Media Create Sales: Week 11, 2013 (Mar 11 - Mar 17)

I was having a discussion off site with someone and came up with a question I was curious about. This doesn't solely have to do with Japan, but since we're talking about third party support and Saints Row, it feels appropriate.

For both Wii U and Vita (preferably listed separately), which third party publishers have a game announced that meets the following three requirements.

1.) Is a retail title (as in not PSN/eShop only).
2.) Is not a port of a game already released on another system (even if that port is upgraded). It can be a simultaneous release on multiple platforms, but it can't have already released on another platform before it came to the Wii U/Vita.
3.) The title is not published by Nintendo/Sony, so something like Super Smash Bros by Namco, FE x SMT by Atlus, Bayonetta 2 by Platinum, Soul Sacrifice by Marvelous, or Plants vs. Zombies by Sony Online Entertainment wouldn't count. I want to exclude these because generally the console vendor is footing the whole bill and it becomes much closer to a first/second party title than a third party title.

Atlus has Dragon's Crown for the PS3/Vita. Mind Zero from GungHo is coming to Vita. God Eater Burst 2 from Namco as well as Toukiden (SP?) from Omega are also coming to Vita. That Jump J game is also coming to Vita, but can't remember the publisher. That might be it for the Vita at the moment that fits your criteria.

Killzone for Vita and PS4 is not high risk its just stubborn.
MS has done a better job of creating new IPs in the last generation.

i am sorry but you have to be ignorant to say Sony has not created new ips. they are the ones constantly coming up with new ips. whether they were all commercially successful or not is a different story. just this gen alone, you have uncharted, resistance, infamous, demon souls, LBP, mag, heavy rain, heavenly sword, nier, starhawk, last of us, beyond, puppeteer, modnation, etc..... they have many more if you count their psn titles that they funded like journey, flow, flower, rain, unfinished swan, tokyo jungle.

Its just that i think if the WIP games are too far from production, it might be a better to not place a big emphasize on them. Nintendo did well with showcasing those 3DS 3rd party support well. They rattled off the list to illustrate the point that it has strong 3rd party support. They were careful not to leave a strong impression on any titles and keep the expectation moderate.

On the other hand, Sony emphasize more on the games individually to illustrate the point that these games are coming, when some of them haven't even got greenlight yet.

Additionally, the showcasing of the game demo with yakuza and stuffs were unnecessary, and will have been better shown behind closed doors to developers, since they only serves to illustrate how easy it is to port over from ps3. Showing them on stage achieves nothing but confusion and false hope to the consumers (which will lead to disappointment later on), and to also serve as stage time fillers. Just a simple "metal gear solid 4 vita" google and you will understand why i say that (unless sony is actually intending to misled the consumers in the first place).
If there is a bigger risk of the games being canceled, i agree. Speaking about putting emphasise on some of these games made me wonder, how much emphasis were actually put on some of these titles? Bioshock Vita for example, how much did we officially hear from this game from Sony outside of the ~30 second talk from Ken Levine at E3 2011?

About the tech demos, personally i enjoy those things, and i think it is interesting to know some of the technical aspect of the tech. So they are no unnecessary for my interest :) But i see your point. And yeah, i can see that uninformed consumers might be confused with those tech demos, thinking that they are actually games coming for the system. Pity for them if they dont come across the info that those things are only tech demos and not actual games being made for the system (unless anything specific is mentioned of course).

Yeah, Bioshock Vita would most likey have been a spinoff as well i think.

Mass effect 3?

Off the top of my head:

Assassin's Creed IV, Watch Dogs, Injustice Gods Among Us for WiiU

God Eater 2, Valhala Knights 3, Toukiden, Dragon's Crown for Vita

Would these qualify?
Atlus has Dragon's Crown for the PS3/Vita. Mind Zero from GungHo is coming to Vita. God Eater Burst 2 from Namco as well as Toukiden (SP?) from Omega are also coming to Vita. That Jump J game is also coming to Vita, but can't remember the publisher. That might be it for the Vita at the moment that fits your criteria.
The upcoming Lego games from WB for both platforms. Rayman legends, Assassin's creed 4 and watch_dogs from Ubisoft for Wii u. I feel that's a bit disingenuous for the Wii u though, its biggest releases are always going to be Nintendo published

Yes, since they're all simultaneous or unique releases.

So that gives us (at least from what's listed so far):

Wii U:
-Warner
-Ubisoft

Vita:
-Namco Bandai
-Marvelous AQL
-Tecmo Koei
-GungHo
-Atlus (Actually, is this one published by Sony in Japan? If so I'll drop it.)

Mass effect 3?

That's actually released already and was a late port to the system. Had it been simultaneous and upcoming in the future however, it would have counted.

---

As for campfire's note, I feel it's not disingenuous because I'm not requiring exclusives, and simply having a single simultaneous multiplatform retail game is enough to get the entire publisher on the list.

Oh ok i must have missed the part that they had to be released at the same time.

2 Neptunias (third is port)

edit: also next Lego game (the one with superheroes).

For Vita I think it looks something like this:

Atlus - Dragon's Crown
WB - LEGO Legends of Chima: Laval's Journey, LEGO Marvel Super Heroes
Milestone - MotoGP13
Marvelous AQL - Valhalla Knights 3
Namco Bandai - God Eater 2, Gundam Breaker, Project Versus J
Tecmo Koei - Toukiden
Falcom - The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Flash
5pb - Haiyore! Nyaruko-san
Spike Chunsoft - Conception II
Compile Heart - Hyperdimension Neptunia PP, Chou Megami Shinkou Noire Gekishin Black Heart
Acquire - Mind 0

Vanillaware is the dev and Atlus is the publisher for Dragons Crown. Also Warner has games coming for vita. Ubisoft will but are currently unannounced.

Ah I see. I didn't know if they had picked it up worldwide.

Are we missing anything for Wii U btw? EatChildren and I were somewhat puzzled at only coming up with two publishers when we tried this earlier, but it feels like there should be more.

Two copies sold? That's not a bomb guys, stop trolling!!!
Activision will release Fast and Furious and Skylanders on Wii U.

Nirolak

Mrgrgr
Disney Interactive is another one for Wii U.

You can also add Activision and Disney with both infinity, skylanders and assuredly the next cod.

Yup there's another for Wii U. That Disney infinity thing. Also did the new skylanders game get announced for Wii U? That would add Activision.

Well new Sonic game is coming to Wii U and Vita but technically that's unannouced since we don't know anything about it.

Disney and Activision are good calls.

I'll leave Sega off for now for the same reason they're off the Vita list.

What about Tearaway? But can you elaborate more on this? I'm pretty sure that Sony has made a lot more new IPs this generation than what what Microsoft has done.

100k! Obviously, kinda ignoring the Vita context here hehe.

Amazing first day for Luigi. It'll probably open with 380k+!!
Fair enough, i was just wondering :)

Sony didnt moneyhat bioshock vita. Sony discovered that kevin levine has fantasized a bioshock vita, so they got him to announce it when nothing was done at all. Kevin levine just go along with the plan because he wants to help sony.

And then last month, he admitted that the business dealing of sony and take two didn't progress at all and he can't do anything.
After watching the E3 2011 part with Ken Levine at the Sony conference again, what you say might be plausible. I see that he only said that it was a pet project from Irrational that they had been kicking around for a few years and that it was still very in design etc..

To be clear, I meant "spin off" as in gameplay, "impersonating" a bullet haven't much to do with SR.
Ah ok. It wasnt sure what Bioshock Vita would be either, i dont think it was confirmed to be a first person shooter. Ken Levine said it was a pet project that Irrational had been kicking around for a few years, that was set in the Bioshock universe. It could be anything really, but that is just specualtion though. But earlier i was also thinking about Assassins Creed, not just Saints Row :) But i agree that Saints Row would not be a bigger IP if the gameplay is completely different from a traditional Saints Row game.

That was more embarrassing than desperate, IMO, as with most of Nintendo's third-party showing for Wii U. YMMV, though.
Sorry, i forgot to ask earlier, but what do you think was embarassing with this?

Nirolak

Mrgrgr
Thanks everyone.

All right, I think the current listing then would be:

Wii U:
-Ubisoft
-Activision
-Disney
-Warner Bros

Vita:
-Warner Bros
-Namco Bandai
-Tecmo Koei
---smaller publishers start here---
-Atlus
-Acquire
-Milestone
-Marvelous AQL
-Falcom
-5pb
-Spike Chunsoft
-Compile Heart

By these standards they currently seem to have a similar number of major publishers, though the Vita is having notably more success among smaller publishers.

That said, the Wii U came out much more recently, so we will have to see if that holds true.

Nirolak

Mrgrgr
What about 2k sports, or pro evo?
Well MLB 2K14 didn't come to Wii U, and I don't think NBA 2K14 is announced.

As for Pro Evo 14, I'm not sure it has platforms announced even though the game is.

Edit: Yeah as far as I can tell Pro Evo 14 only has its engine unveiled.

Edit 2: They confirmed at least PlayStation 3.

A good chunk of them should be using Sony middleware.

It think it is more surprising no japanese publisher is in the Wii U list...

That stuck out to me too, though I didn't point it out directly since I know people have been hammering the point for a while now.

Is Revelations still the only upcoming Wii U third party game from a Japanese publisher (that is actually published by said publisher)?

Nirolak

Mrgrgr
As for the Western releases though does Xseed count?

Well, XSEED doesn't really make their own games as opposed to localize those from other companies, so that's why I exclude them.

Like if every publisher stopped making Wii U and Vita games, XSEED wouldn't be able to put out their own.

Truth to be told the japanese games , at least big enough to matter something, that are scheduled for PS3 aren't that many.
