Maybe that was their intention or maybe it wasn't. But there are people in this thread that have posted that they have hearing problems and a feature like this will help them with playing it. Isn't that a good thing? It's optional so you won't be bothered by it as long as you don't hit R2 while you aren't moving or stalking.

What? That wasn't the issue. It was brought up that listening mode should be different, and then I brought up that listening mode should be a mode where hearing is greatly amplified. Someone brought up the point that without surround sound it would be challenging to pinpoint sound.

Then my counter argument was the player would have to guess where enemies were and how it would a be risky way of traversing unknown areas. When you say hearing problems I imagine you meant people that are hard of hearing, while this mode could potentially help those people, Naughty Dog didn't create this mechanic for people with poor hearing.

If they wouldn't put this in, they would have to make the game easier. So of course it's a great addition, because people who want a real challenge can just put it off.
Without it you probably wouldn't even have the option to get such a high difficulty.

Really? Why does it have to be between those 2 options? Cant just take it out? Why not just have it tied to Easy mode and have the higher difficulty levels force you not to use it.

That might not have been there end goal with it, but it's still a benefit of having that feature in a game where sound is extremely important to the gameplay. I was upset when it was confirmed back during the press demo, but since it's optional I don't really care that it's there. And it seems simply enough that ND could just include a Runner Vision-style option where you can disable it for the gamers that will be too tempted to hit that button while playing. So, problem solved (if they do it).

Who says it isn't like this?
You have the option to enable/disable it in lower difficulties, but how do you know that you can use it in the highest difficulty?
There're plenty of games which disable some features on higher difficulties (f.e. disable the minimap or some other HUD-infos), maybe this is also the case here.

But even if not, I don't see the problem do disable it by yourself. Only because you think it's "unfair" that other people can complete the game easier?

Some useless bickering going on in this thread.

The issues are:

1) shooting mechanism has been changed slightly, POV is less close
2)That fucking see through walls bullshit (give us an option ND)
3) Melee is context sensitive but this makes it seemed forced (melee near a wall and joel will suddenly push the enemy to the wall and do the respective animation)

Most of these can be fixed. The only one i am disappointed in is the xray vision. Totally kills the mood and suspense of a survival horror and will make it easy.

Stuff I loved:

1) One shot kill clickers
2) Exploration
3) The amount of times people died :)

Nope, in fact I rarely do. I just don't like the practice, that's all.

Bummer.

Not buying a new release product due to a network pass which has no impact on your experience or the price you pay for the product does seem to be cutting your nose of to spite your face.

I can't hear as well on my left ear and I don't want things like this in my games, and it's not as it was included for people like me, either. And the complaints are more than just the inclusion of wallhacking itself, it's also how poorly it's integrated into the game. You keep repeating that it's optional, but we don't know if the game was designed around this crutch. Maybe it's in the game because the sound design in the game is not clear enough for you to detect enemies on your own. There is no leaning, you can't really see around corners, either. I don't like wallhacking and I'm not out to make a game artificially harder than it is. So basically I'm screwed. Some of us, I guess, had different expectations based on what was shown last year. We were shown that the game goes to the point where you can't pause it while crafting or looking through your inventory. We even saw Joel pick up ammo by picking the actual weapon, getting the ammo out, and then discarding the weapon.

And now, wallhacking. Yeah. People are going to complain, sorry.

For the love of christ have you not read a single post in this thread?

It's fucking optional.

Yeah that's ND's fault I have to admit. But personally I always knew this game wouldn't be the Dark Souls some people painted it to be. It's bound to cost zillions and every penny needs to come back to Sony and ND.

But it's there.

My expectations for this game almost dropped to zero. Now I don't know if it's a prolonged stay at GAF or something, but fucking hell, I'm completely turned off to the game now.

Have to admit, my hype for this has deflated a little. That's might be a good thing as my expectations were probably too high to begin with.

Isn't that still the case?

You can see Tess and Ellie walking around while Joel is crafting.

I know what part you're talking about there, but here's the extended demo from last year and ammo pick ups worked exactly in the same way as we see in this demo

I just cannot believe what I'm reading in this thread. The game looks just as good as it ever did. The gameplay is just as good as it ever was. But for some very odd reason, people are now 'claiming' their hype has gone down because of muddy, offscreen videos and an option that can be ignored. Unbelievable ... 'actually' unbelievable.

And I actually like the radar. So I'll be using it and not turning it off.

Get out, take a breather, relax.

I'm fully trusting ND to putting that in for casual fans. They should be giving us a hardcore mode for the game too.

I didn't mean those things weren't there anymore, I'm talking about the disconnect behind showing something as realistic as that last year and now x-ray vision.

Oh, well I just hope that they have an option to disable it completely. Like I said, it seems simple enough for them to implement. I'm guessing that it'll be like that in the games version of Crushing. And hopefully that'll also disable any HUD elements.

It's good that people's expectations drop a little. They were too high for this game anyway. Whenever expectations are that high, disappointment is an inevitability. Hopefully if the hype for this game stays in check, people will be even more impressed with it when it finally releases.

I'm already predicting some journo's/GAF'ers dislike it due to the one hit death from the clickers alone. Having said that, I'm also still predicting the game will be a phenomenal achievement, and probably score quite highly among most popular outlets.

Soooo ... remove the radar and get IGN to give us some direct feed videos of that area and people will fall in love with the game again? It's that simple?

'I now HATE it!'

Radar gone. Direct feed video

'Wow, can't wait to play this'

Yeah ... right.

X-Ray vision aside (which is optional to be fair):

- close quarter combat looks frustratingly manic
- one hit kills in a game that appears to be fast paced, bad idea
- zombies don't seem to react to the flashlight?
- shooting mechanic in general, looks as sloppy as the Uncharted series

Yea, I think this thread sorely indicated that.

They're blind.

This is a good thing. The game is not meant to played at a faced pace. This is a survival horror game and this is by far one of the best ways for devs to say to the player, stop running around guns blazing.

- zombies don't seem to react to the flashlight?

They are blind. The "see" using sound hence the clicks.

- shooting mechanic in general, looks as sloppy as the Uncharted series

The phase 3 infecteds aka clickers are blind bro
I don't think optional is the correct word for listen mode.. Since I don't think you can choose to have that mode totally taken out from the game
It's just that you can choose to ignore/not use that mode at all, but obviously it's still in the game
And I'm pretty sure once you've stood up the wallhack effect disappears

I just thought of an easy way to do it. Joel moves his head in the general direction where sound is coming from when you press the current wallhack button.

That is such a simple but awesome idea and why devs should get feedback off fans as they develop their game.

May 31st. That's for the GoW demo. There's supposed to be a public demo as well.

Does that imply the public demo would have to be released at least 1 week after the private one? I haven't been following things too closely, but is that the norm?

That's what people are expecting. I think that they'd want it out for everyone before the game is available. And it releases on June 14th.

Xray has to be optional and i won't use it. and graphics are fine for ps3 but people forget how gaphics really looked and are allready spoiled by PS4.

I honestly don't see games like Watchdogs as having that much of a leap over current gen. TLOU is one of the PS3 games that can definitely hold its own against some of the early launch titles we're about to see.
