John Riccitiello steps down as CEO of Electronic Arts. [Resignation/Farewell Letters]

One thing to consider is in the transition to next gen if there weren't multiple deals being made that fell through. That would be enough to let him go.

Really? What has Origin's presence done for gamers? All it has done is pull EA games off of Steam as Steam continues to do what it was doing before Origin and Uplay and anything else existed. Which is constantly add progressive features that generally improve the quality of the service and people's happiness with it.

What did Origin do? Add the ability to not play SimCity with their servers? Hold some games' collector's editions on Origin only for $80+?

Nailed it. Competition is always good but it has to be the right kind of competition. Origin has contributed little to the DD space besides pulling EA games off Steam.

Yeah, I don't think he "stepped down" willingly.

Man how do you get fired from CEO? They must have had a board meeting and they all vetoed him. Seems like even the top level people at EA have had enough.

Now I await the top brass at Capcom getting fired.

Maybe we might get Dead Space 4 with no co-op, no microtransactions and no universal ammunition, and we might get save stations back!

Interesting, me and a friend were talking two nights ago about all the grandstanding EA is letting peter moore have lately in the press and maybe its signaling something is coming.

I'm not so sure of a peter moore EA... But, im not so sure of EA in general.

Oh thank fucking god.

Get a CEO who doesn't have his head so far up his anti-consumer ass.

Kotick isn't the most popular guy but i don't think i would ever go so far as to call him anti-consumer. Greedy as fuck, yeah.

Strange. If Moore was to take over, surely they would have announced it at the same time? He is internal after all. Maybe they are really looking for an outsider.
Doing a search even if you have a frontrunner is not uncommon.

For those that believe in karma remember this:
He made so much money off of selling BioWare to himself that he's going to be swimming in money no matter what happens.

After his pay2reload comments....not disappointed he is gone.

Hopefully EA changes direction, but I can't see it happening.

I see Peter Moore being worse. It feels like he's been more vocal about exploiting every monetization opportunity.

EA Sports has also been ruthless about cutting off platforms - 3DS got one (underbaked) Madden, Wii U may/may not be only getting one Madden (I suppose they could still be developing a version alongside an unannounced PS4/XboxNext version, but why torpedo the Wii U version in that case).

I like reading Peter Moore interviews, and he seems to grok gamers more than most executives, but dude is still all about the bottom line.

We need a long list of his many "accomplishments" now.

-Bought and crushed Pandemic and participated in Bioware's downfall
-Started project 10 dollar and other anti-consumer tactics
-SimCity fiasco
-The old republic bombing, perhaps the most expensive bust ever
-Pulled out of Steam and started a competing service that no one wanted and is worse in every way

People can add to it. There are literally too many to list for just me.

Paid $750 million for popcap games.

Unfortunately for him, the nearest unoccupied home was in a low-wealth district. And there was a line of 600 fire trucks blocking the way.
