous than the last.

Starting with Crysis 2 PS3 this company has done nothing to endear itself to me in any way.

PC Crysis 3 screenshot thread was getting my attention again, but I mean what is this statement now ?

Well, I sure hope Yerli allowed MS/Sony to make 720/PS4 powerful enough so Crytek games don't run like ass on consoles anymore.

Wait. He also said no game will surpass Crysis 3's visuals next gen for at least 2 years.

If he says Sony and MS isn't allowed to surpass it, then his statement becomes true. Crafty bastard.

Ugh Crytek really starting to bug me with their recent next gen comments. Let your games do the talking, not your mouth.

I used to hate them because of their burying of Timesplitters due to the lack of fan support so they can make..... Homefront 2!

A company that hasn't ever made a fun game should shut the fuck up. You make engines, that is all you do. Your games are terrible.

I'd rather play CS 1.6 than Crysis. Was always one big tech demo to me and I played Crysis 1 on launch day. Between this and Nvida, these here oceans are pretty darn saline.

If you read this Maldo, thanks for the texture packs for C2!

I think he is using the phrase "what we say is next gen" to the describe the fact that the PS4/Durango are referred to as next gen by people in general. There is an argument to be made that current PC hardware is at least similarly capable yet we refer to the new consoles as "next gen". The "we" he is referring to is not Crytek but the games industry/community as a whole. At least it seems that way to me.

The only thing I see in his statements that could be seen as arrogant (incorrectly so in my opinion) is the fact that he is proud that his company accurately predicted the requirements needed for an engine to run on next gen hardware three years in advance. He is not stating that Crytek somehow dictate what it means to be next gen, rather that they did a good job of seeing where the console makers were heading with it in terms of hardware.

I imagine he is not a native English speaker and while his usage of that phrase apparently leaves him open to misunderstanding I don't think he means it in anywhere near as arrogant a fashion as people are taking it.

Pretty bad title, tbqh. All he said was basically "this is what we say next gen is, and it would be prohibitively expensive to go beyond that."

He's not saying "WE are next gen and EVERYONE should copy US."

I showed my nephews Crysis and they sat down, booted it up, but within just a few seconds play, they were already shutting it down again and I was like ‘what!?’. That’s what I means when I say you need to understand your users. Console gamers have the same attitude towards PC games – they’re too slow, too boring, right? But a PC gamer is much more forgiving. With console gamers, a few extra seconds on the loading screen can determine in their minds whether your game is a success or a failure.

One of his best.
